Day 7

Weekly Truth

from the This Is the Old Testament reading plan

Acts 13:17-23

BY She Reads Truth

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry His Word with us wherever we go.

As we look at the Old Testament together, we’ll commit Acts 13:17–23 to memory. In this sermon, the apostle Paul gave a short summary of Israel’s history to show how God has always loved and provided for His people. As followers of Jesus, this passage reminds us of God’s grace toward us—that this same love and provision on display in the Old Testament is our story, too.

We’ll memorize this passage one short section at a time, starting this week with verse 17.

17 The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors, made the people prosper during their stay in the land of Egypt, and led them out of it with a mighty arm. 18 And for about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness; 19 and after destroying seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land as an inheritance. 20 This all took about 450 years. After this, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet. 21 Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 22 After removing him, he raised up David as their king and testified about him, “I have found David the son of Jesse to be a man after my own heart, who will carry out all my will.”

23 From this man’s descendants, as he promised, God brought to Israel the Savior, Jesus.

Dorthy, I have another song for you! Casting Crowns sang their new song on the Klove Fan awards show (which if you didn’t watch, I highly recommend watching! Such an amazing night of good music and giving all the glory to God!!) about losing someone “Scars in Heaven!” We will have no scars in heaven, we will be free! The only scars in Heaven will belong to Him!

So very grateful for God’s faithfulness to His people. Am feeling overwhelmed right now with some major deadlines for my doctoral work and cover prayers – not simply that I would be able to get it done, but that I would grow to completely depend on God and not my own abilities. Without Him it is impossible.

Praise God for His mercy and faithfulness! Thanking God today, @Blessed Beth, for your daughter’s incredible gift of a kidney, her recovery, and continued healing. Thank you all who prayed for my daughter’s graduation party. So many could not attend, but God is good, and my church family showed up, my Bible study gals came, and some very close friends. My daughter had some anxiety the day before her party, but God provided, and she did amazingly well yesterday during her party.

Verse 22 – … ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do ALL my will.’
David’s heart was to do all of what God asked him. The good, the bad, the hard things and the easy ones. I have been reading
2 Samuel as part of the Bible in a Year that SRT has and what God told David to do wasn’t always easy or pretty by our standards. May my heart be ready to take on all that God sets before me and my response always be “yes Lord!”

@BLESSED BETH – what a gift your daughter has given! I pray her body recovers quickly. My brother received a kidney 12 years ago, and now has a wife and four boys. Your daughter won’t know this side of heaven how she has impacted the recipient’s life, but she can be assured that she has.

  7. Indiana Christina says:

Just as He chose the people of Israel, made them prosper during captivity, and led them to freedom, He does the same for us. Our God still chooses us, makes us prosper during hard times, and eventually leads us out of our trials. He loves us, provides for us, and delivers us. Thanks be to God.

  8. Blessed Beth says:

Almost two weeks ago our daughter donated a kidney , it has been a very difficult two weeks, but yesterday she face timed me showing me that she was able to raise her hands. Praise God today I will be able to raise mine in church for the first time in 15 months and give Him the glory today. God is so faithful.
