These passages are awesome wow! The following connection struck me:
Joshua 18:3 So Joshua said to the Israelites: “How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you?
And 1 Corinthians 4:2- now it is required that those who have been given trust must prove faithful.”In the Joshua passage, Joshua and God are basically saying, “hey, I’ve already given you these gifts, this land, these promises, now you’ve just got to get up and graciously take them.” Then the Corinthians passage says, ” when you take these things, that GOD has given you, you must return the favor by being faithful. By not being arrogant or prideful. These things are not won by you, but by me.”
Also with that faithfulness I see the desire God has for us to be bold as Christians and claim what is his. To claim goodness as His. Also to be bold with our gifts and talents, to not be afraid to use them because he will be faithful.
Ah God just really got to me in these verses!-

1 Cor 4:16 “Therefore I exhort you, be imitators of me”. Paul basically says, “follow me as I follow Christ”! How bold!

Joshua did as the Lord commanded and went in to “take” the land from the enemy. The tribes were to divide up and “possess” that land. Some of the tribes hesitated and no surprise the enemy came back to live on that land!! Looked up the words “take” (Hebrew, lakad) and “possess” (Hebrew, yarash) in our text and elsewhere. The term “to take” has reference to the initial conquest of a territory while the term “to possess” refers to the permanent occupation and control of that territory.
Made me think of Jesus! He has conquered the enemy and has the victory over sin and death. We as His children are to go in and possess what HE has already taken. Lord help us “possess” our promise land and not give any land back to the enemy that no longer belongs there!!-

–The descendants of Joseph want to possess more land, but they were unwilling to “Fight For More” for it against the Canaanites! They focused again on their own strength and got intimidated by the power of their enemies! They forgot that God already promised this land to them! and that it was Him who has been fighting for them all along!
Makes me think so much about God’s promises to me! I’ve always wanted to be more, to have more, to experience more! but my fear, laziness, and lack of discipline will hinder me from being who and where God wants me to be!
Lord help me to “Fight For More” so I can claim the territories that You have already given to me! Help me to KEEP BELIEVING in You and Your Promises! In Jesus Name. Amen.

I agree. We want so much, things that are in and of themselves good like a better prayer life or to be a better example our kids or a Christ centered marriage but they require work and we need to get up and Do It! Thanks for sharing!

Yes! This is an awesome way to look at this passage! Gosh, how I wish I wasn’t so quick to make excuses and give up sometimes. But God is definitely doing a work in me, showing me that if I want a better relationship with him and with others, I have to be willing to work at it, no matter how much of a “heart issue” it may be. Just because we need God to change doesn’t mean we get to sit back and idly wait for him to do it. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, it definitely encouraged me!

1Corintians 4:5 …He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. …
Only Our Father knows our hearts and souls. A reminder that to truly live as a Christian we cannot pass judgement on others. Judgement belongs only to God.
Being judgmental is so easy we sometimes don’t even realize when we are doing it. In speech or thought. That is what makes it harder to manage, but if our goal is to follow Jesus’ example then we have to try.
