It struck me in acts when it says, “most people did not even know why they were there” rioting. It’s so true today across many situations- a lot of people don’t know why they are where they are or why they’re doing what they’re doing. As Christians, we can help direct these lives toward God by telling them what life in god looks like and most importantly by showing them!

I found that interesting too! Also I found it interesting that the idol maker emphasized the fact that it was good business to make idols—his profit was the priority

Hello chelsearaeh, I found it hard to follow and I’m not new (although have much to learn) so you’re not alone! So glad to hear you’re saved and it’s great you’re reading the bible. (Can I recommend a study bible, or even a bible commentary which would be a great purchase as it will explain context and links to assist in your reading? There is a lot of historical content that a study bible or commentary can do a lot of the thinking for you, making it easier to figure out the main message, although keep in mind they are obviously written by humans and so are potentially prone to error etc unlike God’s actual word!)
The context of Isaiah is a prophet explaining how God’s people should be living. Within the context of Isaiah at the time, Israel was quite powerful, and neighbours Assyria were also powerful and would end up taking over Israel. This probably helps: http://www.christistheway.com/2003/a03a05ba.html
When reading the OT it’s important to realise (and I didn’t for years- I thought the OT had nothing to do with Jesus) that the OT has two stories running at once- what’s happening in the context and the bigger picture pointing towards the New Testament in Jesus. There’s a beautiful snapshot of this in Ch 9: Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV
[6] For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [7] Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.This is Fulfilled in Jesus.

I’m afraid this whole reading was confusing to me. I didn’t understand the basics of it to derive any deeper understanding or message from God. (I’m very new to reading the bible and was just recently saved ❤️) can anyone help me understand? Thank you ☺️ and God bless

I looked up the Matthew Henry commentary on the Acts 19 passage and there were a couple of really great points that helped me see the application for this:
“The whole city was full of confusion, the common and natural effect of zeal for false religion… It is a very good rule at all times, both in private and public affairs, not to be hasty and rash in our motions, but to take time to consider; and always to keep our passions under check. We ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly; to do nothing in haste, of which we may repent at leisure. The regular methods of the law ought always to stop popular tumults, and in well-governed nations will do so… And see how the overruling providence of God keeps the public peace, by an unaccountable power over the spirits of men. Thus the world is kept in some order, and men are held back from devouring each other. We can scarcely look around but we see men act like Demetrius and the workmen… And let us not be dismayed; the Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters; he can still the rage of the people.”
How important is this story in this crazy climate of our country right now! Where people make crazy claims and assumptions over social media and cause a stir, it’s up to us to keep our cool and trust that the Lord quiets the storms of people as well. It encouraged me greatly to be steadfast and to trust him. If all of the Church would be steadfast in this turmoil, our influence toward peace would be great.

This verse hit me today like a ton of bricks:
Isaiah 9:2 The people who walked in darkness
have seen a great light;

on them has light shone.I know of so many people around me going through tough trials, we’ve been stressing here and there over things associated with the move (cross-country = no big deal, right?) but I’ve literally said “in every moment of darkness, there will be light” and feel God is constantly reminding me that and reminding me to tell my peeps that! It’s so very true!

Isaiah 10 v 20 “In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean on him who struck them, but will lean on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.”
it seems to me that maybe this might happen in our lives, that God put us through trials to show us that we should be leaning on him and not on worldly things that are doing us harm
