JULIA B: I’m not in your state but I homeschooled my four children over a period of 20+ years. ( There is a 12-year difference in age between the first and the last!) I feel your confusion and exhaustion. Yes, you are dealing with a lot!
First, I commend your efforts to guide your children more closely to God’s truth. It’s a massive responsibility that comes with resistance from several fronts, BUT it’s do-able with our Lord’s help AND the help of like-minded friends and organizations.
You do not sound connected to a network of other homeschoolers, which can make it oh-so-easy to become overwhelmed. This is similar to our need to be connected to other believers in a church.
I strongly encourage you to call your state’s homeschool organization which has undoubtedly seen, heard, and dealt with it all before. It can offer you trustworthy legal and financial advice.
You mentioned a Dept. of Ed. online charter school. When we rely on state or federal assistance, we open our homeschool to government regulation since they have a reasonable right to demand how those funds are spent. Personally, we decided our family would rely on God and His ways, and He really did carry us through all the rough spots. No regrets!

Hi ladies. I’ve been reading along for several months but only posted once. My name is Julia and I’m a homeschooling mom of two in Oregon. I have loved praying for you all, especially those Victoria,as I also battled infertility for 4 years and have two babies in heaven. Now I ask for prayers for myself. I feel stuck and overwhelmed. We live in Oregon and the govt overreach and mandates here are getting ridiculous. My daughters and I both have many medical issues (autoimmune, cancer, allergies) that prevent us from getting the vac, however Oregon is leading the charge against the unvaccinated and taking away our options. My husband’s is a federal employee and this must get it, and soon, or lose his job. We feel stuck. And we just got notice that the Oregon dept of education is now coming after offer chosen way too educate, using an online charter school to help financially supplement our homeschool. Not just those stressors but my oldest daughter is ten and we are struggling through very serious behavioral changes. She’s become rude, defiant and disrespectful and I don’t know what else to try. I’m exhausted. I get migraines often and lately feel like they are preventing me from thinking clearly enough to asses our options. We’d love to move to another state but we live on my husband’s family’s 5 generation farm and my hubby works on the farm in all his off hours. His brother, parents and my parents live here so not so easy to move. Plus of home is farm property so we have no equity apart from selling our section of the farm which isn’t possible at this time. I am overwhelmed and feel like my body is letting me down. When I need to be able to think clearly, I cannot. I feel muddled and like God is giving me no direction or I am not clear graded enough to hear him. Please pray for us. My daughter is Annie. She was born prematurely and has dealt with ADHD and other results of her prematurity but this behavior has really been a huge burden on our family. Thank you, and I will continue to pray for you sisters. Reading these comments is one of the favorite parts of my day. Love to you all, and happy fall! My favorite season.

We are His people! I just want to say thank you to all of you have been praying for me regarding my ankle. Splint was removed yesterday, x-ray showed it is healing well and properly, and the best part… I was released to go back to work with modifications. And God is so good that my workplace allowed and is going to accommodate these modifications. I was placed in a cast and will remain in a cast for another month. At my next appointment in 30 days I’m hoping for a boot. I got a pink cast. The kindergartners especially the girls are going to love it! I can’t wait to see them. I missed work especially the children. I miss these little munchkins.

Whitney, as a single mom myself. I hear you. I am praying for you. With Jesus on your side, and your sisters here at SRT, you’ve got this. I know it’s hard. I have those feelings myself. I just want to let you know, you are not alone.
