Reading from Sarah Bessey’s Jesus Feminist really shed some light on Paul’s meaning in 1 Timothy 2. “… Adam was there first, so he had something to teach Eve… She wasn’t inferior; she was ignorant… Paul wanted women of the church to remember that it’s not an issue of inferiority but an issue of learning with a quiet spirit in humility… Paul commends women to prophesy, honored them to ministry, and counted them among his friends.”
It’s helpful to read scripture in the context of the author’s culture and ministry, of which I am not an expert, but enjoy learning about. I highly recommend this book, which helps to show the depths of Jesus’ love for women!

A good prophetic warning to each of us living in this age! -
15And after I have plucked them up, I will again have compassion on them, and I will bring them again each to his heritage and each to his land. 16And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, ‘As the Lord lives,’ even as they taught my people to swear by Baal, then they shall be built up in the midst of my people.”

We place our hope in a God who is control over all things. The world may see that as foolish, but fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom. On another note, I see comments here that refuse to bow to scripture and choose to view the Word of God as flawed and wrong because of a desire to cling to authority and power. Jesus Christ humbled himself not to consider equality with God a thing to be grasped even as He was and is God. May we not be so foolish to condemn the authority of Scripture in order to keep our sense of importance and power.
