Lent 2018: See the Lord's Salvation: Day 21

Weekly Truth

Today's Text: Exodus 20:2

Scripture is God-breathed and true. When we memorize it, we carry the gospel with us wherever we go.

This week’s verse is the key verse for the book of Exodus.

“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the place of slavery.”
—Exodus 20:2

It is great to remember what God brought me out of! I know I would not be where I am today without his saving grace. I am truly grateful that he doesn’t give up on me and can break even the strongest chains. No darkness is too much for his grace and forgiveness. Praise God.

I’m struggling with my heart toward my husband. I’ve been praying for years and he is repeatedly unfaithful and has zero remorse for any of the relationships he has had and is having outside of our marriage. He is unashamed and proud of them all. I feel like a slave in covenant with him. Shame, humiliation, violence and disgrace I feel like is what clothes me being his one flesh. The world rejoices and applauds his behavior and I’m just tired of it all, but none of it is in my control. I can’t change or stop any of it. All I can do is change me and how I respond and pray, but to be honest my heart is hardening with each affair and betrayal and I struggle with doubt of Gods goodness when I’m crying out for years and nothing “seems” to change and my husband just thrives in his ways. If anyone feels led please pray for me. My heart and emotions and relationship with God. I feel like my heart is so far from Him because I’m so wounded and disappointed. I feel like nothing can move or touch my heart right now because it’s so guarded and hard. I’m full of frustration and anger and don’t know how to overcome it. I don’t want to live my life being an angry bitter woman. Exodus 3:7, my hope is that God sees my oppression and hears my cries and comes and delivers me.

I am so very sorry, Morgan! Praying for you.

    • Junia Isiminger

God is delivering you. You have to stand up for yourself and leave this destructive relationship. Your husband isn’t going to change, therefore you have to change. God will help you move on. He will deliver you.

    • Amy McNeal

I am praying for you right now Morgan. Praying for God to give you wisdom in how to handle this difficult situation, strength to make any decisions necessary and grace and peace for your heart. Praying He will soften your heart and remind you that He loves you so very much and that you are precious to Him!

    • Natalie Brewer

Morgan, I can’t imagine the daily struggles and heartache you are experiencing but our God is so faithful and good. Press into Him. Rest in Him. Continue to hope in the Lord and He will renew your strength. There is always hope to be found in Jesus, girl. Fix your eyes on Him. The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still. (Exodus 14:14) I’m praying for you through this difficult season. Let his grace be sufficient for you. <3

I am so sad to that you are suffering. Your marriage does not sound like what God intended marriage to be. Jesus is your deliverer, He is mighty to save. I pray his salvation will surprise and elate you, that your heart will be ready to receive what He has in store for you, and that you will be healed and restored. Whole and complete.

    • Mellie ChildsJordan

I am praying for you. God is good, that is not His plan for your marriage but man’s sin and God is hurting with you. When I was in a similar situation God opened my heart and eyes to actually show me how much He loved me. It was a time He drew me in and and provided emotionally and often physically for me and my kids when my now ex unfaithful and neglectful. God revealed His love through my broken marriage in allowing me to see a picture of His forgiveness for me for some things I needed. How my husband repeated behaviors and I could still forgive and love him, reminded me of some of my repeated behaviors and how I hurt God and how much more a perfect God loved and forgave me. He is near the broken-hearted. You are not alone and He loves you, pour yourself into Him and pray honestly with Him about how you feel. Listen and look for His guidance and trust in His goodness to provide redemption for you.

Morgan- as is many SRT sisters, I am praying for you. Lean into the Lord. Abide in Him. He will sustain you.

    • Anna

Praying that God’s grace, His goodness, and His deliverance would be undeniably evident in your life.

    • Brenda Zuccolotto

Morgan, my heart breaks for you. I was in a similar situation it posed a health risk for me. God never approves of divorce however He tells us to keep the marriage vows and if these are broken -it is his exception and He allows you to leave. I can never tell another woman what to do because each circumstance is different. I was counseled to at least separate. And living apart I could keep myself and my children safe. When my husband chose his lifestyle and to not work on our marriage, we ended in divorce. My heart breaks as I wanted nothing more than to stay married and keep my vow. God abundantly bless me with a godly man and restored what the locusts have eaten. I pray for your situation. God loves you hang on tight to his my hands

Ezekiel 36:26 “And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.” Praying for you, Morgan! The Lord will soften your heart! Continue to seek Him! “You will seek Me and you will find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

    • Courtney

Morgan, my Sister in Christ, know that God loves you and hates the way in which you are being treated. It is not His will that you be subjected to abuse. The Lord does not expect you to continue to live under such conditions as these. Read Luke 16:18 and seek Christian counseling, if have not already, so that you may truly discern God’s plan for your life.
I will pray for you, my sister. God bless you.

    • Courtney

Hi Morgan: It’s Courtney, again. When I wrote to you before I provided an incomplete bible verse (Luke 16:18). My apologies for the confusion. I meant to include Jesus’s words in Matthew 19:9 “…Whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.” So you see, Jesus does not expect anyone to remain in a marriage of infidelity.

    • Marianne Pena

Praying with you! God is sovereign! He will give you wisdom!!

