    Thank you, let us be gracious merciful. From the linguistic point, “gratia” meaning “merciful, benevolent” is known from late 14c. And from gwere- meaning gratitude. We should be grateful for the time we may live and love.

    Irina – from Strong’s Greek concordance: “epieikés: seemly, equitable, yielding.” It’s not a matter of avoiding words, as modern translations strive to use words with a modern meaning so that anyone reading the Scripture in their language can better understand the intent of the original language.
    It is also possible to be moderate without being gracious. Taking the verse in context, the Scripture seems to speak to both moderation (verse 11) and graciousness (verse 8).
