Day 14

Weekly Truth

from the Go Tell It on the Mountain reading plan

Psalm 136:1

BY She Reads Truth

Memorizing Scripture is one of the best ways to carry God-breathed truth, instruction, and reproof wherever we go.

Now that we’ve traveled through these early American hymns together, let’s memorize this verse about giving thanks to the Lord for His goodness.

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His faithful love endures forever.
—Psalm 136:1

Write this passage down and post it on your mirror or at your desk, in your car or on the fridge—anywhere you’ll see it often. Save the image below as your phone’s lock screen so you can read these words of truth throughout the day.

We want to be a community that is intentional about Scripture memorization. Will you join us?

I know the Lord is good!. I just know HE is. I normally can get up early and I wish I would’ve as I know our sister Churchmouse has a heavy heart today . While I don’t want to take that away from our dear sister and don’t want to sound selfish, but my heart is so heavy as well. It’s best that the SRT team does not contact me through email. But would appreciate everyone for prayers as well.

    1. churchmouse says:

Praying for you, Mari. As the day has gone on, the heaviness is lifting though the burdens appear unchanged. I’m holding on, trusting for good in what I cannot yet see. I pray the same for you.

      1. Mari says:

Oh Churchmouse and Karen!! I told myself just now “check she reads truth before bed.” So glad I did. Needed the encouragement before I go to bed. I’m in the unknown right now however God already knows and I need to trust Him. Thank you so much ladies you don’t know how much I appreciate this.

      2. Mari says:

Thank you Karen I sent you a message under a Churchmouse.

    2. Karen From Virginia says:

Praying God’s strength and hope to you too Mari. It’s been a hard week for you. The Lord is with you as you walk out each day.

      1. Mari says:

Oops it’s late and I didn’t check. Karen, I sent you a message and a Churchmouse

I just want to thank you for this wonderful devotional series. I see you have several hymn-related devotionals. I intend to give them all a try.

  3. Sarah says:

A nice way to end this work of hymns. What was your favorite? Mine was day one Blessed Assurance!

This is My Father’s World :-)

    2. Jennifer says:

My favorites were Blessed Assurance and I Surrender All. Both are in my Top 5.

      Blessed Assurance.

  4. Stacy says:

I am preparing for a busy season in my life. I know that I am doing what God has called me to do but I sometimes feel so scared. Feeling scared leads me to think about the things that I think are missing from my life. “Give thanks to the Lord”–There is so much I am thankful for each day. When I start to feel all those anxious feelings, I am trying to focus on the goodness that God surrounds me with.

  5. Karen From Virginia says:

His steadfast love endures forever. That’s where I need to focus. I’ve got stuff that’s bringing me down and causing me to question my future. I need to focus my energy on my faithful God and trust Jesus for strength to move forward and have hope. He’s always been faithful.

  6. Linda says:

    Dear churchmouse,

I will be praying for your heavy heart and that you will find again God’s goodness. You are such a steady source of encouragement and always uplifting to others in this community . Indeed I see God’s goodness through you. I pray that through doubt will come strengthened faith.

    May God blessing you richly!

    1. churchmouse says:

Thank you, Linda. Your willingness to pray on my behalf touches me.

  7. churchmouse says:

That was a heavy post by me. On such a pretty Pennsylvania morning. So… I reread today’s verse and sat on “give thanks…” Which led me to play the hymns SRT provided over this study. And it blessed me so very much – I needed to ponder the entire weekly truth and I needed to return to praise and worship. God, through SRT, provided. I give thanks!

I meant to add I understand the need to get your heart in the right place through looking at truth again and again. God be near.

    3. Megan says:

Praying for you this morning, churchmouse! ♡♡

      1. Kristin Erickson says:

I think showing that vulnerable side is so important. It encourages other sisters here to do the same. It creates a safe space. I have not been able to be so vulnerable yet, but I’m encouraged by posts like this. So thank you Churchmouse for your vulnerability and strength. God wants our heavy hearts and transparency. God bless you Xx

        1. churchmouse says:

Thank you, Kristin. Today had a rough beginning but, as so often happens, this community brought me Truth and they sustains me. Keeping my eyes on Jesus. Trusting Him. Even when…

    4. Kristin Erickson says:

I replied to Megan’s comment but meant to reply to yours Churchmouse.

