Day 32

Grace Day

from the Lent 2016 reading plan

John 17:6-19

BY She Reads Truth

Text: John 17:6-19

Take time today to rest in the knowledge of God’s boundless grace and reflect on Scripture below.

I have revealed Your name
to the men You gave Me from the world.
They were Yours, You gave them to Me,
and they have kept Your word.
Now they know that all things
You have given to Me are from You,
because the words that You gave Me,
I have given them.
They have received them
and have known for certain
that I came from You.
They have believed that You sent Me.
I pray for them.
I am not praying for the world
but for those You have given Me,
because they are Yours.
Everything I have is Yours,
and everything You have is Mine,
and I have been glorified in them.
I am no longer in the world,
but they are in the world,
and I am coming to You.
Holy Father,
protect them by Your name
that You have given Me,
so that they may be one as We are one.
While I was with them,
I was protecting them by Your name
that You have given Me.
I guarded them and not one of them is lost,
except the son of destruction,
so that the Scripture may be fulfilled.
Now I am coming to You,
and I speak these things in the world
so that they may have My joy completed in them.
I have given them Your word.
The world hated them
because they are not of the world,
as I am not of the world.
I am not praying
that You take them out of the world
but that You protect them from the evil one.
They are not of the world,
as I am not of the world.
Sanctify them by the truth;
Your word is truth.
As You sent Me into the world,
I also have sent them into the world.
I sanctify Myself for them,
so they also may be sanctified by the truth.

I just wrote this out in my journal replacing them with my name or saying her and she and wow. so powerful to imagine Jesus standing in front of the Father God saying this prayer over me, over all of us! what love is this? that the Saviour King prays for us before we were even created. wow just wow.

I lost it about the point I realized He was praying for me! Long before I was realized on this earth. It once again proves His yoke is light. He has done so much heavy lifting for us and walked along side us as we learned how to become followers of Christ. I was also struck by the fact that He kept all those entrusted in His care safe and none perished but for one. No one died and stayed dead on Christ watch but Judas; so not only their physical beings were held in His hands their spiritual lives were reconciled to God the Father. How amazing is our Father and our Saviour!

I too was captivated by Jesus’ prayer this morning and how He prayed for little me! My prayer is that I would be worthy of and faithful to His calling on my life. May I be faithful to the truth He puts on my tongue and speaking and living it to my boys, my husband and everyone else around me. May i also live as one with my husband, with my sisters in Christ and with other believers as a whole. May i be faithful to His truth and calling. Thanks ladies for sharing your hearts this morning, i always glean from reading your thoughts.

The first time I read the verses, I read them as a prayer for His disciples and thought wow Jesus prayed for them. It wasn’t until after I read the comments that I realized He was praying for me too. and it hit home and hit home hard. I am left in awe of my beautiful Savior. He prayed for me, little undeserving me. Oh how much more I love my Jesus.

There is something about reading the Scriptures out loud with much varying emotion and tone. Whisper in places. Pause. Louder in other places. It makes them fresh, alive, personal. Jesus ‘ prayer here is a wonder. Just heartfelt conservation and statements of fact. How unlike mine. I praise… briefly. I list my requests. Long. Sometimes I beg. I plead. When I should take a breath, I fill the space with an “Oh heavenly Father” or “Lord God” or “Father God.” Almost as if I pause in silence, He’ll turn and walk away. I have to keep His attention! And I say a quick thank you and an amen as my hanging up. Ugh.. So… Today I will focus on John 17 and ask the Lord to teach me to pray like this. To have that kind of relationship with Him that only needs heartfelt conversation and sentences of fact. Because we will know each other that well. Pray for me, sisters. Pray please that my prayers are a reflection of my love and trust. Thank you.

Jesus prayed that we would be sanctified in the truth. I looked up sanctify which means to separate, or set apart, to a specific purpose, to be put to an intended use. God desires to sanctify us so that we can be used to help bring about His kingdom, to glorify Him, to manifest His character. We have been given such a privilege. I have been so convicted about my complacency. My life is comfortable, but Jesus didn’t die so that I could be comfortable. Lord I pray that You will ignite a fire in my soul, a passion, for those who are still of the world, for those who do not know Him. I pray for all of Your children who have become comfortable and complacent. Drive us to our knees. Help us to pray like Miss Clara in “War Room” – “Raise up a generation that will take light into this world; that will not compromise under pressure; that will not cower Lord, when others fall away. Raise them up, Lord, that they will proclaim that there is salvation in the name of Jesus Christ. Raise up warriors, Lord, who will fight on their knees, who will worship with their whole hearts. Lord, call us to battle. That we will proclaim You, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.”
    Have a blessed weekend, sisters.
