This week we will memorize a verse from Ecclesiastes about the fruit that comes from following God.
For to the person who is pleasing in his sight, he gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy.

Hi Chris! I’m so happy you’re already loving “The Rest of the Gospel” :) I’m going to finish it today and it has been such a blessing to my faith and understanding how Christ lives in and through me! I hope it blesses you in an immeasurable way! The book has really helped me to understand that I can stop working so hard to be a “good Christian” because I already have the righteousness of Christ in me. I am already made complete in my spirit, and can start living in freedom out of my true identity in Christ!

Grateful for this community! I look forward to reading everyone’s thoughtful comments each day and feel like I’m getting to “know” some of you through your posts. Since I began using this app at the beginning of Lent, I’ve been the most consistent in daily Bible reading and prayer more than any period in my life. Thank you!

I feel just the same. SRT & quarantine have helped me to make daily Bible study & prayer a strong habit. And your comments & perspectives, sisters, deepen my understanding & faith. I agree that the “good” used in this verse refers to those who believe, not works that are good. Jesus covers us with His righteousness & that is our “goodness”.

Someone on here recommended the book “The Rest of the Gospel”. I received it yesterday. Just the forward and preface and chapter 1 remind me of this verse! It is nothing we do— it’s what Christ did in us already!! And yet we seek after “stuff” and external worthiness and rewards— good book. Great SRT study. Thanks.

I went back and read from verse 24 on through the rest of 26 so I could really comprehend what the scripture was fully saying. The joy, wisdom and knowledge we God’s people and Christian is coming at a price. But I feel now all this is different since Christ died for us on the cross. I believe even the sinner Solomon was talking about has to worry any longer. Besides are we not all sinners but if we believe, have faith, follow God, Christ and the Holy Spirit and ask for forgiveness aren’t our sins forgiven. I don’t know something about this verse bothered me but oh well, God is good and I am forgiven. Have a blessed Sunday. Yesterday I mention a couple of prayers that were needed if you could continue them throughout this coming, I would appreciate it.

Indeed Churchmouse and Jenna. Strikes me that our being pleasing to God is merely our belief in Jesus work, suffering, for us on the cross and the Holy Spirit working in us. God does the work in us and through us. We get the joy and the blessings of His abundance: grace, peace, eternity, wisdom and so much love the Lord has for each one of us that we receive in Christ. Praying for those in this time of Covid living in fear to come to our Jesus and the freedom and joy He gives. Such love poured out. Jesus, lover of my soul open the eyes of our hearts, take the blinders so many hide behind and unplug the ears so that they may come to your grace and salvation and never ending unfailing love. Remove the fear and the anxiety so many are feeling in this time and show us all that you are doing. Holy Magnificent God help us to dwell in you and lift your name on high that every tongue will praise you. Amen.

What a great reminder, Churchmouse! So often I try to clean myself up, get my act together, and make myself pleasing to God in my own strength. Talk about futile! I’m thankful that God reminds me that I am covered in the robes of Christ’s righteousness. I am sealed with the Holy Spirit, promised wisdom when I ask, and guaranteed that God will bear the fruit of the Spirit in me.
I was also struck by the mention that He gives joy. Is my joy in the Lord or in the things of this world? Do others see the joy and hope of the Lord in me? How might that joy point others toward Christ?

Without faith it is impossible to please God. We must have faith in Who He is and what He has done. Don’t read over Ecclesiastes 2: 26a too quickly. Ponder it. This verse directs us to the Cross. We receive wisdom, knowledge and joy when we are pleasing to Him, when we have faith in Him. Come to the Cross and you will please Him and find abundant life. Abundant life from of all places. Life from death.