    • Julie

Hi Morgan. I feel for you. I had to leave a marriage of 23 years because my husband was deep in his addictions and just would not budge to even consider how it was affecting our family. 4 years later since our divorce and he is still set in his ways. I wish I had left sooner but it took what it took. We separated on two different occasions before finally ending it. I spoke with my pastor at the time, sought counseling and leaned into women’s bible studies and even went to al-anon just trying to have the strength to do what I needed to do. Find a church and begin to engage with the community as you feel comfortable. I am in the process of trying to find a home church again myself as I drifted away for some time. It didn’t help that my daughter and I moved and it was too far of a commute to old church. I have been searching online looking for a good fit. I will probably have to venture out and try a few at first. But I am hopeful. I found SRT a year ago and it has helped me to regain my faith and I feel I am getting stronger through His grace and mercy. I also bought a new bible and have been reading it with daily devotions here but I also have been reading and finding comfort in the Psalms. I found some bible verses that have been anchoring me~Isaiah 41:10, Joshua 1:9 and Psalm 4:8. Of course Psalm 23 is of great comfort as well. I tell you this so you know you are not alone. God will never forsake us or leave us. He is always waiting with open arms. You reached out here and that is a start. I read in an A.W. Tozer book and Beth Moore has said this too that when we seek God it because He has already sought after us. Praying for you!

        Sweet Morgan,
My heart breaks for yours. I wish I could give you a hug. Thank you for sharing, I will pray for you. Always hold on to this truth: God is good and He cares. I believe one day you will look back and see God protecting and loving you. He will give you the strength to make needed decisions.

    • Melanie

Prayers for you today, Morgan! I’m so sorry for the hurt and burden that you’ve been carrying. God designed marriage to reflect His glory; for husbands to love their wives like Christ loves the church and for wives to submit to their husbands as the church to Christ. Your husband’s behaviour is appalling and his lack of remorse shows the condition of his heart. Your response of persistent prayer is beautiful and should continue, but I believe you need to create space between you and your husband right now. Allowing someone to experience the natural consequences of their sin is sometimes the most loving thing we can do. You are so loved and valued by your Heavenly Father. You bear His image, which makes you worthy of love. Praying for wisdom for you in this incredibly difficult time. May the Spirit tell you exactly how to act and give you the courage to follow Him. Keep us posted on how we can continue to pray for you.

    • AmyQ

Thank you for sharing, Morgan. I’m praying for you. Only God can show you what to do as you seek Him. Sometimes he calls us to protect ourselves and be safe….and sometimes he calls us to dangerous mission fields. Trust His plan is perfect. For me, reading Psalms helps as David poured out his heart to God, especially the chapters of Psalms 37, 73 and 94.

    • AmyQ

P.S. Would you pray for my friend, Elizabeth, who is going through the same situation in her marriage? Thank you,

I want to thank everyone for all their support, love, encouragement and prayers. It really has meant a lot to me and showed me that I am not alone nor forgotten. I have seen a huge change in my anger and frustrations calming down, also I feel the bitterness dissolving from my heart. I still have my moments, but my heart is softening little by litte. Today’s reading on Moses reaction to the disobedience of the Israelites making the gold calf, I can really relate to. Even Moses lost it when he saw their disobedience and how out of control they were, with making other gods and forsaking the One and Only True Living God. He even threw the precious tablets that God Himself inscribed on. I know that we are both sinners and we both have made mistakes and are not perfect, the only difference is that I now have Jesus that transforms me and he does not. I am safe and away from the toxic lifestyle he is currently in, but unfortunately it doesn’t remove the shame, humiliation, and consequences of his sin and wild living. There is still much heartache even apart as there is no true transformation in his life. I am believing that God will open his eyes to see his desperate need for Him as his Lord and Savior and forsake his lifestyle, as I know the missing piece in his life is Jesus, who is the answer. Thank you all for your prayers and support. I don’t want nor mean to dishonor my husband by sharing, but I was in a desperate need for prayer and support because I could no longer pray effectively for him nor myself. Thank you for all the love, grace, support and safe place to share. I love my husband unconditonally and no less (just very disappointed and hurt) and hopes that he chooses to turn his life fully to Christ soon and leaves the destructive paths he has taken.

don’t we all want to be desired by men? There has been lots of talk about how men abuse their position against women. But can’t we be somewhat emotionally manipulative too? May God save us from our desire to be seen and loved by men more than by him.

Yes!! One of my favorites ♥️♥️

I don’t see the screensaver. Where is it?

    • Lonna

Tap the picture, it should become bigger, then touch it and hold and an option to “save image”should come up. Select that and it will be in your photos. Then you can choose that photo to be your screensaver the way you normally do. I hope this helps.

Even slavery can become so familiar that, though set completely free, we revert back to bondage in our thought processes and in our habits. Long- standing strongholds have a tenacious grip. Praise God that He is stronger and that we can have absolute victory in Him! I’m praying today that no one will pick up the chains that have been broken. May minds be so saturated with Truth that the lies of the devil are exposed and rejected. May every step be one confidently made in the fulness of freedom bought by the blood of Jesus. Let there not be one more minute spent in anything less.
