Habakkuk is such a cool book. It is one about living by faith when God seems absent. It is about walking with God and waiting on God when things don’t make sense.
“I am raising up the Babylonians, that ruthless and impetuous people..”
When has God raised up the “Babylonians” in your life? How did you react? Habakkuk reacted in remembering Gods character (chapter 1 verses 12-13) and waiting upon the Lord (chapter 2 verse 1)
And he praying (chapters 1 and 3)
“Gods first interest is not in our prosperity or political power. He prefers to destroy us (in hope of eventually accomplishing his greatest purpose) rather than to see us prosper in political security while chasing after our own whims…Gods first concern for us is faithfulness, living by his word and true worship…he has a much more lasting plan” James bruckner
“Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him” Job 13:15

2 Peter 1:5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.

10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble,

  7. Leah S says:

10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I never really noticed the word “confirm” in this verse. We get to receive what God has already given us…to confirm and act on what he has called us to do and be. There’s no question of “if we a good enough” or what we need to do to earn our calling. He already made that clear…but we do need to receive it and act on it as our inheritance.

    1. Ashley Maina says:

      Amen! Great reminder.

  8. Suzanne says:

Thank you Lord, that your Word is YOUR WORD! That men didn’t make it up out of their own imaginations, but that it is from your heart and mind.
