Scripture Reading: John 8:12

A Prayer for the First Sunday After Christmas Day

Almighty God, you have poured upon us the new light of your incarnate Word: Grant that this light, enkindled in our hearts, may shine forth in our lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

  • SO happy to have done this! It’s my 3rd year and I am so filled each time :)

  • This year I read it with my Two daughters 10 and 13 years old, and my husband. We made SRT advent part or our Christmas advent tradition. We sat by our Christmas tree almost every night and enjoy the reading. I’m so grateful to SRT. We had amazing family devotionals and deep conversations and all the 4 of us got to enjoy Christmas in a deeper and sweet way. Thank you with all my heart.

  • Rebecca Leek

I am late finishing this but nonetheless it has been a joy. This was my first SRT reading plan and not my last. What a great resource! Aren’t we fortunate to have access to teachings and wisdom on The Truth? I will recommend this to all my friends. The lock screens are great because they remind me all day long of the reading. It has been wonderful to read people’s comments, too.

  • Tessa d’Autremont

I have truly enjoyed this years Advent devotional. I have felt so much peace (amidst the crazy) as we walked through God’s word daily and reflected on the birth of our Savior.

  • Latesia Brown

This Scripture is very powerful, in that it talks about how we are lost without God, But he reminds us that he is the light that will light the paths we travel. We will never be given an assignment without God first making the provisions for whatever the task may be.

  • Loved this devotional!! Thank you!!

  • Kate Campbell

  • A great study all the way through!

  • Thank you all my dear sisters (She’s) for all your faithful prayers these past few months. I know I couldn’t do life without all your faithful prayers. Please continue to pray for me and my children as we will continue to be separated from their dad. I was asked recently what’s the goal.. The goal is and it was hard for me to answer this but I know this is what God would want is hopefully restoration. For now I continue to work on healing and getting myself stronger and restored.

Praying now and will continue! I’m 16 and my parents have been divorced since l was 8. While l can’t say divore didn’t/doesn’t cause a some stress and pain in my life, l can confidently say my relationship with Christ wouldn’t be here it’s at and where’s it’s heading if things were different. In some of my most frustrating experiences under these circumstances God was able to open my eyes and it was in those moments when l truly felt the presence and the peace of the Lord. And he continues to show his faithfulness to me in these ways. continue to trust His goodness and faithful. It may seem odd but l felt called to respond to you after reading your comment. l hope and pray part of my story is able to bring some peace among you and your kids and some encouragement! 1 Corinthians 2:9-10.

Thank you so much for this study. I’ve been so blessed by this! I can’t wait to see how God works this following year! ❤

  • Amen and his His Holy name.

  • Praying for the light of God’s love to shine on me especially now. My beloved rescue dog that we have had for 14 years was put to sleep this past week. I’m praying that he is whole again and romping around in God’s beautiful gardens.

    • Terri

Praying for you with understanding. My cat that we had for 18 years died last summer.

  • Praying His light shines forth in my life! ♡

  • I have depression and anxiety. This is always refreshing to read.

    • Julie

Praying for you Mellie! I too am working through some anxiety issues. It was a tough year. I started therapy a month and a half ago. It’s not completely within my budget but I had to reach out for help. I am ready to put this year behind and look forward to new beginnings. I am starting the Matthew study tomorrow. I am ready for the New Year. One step at a time One moment at time. I am open to new blessings and will pray for new blessings for you too. I know God is with us. He is our Strength. My go to scripture is Isaiah 41:10 Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will hold on to you with My righteous right hand. Take care Mellie. I am thinking of you. hugs!!!

Thank you for sharing this Advent Devotional! I loved reading the Word and the encouragements/challenges. I pray we all lean into the living Word Himself and learn to walk in His Spirit and Word more this year! ❤️

  • I’m sad to see this study come to an end! I love the Advent studies a lot. Happy and thankful New Year to all the “she’s” out there!

  • Danielle S

Sisters, this morning as I read this I feel the darkness of my husband’s depression weighing on me. The negativity, criticism, anger, and lack of life in our home wear me down. Today I am praying desperately that the Lord will protect me from being pulled under with him, that Jesus will shine His light in and through me. Please pray with me for these things and that God will call my husband into a saving relationship with Jesus, pulling him out of his darkness and bringing him permanently into the Light. Thank you!

    • marsha

Lord, please lift up and hold Danielle’s husband under your light. Let the Holy Spirit touch him and let the light of Christ shine thru Danielle so that her husband may see it. In your name, Amen.

    • Jeanna

Praying for you, Danielle, thank you for allowing us to lift you up. Praying for salvation for your husband, praying for Godly support for you….

    • Kimberly

Oh Danielle, I’m praying for you! Lord, let your light shine brightly in and through Danielle dispelling all the darkness is her home! Whenever you can, Danielle, try putting on Christian radio or praise and worship music. It will change the atmosphere in your home and help you keep focused on Jesus. He loves you. He will be your strength. Know that “she’s” are praying for you even if they don’t post! The Lord will put you on their hearts. “Now may the God of all hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the empower of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

    • Holly

I pray for the light, Christ’s light, to shine in and break apart the darkness that is holding Danielle’s husband – that he would know the grace found in Jesus.

    • Brittany

Praying for you and your family Danielle!

    • Pamela Jo

Praying for you and your husband, may God’s light shine in your home pushing out all darkness. May your husband turn to the Lord and receive help for his depression. Surround yourself with loving, Christian friends, a mentor, pastor, someone God-centered to walk alongside you. May God give you strength and hope to walk your path.

    • Terri

Lord, I pray that you give Danielle the strength and wisdom to stand up against these powers of darkness for we fight “against the world powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavens”.
I pray you study and get understanding of Ephesians 6:10-18

    • Mari

Dear Jesus I pray for Danielle that you would protect her and keep her strong. I pray that her husband will be moved into a relationship with You.

    • Sarah

Danielle, I pray for your strength to endure. I too have a husband that battles depression. I have learned to focus on my own relationship with God. As selfish as that sounds it is what makes me strong which in turn allows me to be happy without guilt. Over time my husband has improved and I believe it is due to my outward reflection of Jesus.
I pray that you too will learn what is not your responsibility or control, Give it to God.

  • Like so many others, I have also enjoyed this study very much! I spent the entirety of the month of December so excited to celebrate Jesus’ birth (I actually celebrated every day and should probably continue to do so, because He should be celebrated every day of the year). Here’s to 2018! May the new year bring abundant blessings to us all!

  • Churchmouse

Grateful that I “have the light of life.” May I follow Him with all my heart, soul, mind and strength in this new year. May His light shine through me.

  • Kelly Schulz

This study has been amazing! Your team crafted it in His power, and He used it for the purposes of a deep and rich worship in my soul this Christmas! I’m sitting here with the beautiful book in my hands, each page felt, read, scribbled through, and honestly so sad to see it end! (Equally excited to dive into Matthew tomorrow)…. Thank You SRT Team!!! Please continue your ministry in His will! It’s bearing fruit!

  • Father, I pray that you live and reign in my today, that your Light is what others see…. in Jesus’ name.

Happy New Year to all of my sisters, all of us “shes “.
As we look to 2018, please leave any prayer requests that we might lift before the Lord.

I personally, have learned what it means this year, to hold onto Permanent. I have been a Christian for 54 years, a rule follower, a “be saved and be good” girl. I know, with certain trials in my own life, Jesus did not die on the cross for me to be saved and be good. He died that I might have life, an abundant life. Today, I hold onto Permanent, the Light of the world.

Thank you to all of the “shes” out there. You are loved.

  • Thank you
