Day 7

Weekly Truth

from the Acts reading plan

Acts 2:37-41

BY She Reads Truth

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the good news of Jesus with us wherever we go.

As we read Acts together, we will memorize a portion of Peter’s sermon in Acts 2:37–41, given at Pentecost after Jesus’s ascension. The apostle calls his audience to repent, promising the gift of the Holy Spirit to all who turn to Jesus.

This week, let’s begin our memorization with the first verse. To help you memorize, write the verse on a note card, then underline the verbs and emphasize them as you say the first verse out loud.

37 When they heard this, they were pierced to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?” 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” 40 With many other words he testified and strongly urged them, saying, “Be saved from this corrupt generation!” 41 So those who accepted his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand people were added to them.

God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Saviour. When they heard this they were cut to the heart and asked what shall we do. Peter replied repent and be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receiver the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off for whom the Lord calls. With many other words he warned and pleaded with them save yourselves from this corrupt generation. Those who accepted his message were baptised and about 3000 were added to their number that day!
