What We Believe

Thank you for taking time to read more about the heart and hope of SheReadsTruth.

For us, it is all about women being in the Word and being changed by the Word. As such, it is important to us that we take God’s word seriously.

We believe the Word of God is 100% true and relevant. We don’t blindly accept doctrines of men, but we trust in the Word like we trust in the Father, even when truth isn’t easy to swallow. As sisters in Christ, we will always push one another to seek the truest version of what God is saying, rather than twist His words to fit our own desired meaning.

We believe the Word of God is relevant for today. Whether it’s marriage, social justice, friendship, parenting, or life in general, we don’t think the Bible is archaic and useless. We believe it to be generally more useful than the council of fallible men (or women!) and better than any other book. This is not to say those things aren’t useful, but simply that God’s word is primary for us.

We believe that we should be doers of the Word, not just hearers. As such, we seek as a community to respond to God’s great grace rather than just read verses together. We do not advocate trying to make our own selves better or sanctify ourselves, but we know that God’s love, mercy, and truth calls us and beckons to us for a response.

We believe that as strong as the law is, as hard as the tough words are to swallow, His grace and goodness and love are stronger still. Because of that, we’re not scared to write about His word. It is safe for us; it is good for us; it is His love for us written out.

Lastly, fundamentally, we believe in the tenets of the Apostle’s Creed:

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
on the third day he rose from the dead;
he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from whence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the one holy church both visible and invisible,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
