“Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead. Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish” (Joel 2:13). God isn’t interested in an outward show of sorrow for sin. He doesn’t care about drama. He desires a change of heart! Repentance because we are grieved by our distance from God. A cry for His mercy because we are completely incapable of changing ourselves. He will forgive. He will love. He will restore. Oh Merciful God, your love is overwhelming. Thank you for drawing me to Yourself.

I love that God is constantly in the business of redeeming what may have been lost or broken or damaged. “I will restore to you the years
that the swarming locust has eaten,
the hopper, the destroyer, and the cutter,
my great army, which I sent among you.” Joel 2:25 -
Joel 2:13-14 was powerful, we don’t change our our clothes and become right with God, there’s so much more to it! We have to trust him completely with our hearts and minds

We can’t change outwardly only to become right with the father. It’s an inside change first.

Joel 1:14 makes me think of what I should be doing during this difficult time in the world. Sometimes all we can do is mourn, lament, fast, and pray for God to touch people’s hearts.

20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. If only the people who are killing in our world today, even right in our own neighborhoods, could know this truth, how can we as SRT Sisters, spread this good news? It weighs heavy on my heart…

I find it so interesting, how 1 John ends. “21 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.” It almost feel abrupt..no benediction or close-out words. But that’s what made me really pay attention. I think our idols are one of those silent threats that can draw us away from Christ–so subtly we don’t even notice it, like Paul says in Hebrews 2:1 “we must pay close attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it.” I think John was being very intentional to warn is of things that can distract us from the love of Christ..and it made me pause and ask myself what my idols are? Just stuff to ponder.. :-)

Yes…I Jn 5:3 “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.” Commandment 1 Have no other gods before Me
Commandment 2 Do not make/worship an idol
