Making Room: A Study of Biblical Hospitality: Day 13

Grace Day

by

Today's Text: Matthew 25:35

Take this day as an opportunity to catch up on your reading, pray, and rest in the presence of the Lord.

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.
—Matthew 25:35

I noticed that Jesus does not mention doing big things for the stranger. What is mentioned is providing the basics : food and water. I sometimes think I should do more, something grand, in order to make a real difference. Here I’m reminded that in God’s economy, even the basics are noteworthy. Doing something, anything, in His name, is better than nothing.

    Praying for you both

  • Praying for you Kristi and for your friend Farah!

  • Tonight my family is having a small party for my grandmother’s birthday. My dad, who no longer lives with my mom and I, will be attending… and bringing the baby he now has with the woman he has been living with the past two years. (The woman will not be attending, just my dad and the baby.) I have met my new sister already and God has taken me on a journey of forgiveness and reconciliation this past year. But I have two other sisters who are coming to town for the party and one of them has yet to meet her. She has a lot of bitterness in her heart towards our dad and this whole situation.

Please pray for my family and for the interactions we will have tonight, that we will be able to show hospitality and not hostility. And please pray for my dad. I have requested prayer for him on here before, but yesterday’s lost cause devotional brought him and this whole situation to the front of my mind again.

Prayed for you this morning Kristi. Forgiveness is a repeated action especially in cases where hurts are so deep. I’ve prayed for redemption of y’all’s relationships and reconciliation between your other sisters and your dad. I hope y’all are able to be truly joyful while all together celebrating your grandmother.

Praying for peace at the party and in everyone’s hearts. Praying for repentance for your dad too

  • Farrah, praying for you and your friend. There is a song by Casting Crowns called “The Voice of Truth” that you may find some comfort in listening to. It talks about David’s courage to slay Goliath and Peter’s to get out of the boat and walk on water to meet Jesus. You are a courageous woman, hold tight to his truths as you support your friend. We are all praying for you.

    • Farah

Thank you verry much, it is a beautiful song. Thank you for sharing it with me and thank you for your prayers!

  • Praying for your friend and for you to know how best to support her

  • I have a friend who had a very difficult youth. She was abused by her father, she has tried several times to commit suicide, but luckely she could never do it. For a while she’s been better, but now her mother died and she’s thinking about giving up again. So please, I ask you all to pray for her, because I can’t do it alone. Please pray to God to give her strenght and help her not to give up. I don’t want to lose her, she is such a wonderful person! Thank you all!
