James: Day 14

Weekly Truth

by

Today's Text: James 1:4

Memorizing Scripture is one of the best ways to carry God-breathed truth, instruction, and reproof wherever we go.

As we study James, we are memorizing the book’s key verses together, James 1:2-4. This week, we’ll memorize verse 4, which focuses on the effect of enduring in Christ.

And let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking nothing.
- James 1:4

Write this passage down and post it on your mirror or at your desk, in your car or on the fridge—anywhere you’ll see it often. Save the image below as your phone’s lock screen so you can read these words of truth throughout the day.

We want to be a community that is intentional about Scripture memorization. Will you join us?

    Happy Sunday SRT Sisters !
I am so thankful for this study on James and for the insights given. Wow ! This community has a wealth of very knowledgeable, vulnerable, strong, searching, loving and kind women. Thank you all for being here and being so open and helpful.
I had an epiphany during the sermon at church this morning and I wanted to share this:
Colossians 1:17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
I always thought it refered to the earth and the heavens and all the big lofty things of God but a lightening bolt thought shouted to me that Christ holds ALL things together and that includes ME !
He will never leave me. He will never forsake me. He will hold me in His righteous right hand. He will exchange my ashes for beauty and so many other promises He has given me. He holds ME together ! What a wondrous feeling of security and freedom !!!

  • I really loved the Message version of this scripture: Consider it a sheet gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.

The testing of my faith produces endurance! Thank you Lord! I hope to remember James’s words when I am in my trials. Consider it all joy! Joy joy joy joy down in my heart, woo! So happy to have SRT. You help me become mature in my faith with the encouragement and discipleship you bring together. So excited for Romans!

Many times I camped out on Consider all joy…. I remember when trials would come my way with for me and my family I would be excited to see what God was going to do. And honestly these last three years haven’t been that way. I need to go back and count it all joy and be excited about God’s going to do in my life and my family.

      • Kate Rose

Amen! Yes, The Lord is with you. A life of joy in Christ is way better than a life without. I encourage you to do what God is telling you to do by tugging on your heart.

  • I’ve always had issues with comprehension and so sometimes I have to go back and read, and re-read, and re-read for understanding. Thank you SRT, and my you my SRT sisters that have helped me understand God’s word better. Recently our church just finished going through the book of Romans that took quite a few months. And again because of my lack of understanding I’m looking forward to going through this again. Happy Sunday to all of you! Enjoy your families. Please pray for mine as were still on a journey that we’ve been on for a very long time. Hoping for a good day today.

    • Katherine Rose

I feel ya sister. I re-read constantly. Sometimes even the same couple of verses over and over again! But it only makes me understand more and more. (And helps me memorize!) Which God wants us to do. And then later in life, I go back and read whatever it was that I read and The Lord blesses me with an entirely new understanding! Isn’t God amazing? Always blessing me for seeking him. Always opens the door at my knock. God bless you, keep re-reading! I know I’ll be doing the same through Romans. <3

    • Emily B.

I hope you had a good day with your family!

  • What a challenging study! Glad to have crossed the finish line with all my she sisters! Thank you,SRT and this community of fellow believers for the sharing of your lives through James. Can’t wait to work through Romans, my favorite book of the Bible!

    • Katherine R. Jensen

I am so excited for Romans too! And I completely agree, so happy to be with all my fellow believers through this. What a blessing SRT has been <3

  • Wonderful, wonderful study! So much wisdom and challenge in devotions and comments on God’s Word! Thank you, everyone! It’s been a pleasure to journey with you through James.

And so I close the study guide to James, as you, dear SRT community, do the same. We have endured, we have persisted each day. Some days it was harder to quiet ourselves. Some days the chaos around us threatened to unmoor us. Yet we continued on, trusting that in our individual and unique circumstances, the Lord would speak to us through the common book of James. Some days, the devotion challenged us to consider a new perspective, a broader understanding. Some days, He spoke through a sister who boldly and vulnerably posted a comment. It had been good to endure. Do you not feel we are more mature, more complete for having done so? Yes. Me, too. Indeed we lack nothing when we persist in the study of God’s Word. Thank you all for sitting at the table, Bibles open, journeying through James together. Hoping to gather for Romans.

    • SuzD

Churchmouse, I too feel we have matured. I am just learning or re-learning God’s Word and it is so wonderful and helpful to me to be a part of the SRT community. Thank you SRT, Churchmouse and each and every one of the Sisters who gather here.

    • Kendra
