Day 8

The Second Sunday of Advent

Isaiah 22:22

BY She Reads Truth

O Root of Jesse, standing as a sign among the peoples;
before you kings will shut their mouths,
to you the nations will make their prayer:
Come and deliver us, and delay no longer.

O Key of David and sceptre of the House of Israel;
you open and no one can shut;
you shut and no one can open:
Come and lead the prisoners from the prison house,
those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death.

“I will place the key of the house of David on his shoulder; what he opens, no one can close; what he closes, no one can open.”
—Isaiah 22:22

    What a powerful verse as it reminds us who really is in control and has dominion over our lives. Lord help me trust to believe that when you’ve closed a door, it’s for my protection and that you have a better blessing uniquely for me behind another door.

    As I read the second antiphon, I kept picturing myself in this cold dark hole. Trying to fall asleep using a rock for a pillow but shivering. Then Jesus reaches out, one hand holding a key and one hand to pull me out saying, “Come on. You can stay with Me. Let’s go home.” Jesus doesn’t just hold the key to eternal life, He holds the key to our home, where we truly belong. Thank You Jesus for rescuing us and bringing us home. Thank You that nothing can ever take us away from that.
