Psalm 53:5 “But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
where there was nothing to dread…”

There is never anything to dread or worry about, because God protects us. He loves us. We need to trust in this promise ❤️

I’ve checked a few translations & can’t find your version. Mine reads “then they will be filled with dread- dread like no other” it’s talking about God destroying evildoers and those who besiege Israel. Just wanted to check and see if maybe you were referring to a different passage?

Mine is word for word what Liz quoted! I use NIV.

      2. Ally Sharrock says:

I also use NIV and had the same translation. I looked into these verses and here is a description I found which quotes other interpretations:

It seems that it was during a time of attack or siege from an enemy (him who encamps against you). David trusted that God would put the enemy in great fear, even though their strategic position gave them no real reason to fear.

David prayed for something that God had promised an obedient Israel. God promised to send such fear (Leviticus 26:36).

David prayed for something that God had done on other occasions. There were many times when God sent fear into the hearts of Israel’s enemies. Examples include Joshua against the Canaanites (Joshua 10:10), Gideon against the Midianites (Judges 7), Jonathan and his armor-bearer against the Philistines (1 Samuel 14), and Hezekiah against the Assyrians (2 Kings 18-19).

Therefore Israel’s enemies had no reason to fear them, unless they had God in their side, in which their enemies feared the Lord.
