Day 28

Weekly Truth

from the 1 & 2 Corinthians reading plan

2 Corinthians 1:5

BY She Reads Truth

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the gospel with us wherever we go.

This week’s verse emphasizes our unity with Christ in both joy and sorrow.

For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.
—2 Corinthians 1:5

Yall this verse is just what I needed today. The Lord used it to encourage and spur me on. Thank you SRT for putting these together.

Our pastor asked us this Sunday whether anyone amongst us wants to receive the anointing of Job? He also quoted Jesus saying,”in this world you will have many troubles but take heart I have overcome the world.

I like to skip over the first part of this verse. Just read over the sufferings of Christ overflowing to me quickly and get to the comforting part. But I need to slowly take into account that the sufferings of Christ will and do indeed overflow to me. I will share His sufferings. It will be hard and it will hurt. And it may very well test my faith. I don’t want to linger in suffering but I do want to linger long enough to learn the lesson and know Him more intimately in the midst of it . I know He is there. He will provide comfort. I’m assured of that. Let me appreciate, hard as it is, both the suffering and the comfort.

Anyone else have 2 different verses?

  6. Kathy says:

This was so much of what I needed to see this morning. My siblings and I are in the midst of having to make some hard decisions about our parents. It is breaking my heart to see them go down so fast. My mom has Parkinson’s and my dad is starting to show signs of some serious memory loss. Please pray for us as we have to make these decisions for them. I am thankful beyond belief that, as Kelly says, “thanking God that He is a God of overflow and that His goodness overflows!”

    1. Michelle says:

Kathy – will be praying for you and your family today

    2. Karen says:

      Kathy,
These are very difficult decisions. Praying for you and your siblings that God will show you the direction to take and how best to help your parents.

  7. Kelly Chataine says:

Overflow ~ flow over the brim of a receptacle.
Overflow ~ the excess or surplus not able to be accommodated by an available space.
Wonderful! Thanking God that He is a God of overflow and that His goodness overflows!
