BY She Reads Truth
Use this day to pray, rest, and reflect on this week’s reading, giving thanks for the grace that is ours in Christ.
Because of the LORD’s faithful love
we do not perish,
for his mercies never end.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness!
I say, “The LORD is my portion,
therefore I will put my hope in him.”
—Lamentations 3:22-24

I love this passage in Lamentations! When I read it a few days ago I actually read a little further, down to verse 26. I call verses 24-26 the “waiting verses.” I’ve been in a season of waiting for a while and the position I’m waiting from has recently changed. Those of you who read my comment on Monday’s devotional know that I left a serious relationship earlier this year. Thank you so much to those who replied and prayed for me! That meant more than you know. I was able to explain to my ex why I thought it was unwise for us to get back together right now. I described the kind of husband I want (someone who can lead me in holiness because of his own relationship with Christ) and my ex said he doesn’t think he can ever be that kind of person.
It’s so hard because God has made some big promises to me about this man – however, none of the promises have to do with marrying him and I am very aware of that. But there are so many obstacles that are hindering his spiritual growth (such as his battle with depression) and God has promised to set him free from those things and bring him to a place of freedom. The kind of freedom that is only found in a relationship with Christ.
So I will continue to wait for the Lord to do what He has promised. I will also wait for a godly man who can lead me in our joint pursuit of holiness. I have no idea if the two waits are related because as I said, God never promised me I would marry this man, even though I would love to one day if he commits wholeheartedly to the Lord.
Verse 26 says, “it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” For the first time ever I really noticed the phrase “wait quietly.” I found two devotionals on that verse and wrote about them in my journal a few days ago. One of them says, “To wait quietly is the opposite of trying to make things happen. … To wait quietly is to trust that even when things are as bad as they could be, God is faithful and His mercies are new every morning.”
The other devotional pointed out that we often look at times of quiet waiting as a punishment, but quiet waiting is actually God’s gift to us. In those times we are forced to depend on Him and seek Him even more than we already do, which ultimately draws us closer to Him.
Anyway, I just wanted to share that and give an update to follow up my comment on Monday. :) Hopefully this helps someone who is also in a season of waiting. May we wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

Sister your trust is a witness to countless folks you will never know. I can attest that in stages of “waiting quietly,” God is actively building something beyond our imaginations! Praying you will see the fruit of your faithfulness in this lifetime.

God’s mercies are new every morning. We don’t have to use what’s left from yesterday. It’s like having a gift card that never runs out!
Prayer request: We leave on our mission trip this morning. There’s 29 of us going to Ripley, TN to work on homes – 8 adults and 21 high schoolers. Please pray that we will be the hands and feet of Jesus this week. That when people look at us they will see Jesus and when they hear us speak they will hear Jesus. Less of me and more of Him!
Blessings, sweet sisters!-
Prayers for your group and the mission Kathy.

Ah this verse in the book of Lamentations. Even in a season of lamenting, we who believe have hope. We have His mercies, new every day. Great is His faithfulness!

Only sure and safe location for hope is in Jesus Christ our Lord!
