Day 29

The First Sunday of Christmastide

from the Advent 2019: A Thrill of Hope reading plan

Philippians 2:9–11

BY She Reads Truth

Whether He be called the Husband of the Church, her Bridegroom, her Friend; whether He be styled the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world — the King, the Prophet, or the Priest — every title of our Master — Shiloh, Emmanuel, Wonderful, the Mighty Counsellor — every name is like the honeycomb dropping with honey, and luscious are the drops that distil from it. But if there be one name sweeter than another in the believer’s ear, it is the name of Jesus. Jesus! it is the name which moves the harps of heaven to melody. Jesus! the life of all our joys. If there be one name more charming, more precious than another, it is this name. It is woven into the very warp and woof of our psalmody. Many of our hymns begin with it, and scarcely any, that are good for anything, end without it. It is the sum total of all delights. It is the music with which the bells of heaven ring; a song in a word; an ocean for comprehension, although a drop for brevity; a matchless oratorio in two syllables; a gathering up of the hallelujahs of eternity in five letters. “Jesus, I love Thy charming name, ‘Tis music to mine ear.”
–Charles H. Spurgeon

For this reason God highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee will bow—
in heaven and on earth
and under the earth—
and every tongue will confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
–Philippians 2:9–11

SRT has been the mainstay of my morning quiet time since I did my first study with this community last Advent season. I am so grateful for all of you that share your journeys, words of encouragement and requests for prayer here.

    Jesus – what a beautiful name. ❤️

Jesus! Nothing in all of language evokes the peace, praise, power, prestige, prose or pomp like the name of Jesus! Heb 1:4 superior to all other names! Jesus, the servant, the Savior, the shepherd, the spotless Lamb. Jesus! Name above all names!

I have loved this study so much. It really hoped me to focus on the season rather than everything lose going on around me. This is the first Christmas without our youngest daughter who was murdered last August. She was a bystander in a neighbors quarrel. Some people say she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. But, she was believer and her faith was really strong especially the last 2 years and we know she was right where God needed her to be. It’s so hard for us who are left here and this study was a great distraction for me. I looked forward to it every morning. Thank you SRT! What a fabulous time our daughter is having in Heaven! Amen.