      1. Trinity says:

I could read a book about this without finding such real-world apseoachrp!

    5. Mari says:

I was up early but went back to bed. Wish I hadn’t but I will pray for you now my dear SRT sister. Thank you for praying for me yesterday. Unfortunately these took an unexpected turn. Even though my heart aches too, I am praying with you and FOR YOU!

  8. churchmouse says:

    “For He is good…”
Is that not the challenge? – to believe that He is good even when all of life seems caught in a cauldron of chaos. To believe that “He is good” even when we have years of unanswered prayers scratched across our journal.
Yes His faithful love endless forever. I know that. But… Honestly, sometimes I have a “but…”
Oh Lord, a heavy heart this morning is mine. Help me to endure and to hold on to Your goodness when I’m just not feeling it.
    I know You are here.

    1. Lynne says:

Dear Churchmouse, even prayer warriors and encouragers like you can have a heavy heart and struggles, too! You ALWAYS lift up your SRT sisters, and I for one, am lifting you up today! If you haven’t ever heard the song Trust His Heart, you need to listen today. There are several artists who sing it. The song says that when you can’t trace His hand (don’t understand what He is doing or not doing in your life), you can always trust His heart ! He has our best interest at heart! Be encouraged, my sister!

      1. churchmouse says:

Thank you, Lynne for the gift of that song. It is a ‘keeper’ that I know I will play often.

    2. Teresa H says:

Oh Churchmouse, my heart is heavy for you. Although I am rather new to this amazing SRT community…I receive so much from you EVERYDAY. I look forward to reading your comments every morning. Please know, my personal opinion and feeling, you don’t always have to be the “joyful uplifting” SRT sister everyday. Your “heavy post” has inspired me. I am that heavy post! But NOT Today…because your post has pulled me up…to be positive, to call on Jesus for you, to remind us that He is our maker, He knows our path, He will guide us down the path He has paved…and in His timing. We surrendered to Him because He is OUR great, faithful, awesome and holy God. He has heard EVERY prayer..even when it is the SAME prayer daily. I know, all too well, how hard it is to go on and keep positive and praising His name when you feel He has forgotten about you. Or ignored your prayer…or just flat out..not answered and not given any sign of what He has planned for you. I waited soooo long for sooo many prayers to be answered or to hear His alternative plans. He answers when ALL is ready. He is the best multi-tasker ever. I waited TWELVE LONG years for Him to tell me that my precious Dad, who died of a sudden heart attack at 58, was in HEAVEN!! Oh was that the BEST ever! To this day I still do not know why I had to wait 12yrs. Why I had to cry myself to sleep…as an adult.. So many nights. Why I had to endure horrible thoughts of him being in hell. Those were torture. I didn’t think He was going to answer me because the answer was bad news. I know one day…I will know why I had to go through all that sorrow. Why I had to struggle to still love and praise my God. But Churchmouse, my heart is heavy for you… But please don’t hold it in. Cry out to Him! Trust in your protected us…to pray for you. You pray for so many. You give ME DAILY encouragement to not give keep fighting the good fight. God told me to write yesterday. I got pen and paper, wondering what I would write. Well I ended up writing until my hand hurt. It was like verbally vomiting on paper. Such a huge release to get it out. But now that its out…I can pray to Him about it much easier. A weight was lifted. He sees ALL. I wasn’t hiding it…but I wasn’t addressing it. Oh how I wish I had better words of encouragement! I just feel you have done such a great job of encouraging me and anyone who reads your daily posts that I want to give that back to you. I will keep you in my Prayers throughout the day and hopefully you will feel all of us praying for you! Praying God will answer your prayers…even if its a “not yet”…so you will know…He has heard everyone of them. Sending you great big hugs and lots of prayers my sister in Christ!

      1. churchmouse says:

I’m touched by your kind and thoughtful words. Opening my prayer journal this morning and seeing all those heavy heavy concerns and hearing only silence… It just about slayed me. So grateful for the reminder to be thankful for what I do see and for testimonies like yours that keep my hand holding His. Teresa, your words are as His to me today. Thank you. Thank you.
