Good morning, ladies. I probably don’t need to remind any of you that today is Monday, but I do hope that some of you have been greeted with cooler mornings! I even wore a sweater to church yesterday. It’s the little things.
When we look at Proverbs 28, there seem to be some overarching themes:
- Wealth + Poverty
- Justice + God’s Judgement
You’ll also see a three letter word in over half of the verses.
but.
These are contrasting Proverbs, showing us the stark contrasts of our choices and actions. And reminding us that there are consequences for each choice. Verse 13 explains very simply:
Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,
but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. [NIV]People who conceal their sins will not prosper,
but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. [NLT]
Simply put: honesty wins. And I believe wisdom goes right along with that. Can we memorize verse 13 together this week? Remember to leave a comment with a link to a lockscreen if you create one!
I’d like for us to take a good look at these themes today: God’s way and the world’s way are so drastically different. I want to walk in His.
1. Read through Proverbs 28.
2. Read through the chapter again, writing down all the verses that pertain to wealth and poverty. What does God tell us about worldly riches? Are you trying to please two rulers: God and money?
3. Read through chapter 28, this time writing down the verses that discuss justice. [Example, verse 24 tells us that anyone who steals from his/her father is no better than a murderer. NLT] Which one of these verses speaks to an area of your life?
These contrasting proverbs really gave me a reality check. I see too much of myself in the ugly part of these verses.
Take time to write down a prayer, asking that He would make those ugly parts beautiful. He can and He will.
