Day 7

Weekly Truth

from the Deuteronomy reading plan

Deuteronomy 6:4-5

BY She Reads Truth

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry His Word with us wherever we go.

As we read Deuteronomy together, we will memorize a portion of Moses’s instructions to the nation of Israel. This passage, known as the Shema, instructs the Israelites to hear and obey the Word of the Lord. The name is taken from the first word of verse 4. In Hebrew, shema means to hear or listen.

This week, we will begin memorizing Deuteronomy 6:4–9 by learning the first two verses. To help you memorize these verses, write down the passage and underline the two action verbs. Emphasize each one as you say the passage out loud

4 Listen, Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. 5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

I just ordered a wall plaque with the Shema on it. As I’m studying Deuteronomy, I don’t want to just memorize this verse for now. I want it etched into my heart to treasure forever & the physical reminder just makes it even better.

I feel a little silly, I never thought of saving and placing scripture as my Lock Screen to help memorize verses of the Bible! What a great idea. Love this little bible study and podcast! ❤️

I’m late to the game today (but I’m often late most places… amazing that hubby and I celebrated 30 years of marriage this year… his philosophy is “If you’re on time, you’re late!) Can I just say that I love this community? I love you all, even though I don’t know you. (Reminds me of 1 Peter 1:8.) We carry each other’s requests to Him, and I’m so glad we do! (Thank you for the prayers, relating to Jon’s surgery. Today he said his incision still hurts, but he is able to move around… praise Him!) KELLY… from the grapevine… Brittany is doing much better, but I really don’t know what that means. I’ve reached out and haven’t gotten a response, so asked one of my preschool “alumni” parents, and that is what she said.
