Day 14

Weekly Truth

from the Galatians reading plan

Galatians 3:27

BY She Reads Truth

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the gospel with us wherever we go.

This week we will memorize a verse from our reading on day 11. Throughout the book of Galatians, Paul teaches that nothing gives us an advantage over others in approaching God. Believers have equal access to God because we are clothed with Christ.

For those of you who were baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ.
—Galatians 3:27

As most of you know I shared three weeks ago I drove 600 miles to drop off my son at a Christian college. A few weeks before his departure he went to his “happy place” a Summer Christian Camp. By the grace of God he’s been able to go the last five summers. This year I prayed hard the entire week that he would make a decision to be baptized. I know he loves Jesus. I thought to myself what better place than his “happy place.” God answered my prayer!! Continue to pray for my son as he now is doing life as a young adult at this college. But the good thing is he’s with his best buddy. My prayer would be that he would draw closer to Jesus. Also that financially continue to go there. Few days after classes had started he text me and said he’s so excited about his Bible class. That makes my heart happy.

Wow! How amazing that God would allow this to be the verse that the She Reads Truth team selected for September 22 – the day of my baptism. I have come to realize that there is a difference between being baptized into Christ and baptized into water. I was actually baptized into water once before, when I was 13, but at that time I wasn’t truly saved and had no relationship with Jesus Christ. I had not yet been baptized into Him. I now know that we must be baptized into Christ – made new in Him – before we can be baptized into water.

One commentary I found described this perfectly: “It should be stressed that this is the baptism that really saves us: our immersion into Jesus. If a person isn’t baptized into Christ, he could be dunked a thousand times into water and it would make no eternal difference. If a person has been baptized into Christ, then he should follow through and do what Jesus told him to do: receive baptism as a demonstration of his commitment to Jesus (Matthew 28:19-20).”

Today, I will be sharing my testimony at church, and I am so thankful that I can explain why I’ve decided to be baptized into water a second time. I’m so thankful that three years ago, at the age of 24, I was baptized into Christ. He has saved me and clothed me in His righteousness. Thanks be to God.

He is our covering. No matter the weather, we have all we need to brave the drought and the storm.

  4. Sue says:

What someone wears gives a glimpse into their identity.

If I am clothed with Christ, may others be able to look at me and see I belong to Him.

  5. Melissa Graves says:

I am clothed in Christ. When God looks at me, He sees Christ…the beautiful Savior, not my wretched, sin drenched soul. As the hymn says, My sin, not in part, but the whole, is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more, PRAISE THE LORD, PRAISE THE LORD, oh my soul!

    1. Susann Williams says:

This is really helpful—that God is the one looking at me!

I have never been a fashionista which makes it fun to know that we are clothed and fashionable to our GOD because:

For those of you who were baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ.
    —Galatians 3:27

The Law fulfilled its purpose: to reveal our need for a Savior. Jesus fulfilled the Law. We are all children of God through faith in Him. Our faith baptizes us into Christ and He clothes us with righteousness. We are new creatures and now can walk in the newness of life in Him. We may look the same but we are not. We are being transformed into His likeness as we walk in the Spirit. Our being in Him is more precious than our doing for Him. Let us rest this Sabbath basking in His grace and truth. Let us give thanks.

    1. Cynthia Johnston says:

      Amen!
