Day 8

Seduction and Strength

from the Proverbs reading plan

Proverbs 18:10-11, Proverbs 20:29, Proverbs 24:1-12, Proverbs 25:26-28

BY She Reads Truth

The book of Proverbs is a guide for pursuing godly wisdom in our daily lives. In this four-week study, we will read a selection of topical proverbs covering different aspects of wisdom, from how to interact with our friends, families, and neighbors, to fearing God and keeping His commands. No matter the subject, these proverbs urge us to wrestle with and reflect on our own response to them. To help you better engage with the proverbs in this reading plan, we have provided you with a short introduction and reflection questions for each day.

As fallen people in a fallen world, we are susceptible to seduction, or being lured by false promises. But as followers of Jesus who have the Holy Spirit, the wisdom of God is available to us in every situation we face. Both of these truths call us to pay attention to the wisdom found in Scripture. These proverbs call us to examine how seduction and strength work in our lives.

Reflection Questions:

What is the most powerfully seductive voice speaking into your life right now? What is it promising that makes you want to follow?

What is the God-given longing of your heart that lies beneath the desire you just named?

What do you think Proverbs 25:28 means? Take time to remember and reflect on when this proverb has been true in your own life?

fallen deeply in love with and have become extremely invested in. However, I am afraid that little by little he is becoming more and more an idol and taking the place in my life that is meant only for God and though I feel that this guy is the one that God has for me because of the position he has been taking in my life I am afraid that I am being deceived either by myself or Satan and just feeling and believing what I want to. Please pray for me. Thank you and my our wonderful unconditionally loving God bless you and lead, guide, and equip you in your struggle.

Thank you Taylor for sharing this. It really helps me because I feel exactly the way you described yourself to feel and have done the same things in my own life. Currently, I am seeing someone who I have (in my best and most honest assessment of my heart, mind, and soul)

  5. Monica Sheppard says:

Remember that in order to have self-control you must discipline order to have discipline you must first have desire.

  6. Laura Smail says:

The lie is that I should only associate with people who think like me. It’s a false comfort that promises acceptance and affirmation. The truth is that God has already accepted me AND He has accepted those who don’t think like me. Jesus associated with everyone, including sinners, misfits and social outcasts. The tendency to want to only be around people who validate my opinions is dangerous because: (1) sometimes I need to be corrected and (2) I can’t learn to love people who are different from me if I avoid them.

  7. Tera Vannoy says:

I get deceived by the idea that I have to choose a side. Am I left or right? Ultimately, God should be my direction. He is the third option, thee option. I shouldn’t get bogged down by the limited scope of national ideologies.

    Becca!

Thank you for sharing this. I am curious how you felt or how you knew it was time to move on from your job? I am SO wanting to hear His voice and direction, but come up empty.

I know I’m not the best at sitting and listening, so that’s probably part of it. Haha.
