2 Corinthians 8:9

BY She Reads Truth

Text: 2 Corinthians 8:9

Take time today to rest in the knowledge of God’s boundless grace. Pray the prayer below and reflect on the Scripture that follows.

Merciful God, who sent your messengers the prophets to preach repentance and prepare the way for our salvation: Give us grace to heed their warnings and forsake our sins, that we may greet with joy the coming of Jesus Christ our Redeemer; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
– from The Book of Common Prayer

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Though He was rich, for your sake He became poor,
so that by His poverty you might become rich.
– 2 Corinthians 8:9

I’ve never thought of this verse in the context of the Christmas story before. He became a poor baby to grow up to die for our sins. Wow!

  4. Sarah York says:

It was for the joy set before him, if I remember correctly, that Jesus thought of as he carried his cross. That must be more joy than we can fathom, and someday, all those whose names are in the Lamb’s Book of Life will experience it in full and in the presence of God.

    1. Laura says:

Amen. A glory what will make any suffering we experience as “nothing” in comparison- wow! Come, Lord Jesus!

  5. Jerie says:

Jesus, God in the flesh, poured Himself out, was separated from God as He became empty and died so that I might have eternal life with God and live in this world with the power and strength of the Holy Spirit. That is amazing grace!

  6. Kylee says:

A real riches-to-rags story — all for love, all for us. I’m so THANKFUL!
