He gives us opportunities to be saved. His son is our watchman. He wants our hearts. He hates pride. He is our salvation. He wants us to repent. He is fair. He is our shepherd. He takes care of us. He searches for us. He protects, provides, and gives peace to us. He sets us free. He is with us. We are His people. He is our focus. He won. He disciplines those He loves. He produces. He does all for good. He is God. He is our mediator.
12 As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness. – Ezekiel 34:12
28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, – Hebrews 12:28
Amen! If there is ever a time that the world is being shaken, it is now. How incredible that we don’t have to let it shake us, knowing that we are part of the kingdom that can not be shaken.
We’re receiving a kingdom that many have tried to shake but have found unshakable. That makes us, if we find our identity and purpose in the Kingdom, unshakable as well- though things of this earth will certainly try to shake us.
Wow, what a fulfillment of this passage our Lord Jesus is. The prince David that comes to rule, he said of the crowds that He has compassion on them because they were like sheep without a shepherd. And truly he has been a good shepherd who leads his flock beside quiet waters.
12As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness.
28Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29for our God is a consuming fire.
So amazing to know the kingdom of God endures forever and can’t be shaken. Our faith is built on solid ground. I need to remember this when I begin to feel overwhelmed by events in my own life.
I can’t get over how much my heart is being moved lately by God’s Word! Ezekiel 34 – relates to John 10- when Jesus tells us He is our good shepherd! I love the whole chapter of John 10!! Then Heb 12 has been my life scripture- (after my argument with yesterday’s verse) When i wanted to see results with my eyes- i memorized and personalized Heb 12:2-3. –I will fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of my faith – who for the JOY set before him, endured the CROSS -scorning it’s shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. I will consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men so that I may not grow weary or lose heart. –Do not grow weary dear friends!! If only we can see the JOY on the other side of our crosses- like Jesus did!! But we have the advantage! He did it alone! But HE will not leave us!! Oh praise Jesus our powerful shepherd who asks nothing more for us than to hear his voice- fix our eyes- and to follow his steps from here to our home with Him!! I’m so grateful! Thank you for bearing with my many words these past weeks!! But God is filling me up to overflowing with His amazing Word!!
Hi AnnieB, your comment today touched my heart because it shouted out with joy the way God is working in your life. Also, your experience is similar to mine. When I first read Hebrews 12 many years ago, it opened my eyes and my heart to God’s truth and His amazing plan that has been unfolding throughout history, which is truly His Story! I memorized the whole chapter and this chapter often comes into my mind as I read my Bible. I feel blessed to count you as a sister in Christ and fellow clinger to Hebrews 12. May our Heavenly Father continue to fill you to overflowing. I’ll look forward to reading you comments in the future.
How fun that we are both Anne/ie! Thank you for sharing! Now that I’m a little older i’m beginning finally to find my joy in the Word- and less in the circumstances of my life. There are still some ugly situations- but they are in His hands. He saw joy in his ugly situations. I thank Him for continuing to train me to do the same! I’ll be praying for you now, too- for a Christmas season filled with His presence!
Similar to Ezekiel 33:6, we all as believers have the responsibility to share the gospel with others so that they might be saved! We are the watchmen and we know what is coming so we must tell others.
Wow. Ezekiel 34 totally rocked me today. There are so many ties to the book of John, especially John chapter 10. And Psalm 23…he makes me lie down in green pastures.
The last verse is Ez 34 was just so comforting: 31 You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign Lord.’ ” The ESV says “you are my human sheep.” This whole section is so powerful, especially when you tie it to New Testament promises. So Awesome!!
11 No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
Love the idea of “a harvest of righteousness and peace.” Something that has always made an impression on me is people that I think of in my personal life as “spiritual giants” emanate peace. Its His peace…the peace that surpasses understanding and circumstance. And usually, those people have also endured great hardship at some point or another. This is something I need to cling to as I felt recently the Lord telling me not to be afraid of things being difficult. Not exactly the most fun message you want to receive but I’ve been thinking on it and praying about it a lot. I am often afraid of pain, difficulty, and hardship. It’s humbling, or rather even humiliating to admit at all considering the state of the world compared to the privileged life I lead in middle class America. I am working on receiving the Lord’s peace regardless of circumstance and believing He is faithful.
A pre-Thanksgiving message today in Hebrews 12:28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,
After a long book of Ezekiel and all the doom and gloom of disobedience, to read today of a great shepherd who will gather and take care of his flock…how comforting in these days of awful headlines. A calming and encouraging word to begin our day.
8 When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. 9 But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so, they will die for their sin, though you yourself will be saved.
11 Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, people of Israel?’
I am responsible to trust the Lord and speak the truth in love, and God will take care of the rest…Lord help me if I don’t!
Yes, Vs 11 says the Lord God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked… Wow. I have a lot to work on. I would take a lot of pleasure in the death of evil people– terrorists like ISIS and murderers like Planned Parenthood. I need to refocus my disdain… It’s for the Father of Lies who stands behind these unbelievers. EPH 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

God seeks the lost, heals the injured, & strengthens the weak. We are his sheep & he is our god.

Loved that too Leah! Especially as Jesus is of the line of David and comes to be out shepherd
Yes! I loved this connection of the shepherd as well! It’s such strong affirmation for me when we read these ties between the New and Old testaments!
yes Katrina, my thoughts as well♥

Amen! I agree!
Definitely a message that I will look back on when I am feeling hopeless or defeated! Such a comfort and a blessing. God loves us so much!

This is my favorite chapter of Hebrews. So much good instruction and encouragement.
On Youtube, there has been videos of trumpet sounds.. Interesting
