Jesus Heals and Performs Miracles

Luke 8:26-56, Matthew 9:27-38

I’ve never witnessed a miracle like the ones described in these Scriptures. I have not seen someone lay hands on a blind person, and with a word, restore their sight. I have not witnessed someone on their deathbed rise as if they had just taken a nap.
Yet, I have witnessed different kinds of miracles. I’ve witnessed the miracle of people turning from darkness to light. I’ve seen friends heal from wounded identities only through the power of Jesus’s love. Even my own experience of being saved by Jesus is a miracle. Jesus is in the business of healing people physically and spiritually. Just because I have never seen lame people walk again doesn’t mean I don’t believe Jesus can do it. I know He can. Yet, for many of us, we are waiting for our miracle, and that can cause us to doubt if Jesus is the true healer.
For much of my life, I have wrestled with anxiety. When I became a mom, the anxiety got worse. There was a season where I was afflicted with panic attacks regularly. At one point, I even called 911 to come and help me because I thought I was having heart failure. Since that time, Jesus has done a lot of healing in this area, but there is still this voice in the back of my head that reminds me it could rise up again unexpectedly. What will trigger the next attack?
Some of us have family and friends we have prayed for hoping they will receive the gift of Jesus into their lives. We are still praying for them…
There are others of us who have wrestled with our love life, our health, our job status, or our fertility. We are still waiting for these unmet desires to be fulfilled…
The bleeding woman could not marry, could not take part in the community, and could not afford any more treatments to help her. She was desperate for relief! And with one touch of Jesus’s robe, she was cured. But was the actual touching of Jesus’s robe some sort of magic? No. “‘Daughter,’ [Jesus] said to her, ‘your faith has saved you. Go in peace’” (Luke 8:48).
A synagogue leader asked Jesus to heal his daughter and Jesus told him to do what? To “only believe” (v.50).
Jesus saw two blind men and asked them, “Do you believe I can do this?” They answered, “Yes, Lord,” and Jesus healed them by their faith (Matthew 9:28–30).
Today, it is by faith that we are saved. I don’t have a fluffy, cute answer for the miracles we are waiting on, but I have faith in Jesus as my rescuer. For He saved me from the gravest thing, my sin. And He restored my soul. This is a miracle. Some may see our condition as a curse, but may we see it as an opportunity to look to the cross, have faith, and “go in peace” (Luke 8:48).

My mother-in-law is in the hospital and we’ve been praying for her salvation for years and years. I have Isaiah 59 written next to her name on my prayer list, “Indeed, the Lord’s arm is not too weak to save, and his ear is not too deaf to hear,” but todays reading was such a good reminder of that too. I do have faith He can save her. But oftentimes I look at her life and think she’s too far gone. But then I’m reminded that if not for God saving me, that would be my life too! Today was a good gut check of “Do I really believe that?” Like, do I fully have faith that with everything she’s said and done and the people she’s hurt and the life she’s wasted, that she can truly be saved. My faith might actually be the size of a mustard seed some days, but I do believe. And when I don’t believe, I pray, “Lord help my unbelief!”

Something that stood out to me today in the Matthew 9 miracles is Jesus asked them to keep silent. I thought the whole point was to “go and tell”. I’ve never noticed it before and it made me dig further. What I found was interesting and makes sense. Jesus was already dealing with large crowds and having trouble moving around so these miracles were just drawing more people making it harder. Also it’s right there in Matthew 9:34 – it gave the Pharisees the scapegoat- He is ruler of Demons. Jesus knew they would use it against him and they did! Always good to dig deeper with your questions! Prayers for a peaceful weekend to you ladies!!

Excellently written devo today. Lots to remember regarding which miracle in our lives is the most important of all (removing our sin) while we wait in belief for the healing of others ❤️

Luke 8:47… in a crowd full of people and chaos, in the midst of commotion and healing, fully surrounded, each person deep in their own troubles and seeking Jesus, it says that she was not hidden. It AMAZES (and confuses) me that with literally every single thing that was going on, scripture says she was not hidden-she was fully seen, known, and called out by Jesus. In the midst of her suffering, pain, isolation, frustration, and desperation, He stops. Not because He has to but because He wants her to know that her miracle was no accident, that her healing was not a whim, and that in the midst of her being a part of a chaotic crowd and even with her “trembling”, He sees her. CRAZY! AND ON TOP OF THAT! He is not upset when He is met with deri

Also, after the people told, He was unable to stay in some of the towns due to enormous crowds.

@victoria Redig – I looked up your question and found this…From Gotquestions.org:
“Jesus did not want people focusing on the miracles He performed, but rather the message He proclaimed and the death He was going to die. The same is true today. God would rather that we be focused on the healing miracle of salvation through Jesus Christ instead of focusing on other healings and/or miracles.”
I had heard this before, but wanted to be certain. I hope it helps. I have asked the same question years ago and thought this was a great answer.
