Day 26

Weekly Truth

from the Lent 2016 reading plan

John 8:12

BY She Reads Truth

Text: John 8:12

We believe memorizing Scripture is one of the best ways to carry God-breathed truth, instruction, and reproof wherever we go. Let’s memorize John 8:12 together this week.

“I am the light of the world.
Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.”
-John 8:12 HCSB

Write this verse down and post it on your mirror or at your desk, in your car or on the fridge—anywhere you’ll see it often. Save the image below as your phone’s lock screen so you can read these words of truth throughout the day.

We want to be a community that is intentional about scripture memorization. Will you join us?

Such a good reminder today. I feel like lately I’ve been walking through a lot of darkness and it’s hard to keep my head up and looking upon Jesus. Praise Him for being my light in the darkness. Needing prayers this week ladies. Thank you!

    1. Sana says:

Amen! Praying the God will overwhelm you with his love and light. Amen.

      1. Lalo says:

        Thanks Sana!

As Jesus is the light I am following He encapsulates the darkness around me. When I stray to the right or left the light starts to dim. I pray this week I stay within the light of our Savior. This morning I can feel his arms around me strengthening me to do his will; filled with the light of true life. May all our lights shine bright in this darkening world.

Hey ladies, this verse reminded me of a song by Rend Collective called “My Lighthouse”. It’s a beautiful song about God leading you home safely through the darkness.

  4. Louise says:

That verse seems to be saying that you won’t walk in darkness because you will have Jesus himself there with you … You will walk THROUGH darkness but the light of the world will be there as a comfort, strength and guide. I also picture a really dark situation where you can’t see in front or behind much , just the little circle of light immediately around your feet … The more we look at the light and not the darkness then our faith and hope will rise.

    1. Claire says:

      Louise,
I love the picture you draw of walking in the darkness with a small circle of light around your feet! How beautifully humbling. We must rely completely on the Lord, trusting in Him as we take our next step.

How difficult it feels sometimes to walk in the light. Society prompts a life filled with chaos and stress, working oneself until he or she has nothing left to give. But God calls us to a life surrendered to Him. He calls us to find rest in His arms, with eyes focused on Him to do His good works. It is through She Read’s Truth, and my morning alone time with God, that I am able to surrender my daily schedule to Him. Every single day I have to be mindful about the surrender. But when I ask with integrity, He always answers. I am so grateful for this study!

    1. Caroline says:

Amen! So true, thank you for the reminder.

  6. Carla says:

Yes the world is getting darker but greater is the light in the darkness. Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
John 16:33 – I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world
I daily fight the same battle & burden. We care for our lost world because of His great love & mercy. Our only hope is to become more fixed on Jesus with the eyes of our understanding and the mind of Christ. A constant in filling of Him & death of my flesh. … Out of the overflow of His great loving kindness , mercy & grace. Oh what a saviour⚓️

This is a hard verse. Certainly there is much darkness all around. I am disheartened by the current political arena. I am disheartened by the ongoing cultural issues that persist. And yet I’ve been steadfastly praying. Praying for eyes and ears to open to really see and hear. Praying for minds to be renewed and lives transformed. Praying for Truth to be revealed and accepted. Yet, the darkness remains all around. In this physical world, I walk amidst darkness. But this verse tells me that because I follow Jesus, I will never walk IN the darkness. I have the light of life because He is the light of the world. And that gives me hope. And so today, again, I pray… May His Light shine through me that they may come to know and believe and follow also.

    1. Verna says:

      Amen!

    2. Samantha says:

I love this. Thank you for sharing your heart! Mine beats quite similar.

    3. Jennifer says:

God bless you, churchmouse, for your strong, humble faith and for your willingness to share that faith with us each day. Although I rarely comment here, I think of you as a soul sister. Most days your words beautifully express my heart, and so today I would like to encourage you to keep “Let[ting] your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). I, too, am disheartened and I, too, steadfastly pray for hearts and minds and lives to be touched by the Light of Christ. Yet, even in the midst of this present darkness, we find hope in the knowledge that even the darkness is not dark to our Almighty God (Psalm 139:12). Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! (1 Cor 15:56).

      1. Jennifer says:

OOPS! Should be 1 Cor 15:57.

      2. churchmouse says:

Thank you for your encouragement. Some days are quite difficult to press on. I’m pleased to have you as a ‘soul sister’ in the journey.

      3. Sue says:

Both of you are soul sisters to me in your honesty I find encouragement. Thank you.

  8. Sooz says:

Jesus speaks and we win every time.
