13But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

  3. Cc Crews says:

17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. I really liked this part of the Ephesians verse. It just reminded me that Jesus is here for those of us who try to dwell closely to his spirit and those of us who maybe are not seeking God. He came for both types of people and we both can grow closer to the lord .

I have a hard time with the violence too. Like the passage a couple of days ago about the bears tearing up those taunting teens. I wonder what it was like in the OT as far as believing in God. All of my hope I have because of what Jesus did. But the OT people didn’t have Jesus yet. Seems like it would take a lot more faith for the OT people.

  5. SarahMay says:

Jehu did a lot out of his self-proclaimed zeal for the Lord, but he still worshiped the golden calves that had been made. What am I zealous about, and what sin am I overlooking in my own life, rationalizing perhaps that it’s “not as big” as the other? For it is by GRACE I am saved, through faith, this is not of my own works, that I could boast…

Regarding the 2 Kings reading today, it was difficult to read through because of the violence and so many different people to keep track of. I wonder how many kings that start with “J”! I just realized when it says King of Samaria that means king of Israel (the Northern Kingdom, as opposed to Judah the southern Kingdom). It is sad that his people fought each other. So anyway I was thinking what it would be like to be a king that followed the Lord during that time. How would you try to attract people to the Lord? Some kings just killed those who didn’t. Today I want to be an example to others and attract them by my own life and light shining brightly. I also want to pray for those I have any bit if influence on. I also realized I do lead more people than I thought, in my home and church, sometimes just by showing up weekly or by doing the dishes with a good attitude.

  7. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

This went along great with the verse of the day on my bible app today: “Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the tears from your Father in heaven.” Matthew 6:1
