Day 7

Weekly Truth

from the This Is the Gospel reading plan

Romans 6:23

BY She Reads Truth

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the gospel with us wherever we go.

This week we will memorize a verse that acknowledges sin’s consequences and points is to the hope found in Jesus.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 6:23

I’ve been on a looooong journey to find the truth. I thought I knew the gospel…the good news… and I thought I accepted it wholly but I realized that my works was tied into my salvation. I don’t know if it’s how I’ve been conditioned; believing in Santa Claus as a child and knowing that I had to be good (do works) to get gifts. I don’t know if it’s the sayings “Its too good to be true” or “Nothing good comes for free”. I thought I had to do works to gain and keep my salvation. I’ve finally realised and accepted the good works I’ve done, am doing and continue to do will have NOTHING to do with my salvation. I finally accepted God’s free gift. I finally see that if I add works, then Jesus died for nothing. Even if, God forbid, I mess up badly, I can never lose my salvation. The Lord is truly good and worthy of all praise and adoration. I now wonder about the part in Matthew 7 where it says: “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 7:21 KJV. I wonder if they didn’t realised they relied not only on Christ’s sacrifice but also on their works (water baptism for example). I encourage you to check if you are truly believing and relying on Jesus ONLY for your salvation. The only ‘works’ you are to do is believe in Him. Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. John 6:29 KJV

Amen!! I acted the same before I realized that as long as you have accepted the Lord, there is NOTHING you can do to ruin His love for you or make him leave you. Hebrews 13:5 ESV says “For the Lord has said, never will I leave you; never shall forsake you.” This has been a big help in my walk with the Lord and discovering who I am in Christ.

Amen. Thank you Lord for conquering death and giving us the gift of eternal life. We do not deserve it— yet You love us unconditionally all the same.
