I had the same question! I looked it up and from my understanding, the reason he cursed Canaan and not Ham was because the Lord had previously put a blessing on Ham. He cursed him because instead of quickly looking away from his dad’s nakedness and covering him up, he went out and gossiped to his brothers about it. This curse is prophetic and the Lord was using it to set the path for Canaan as we see them as an active participant throughout the old testiment. Without this curse the relationship between Israel (descendants of Shem) and Canaan may have looked very different. This is why even though to US it may seem like a dramatic curse, it was the Lord using it to further the story that leads to the gospel! Also remember, if Noah was that drunk, he was probably still feeling it in the morning when he gave the curse, which could explain why it seems like an awfully dramatic response to what Ham had done. BUT this shows how God is completely sovereign AND gracious. He can use even our sin (Noah’s drunkenness) to further the gospel.

reading this really reminds me that sometimes when we see bad, we have to know that there is a reason. truly holding God in our heart and accepting everything is hard. but even in the bad, i have to know that God is working on me in my life in ways i may not know right away

My mind is stuck on Noah’s obedience. This makes me see this lockdown in a completely different perspective!

Can someone help with interpretation? Gen 9:25 when Ham sees Noah’s nakedness & tells his brothers who then lay clothes on Noah. Noah then curses Ham’s son, Canaan. Why did Noah curse Ham/Canaan anyway? Was it because Ham has informed his brothers aka talking about Noah’s nakedness to them without Noah knowing? But didn’t they help by clothing Noah? Thanks in advance!! Just a little confusing for me

I love the story of Noah and how he obeyed God’s commands. I can’t help but feel like God is calling out to our country for obedience.

We are amazed by human birth, the miracle of physical life! I just had my baby in November. But in John 3, Jesus elevates spiritual birth even more. When He changes a life and forgives sin, it’s even more mysterious and miraculous!
