32They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?”

Thinking today about how exhausting the Israelites must have been to the Lord. The Lord has provided for them over and over again, calling them to be His people, and yet, the kings sin and lead the people forth in sin. The people are repeating the same sins as generations before. It helps put the magnitude of Jesus’ sacrifice into perspective. It is out of a deep love and heart for reconciliation that the Father sent His Son to be with us, to show us the Way, and to sacrifice His life so that we might also live.
Praying that we won’t walk in the sins of generations before us, but that we will hold firmly to the Lord and to His ways!

I love the playfulness of Jesus in the Scriptures. He chooses to journey with a couple of disciples headed to a little town, Emmaus. He takes it as an opportunity to not to say, “Hey look guys!! It’s ME!” but He chooses instead to teach and cause them to reflect—reframing their understanding of all that had taken place. And, then when they reached their destination, HE PRETENDS that He’s going further. Ha! He’s waiting for their invitation. And, then in the breaking of the bread, they know who He is. It all makes sense. “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows.” (Ps. 23:5) Sitting at table was an intimate setting of friendship and relationship. Within this context, Jesus opens their eyes. ❤️ Thank you, Jesus.

  7. Sarah Johnson says:

Reading what the Lord did for us never fails to put the day to day problems we have into perspective

  8. E Hong says:

30When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. 31And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. -ellie
