Day 7

Weekly Truth

from the This Is the New Testament reading plan

Acts 13:27-31

BY She Reads Truth

As we look at the New Testament together, we’ll commit Acts 13:27–31 to memory. In the second half of this sermon from Acts 13, Paul speaks about the role Israel played in Christ’s death, fulfilling Old Testament prophecies about a coming Savior. This passage reminds us that, as believers, we serve the risen Lord while bearing witness to the hope of the gospel.

This week, let’s begin our memorization with just the first verse of this passage. To help you visualize what’s being described in the text, write down the verse, then underline the subject of verse 27, circle who or what they didn’t recognize, and draw a square around what happened as a result.

27 Since the residents of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize him or the sayings of the prophets that are read every Sabbath, they have fulfilled their words by condemning him. 28 Though they found no grounds for the death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him killed. 29 When they had carried out all that had been written about him, they took him down from the tree and put him in a tomb. 30 But God raised him from the dead, 31 and he appeared for many days to those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses to the people.
—Acts 13:27–31

And please pray as I need strength and the right words to be able to talk to a coworker. I accept where I went wrong. I was hurt by her words but I’m not going to go there. I’m owning up to my part and ask her to forgive me. I was not rude or mean to her at all but I should’ve stayed out of the situation she was trying to handle.
I know my boss was called and I’m hoping my boss will be understanding and I won’t get in trouble. In the great scheme of things the most important thing was the child was OK. But even afterwards when this particular coworker lashed out at me which was not OK I keep in mind she doesn’t know Jesus and it’s up to me to ask for forgiveness so that maybe someday she will know Jesus.

Thank you all for praying. My daughter made it home safe from camp. She was challenged and pushed and yes there were tears. The first challenge was a long hike to the cabin. Another hard challenge for her was a rope course. And I’m sure there were several others. BUT she did it!!
My prayer for her is that these challenges strengthen her faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus. All the challenges at this camp with God intertwined. I’m glad I wasn’t there to see her tears. It was good for her.

Thank you Kelly for praying! I haven’t heard from my Muslim friend in awhile since my last message to her…I answered a lot of her questions so I hope it wasn’t overwhelming to her…I am thinking of sending a short note saying that I’m sorry if it was a lot of info at once, and that although I don’t know her fully, I care about her and just want to share the life that I’ve found in Christ. Also that she doesn’t need to respond, and that I would still love to keep in touch about what’s going on in her life. I’ve been praying for her and that God would give me the right words to say.
Also if you could pray for me, in a week I’ll be going back down to my college town and starting my full time job on Monday! I’m excited and nervous…it’s my first full time job and I’m actually moving out of my home with my parents, which is bittersweet, but I think it is time. Praying God would challenge and grow me, and bring me closer to him and show me more of him through it all.

    1. Victoria E says:

Sarah D congratulations in your new job! I will add this to my prayer list!
