Without you Lord this life really has no meaning…there is no hope…help me to show your light in this dark world today…that those who dont know you may know that Jesus has made the way for us to be reconciled with the Father! Our hope is found in no one else!
I LOVE Ecclesiastes 3. My bible summarizes it by saying, “gods beautiful world is too big for us, yet its satisfactions are too small. Since we’re made for eternity, the things of time can’t
12I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; 13also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man. -ellie
They shook off their feet and were filled with joy. What trust in God’s sovereignty to bring the Word of God and that He will make to believe all whom He has appointed.
Today’s reading is a great truth for today… in Ecclesiastes we read that without God all is in vain… nothing matters… But in Acts it gives the Gospel and how we can know God and enter into a relationship with Him and into a life that has meaning
Reading Ecclesiastes, it made me think of how I feel when I do things on my own and not with God. I’ve always been discouraged by these chapters in Ecclesiastes, but now I feel encouraged to rely on the Holy Spirit for the strength and direction in everything.
In Ecclesiastes 1-2, my perspective on life is made clearer. Everything that we do on Earth, stays on Earth. Most of what we do is for our own vanity. What happens to the righteous will also happen to the evil in the end. We will all leave this temporary life. The best thing we can do is enjoy our hard work and do the most good we can. God has everything planned out, with a specific time for EVERYTHING, and it is in His will that we enjoy even MORE of the eternal life He’s given us through Jesus. There is still a time and a place for the varieties of our lives here & now. But only what we do for Him will last forever. I feel encouraged by this section & inspired to do as much good as I can while I’m here!
Ecclesiastes 1-2 makes everything seem meaningless. We will work and toil and hand our earnings/striving/gains onto those who come behind us. (Anyone else depressed by that?!). We live and die and that’s it! But Ch 3 says there is a time for (and apparently some order to) everything, and that ONLY what God does will last forever. So what did He do that lasted forever?
The Father gave us Jesus! Look in today’s reading of Acts–“But the One God raised up did not decay”…”through this man forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you.” This has eternal significance. Suddenly man’s futility has meaning and purpose in the One man who conquered sin and death–something we could not do for ourselves!
Simply put, our lives have no eternal significance without Christ. That brings a whole new purpose to our otherwise meaningless toiling under the sun. Oh to live with eternal purpose–how lives would be changed around us.
Ecc 3:4 really stood out to me. I just recently lost my 3 month old baby boy back in march of this year and God is right there is a time to mourn and a time to dance and rejoice, and I need to remember that he isn’t hurting anymore and he isn’t suffering. He is in the best place he could ever be and that’s with his Heavenly Father. God is taking care of my sweet boy and he’s looking down on me. I can’t wait to be reunited with my sweet boy again.
Taneesha I’m so glad you are part of this group – and that God’s Word is comforting you today. Thank you for sharing your heart with us. I pray the Lord continues to fill you with more of Him and His comfort each day- through His body the church and His living Word.
Wow, I can’t believe I have never really read Ecclesiastes thoroughly until now. God really met me where I was at today. I have been needing this message about control in my life- I have very little control! Most things are in God’s hands.
The passage that stood out to me today:38 ‘Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and through Him everyone who believes is freed from all things, from which you could not be freed through the Law of Moses.
Thank you Jesus for coming so we could be freed from all things…pain, loneliness, addiction, afflictions, oppression and hell. You are our redeemer and our father.
Ecclesiastes 3- wow I absolutely love those verses. How beautifully true& what a sweet, moving reminder that there is a season for everything.
Today’s passages are so beautiful& remind me how deep my love for God truly is!
48 When the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and honored the word of the Lord; and all who were appointed for eternal life believed. We are all called to be witnesses for God that was Jesus’s command we are not to know who has been appointed or not we must simply sow the seed the rest is in Gods hand as many will hear the gospel but God may not have appointed them to eternal life. It fascinates me that God has fore chosen hand picked the ones for eternal life. We must simply obey His word and be witnesses the rest is up to God.
Ecc 3:11 absolute favorite verse! :) it always remind me of how God is in control of my future, everything is in His hands… :) and it’s going to be beautiful! :) we don’t even comprehend the plans God has for us. it gives me peace… He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
I’ve always loved it as well! It’s so confronting to witness those moments in your life! It’s humbling for us to really acknowledge He is in control & it is made beautiful in His time!
Reading over and over again the wise teacher proclaiming that to enjoy your work comes from God and is what he has given man to do brings to mind the words of Paul in 1 Thessalonians 4:11. That has always urged me to learn to be content with my work, working dilligently, and being satisfied by it, as it is what God has given for me to do with my time.
I love my work but remain discontent with much of the rest of my life. This was a great reminder of how rare a gift it is to have meaningful, fulfilling, God-ordained work. Solomon thought it was the best thing a person could possibly have! I am counting that awesome blessing today.
“All are going to the same place; all come from dust and all return to dust. Who knows if the spirit of people rises upward and the spirit of animals goes downward to the earth?”
My study Bible comments, “These verses are disturbing to the Christian reader because they appear to deny hope of an eternal life. What they actually deny is that people within themselves have the power to transcend death. [Contrast with the beliefs of ancient – then contemporary – Egypt. …] The Teacher of Ecclesiastes wanted people to take death seriously so they would use well the time they had under the sun. It does not deny that God can raise us from the dead.”
Great post! I found it interesting to read this in Ecclesiastes and then to move on to Paul and Barnabas telling people about eternal life..what a beautiful full circle moment for us to read this morning!
Ecclesiastes 3:1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven- everything that was meant to happen is God’s will and in His time all things with a season will come and pass for His reasons.
“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11
One of my favorite verses… I have held on to this verse as I wait for God to grant us a baby in the last 5years… The waiting season has been a beautiful journey of knowing Him more and experiencing His unfathomable love… i know that one day as I hold our baby in my arms, I will be able to look back in this season of waiting and say… indeed, He has made everything beautiful in its time…. ☺
Your post is an encouragement to me, as my husband and I are also waiting for God to bless us with a baby. I have been struggling with this recently and this verse is an encouragement to know that this season of waiting is beautiful. Prayers for your family!
Praying right now for your baby! Your words are encouraging me even a year later, as my family waits for a forever house of our own — circumstances would tell me I’m crazy to believe we’ll ever live anywhere bigger than a 2 bedroom apartment, but I believe God’s word that He makes everything beautiful in His time, including our living arrangement! & if not, He is still God! And He is good. Thank you for sharing your heart!

Just found this verse interesting. God chooses us.
i am chewing on Ecclesiastes 2 this morning; my journal is full of notes!
