John: Day 21

Weekly Truth

Today's Text: John 1:4

Memorizing Scripture is one of the best ways to carry God-breathed truth, instruction, and reproof wherever we go.

Over the four weeks of this study, we are memorizing the first five verses in John’s Gospel, pivotal words on the person and calling of Christ. This week we will memorize verse 4.

Life was in Him,
and that life was the light of men.
—John 1:4

Write this verse down and post it on your mirror or at your desk, in your car or on the fridge—anywhere you’ll see it often. Save the image below as your phone’s lock screen so you can read these words of truth throughout the day.

We want to be a community that is intentional about Scripture memorization. Will you join us?

I am so glad that I was blessed with this study for Christmas. I can feel that it is really helping my studying of the Lord and my dedication with reading almost daily. I have veered off the path but I am using today to catch up and I am going to stick with it each day from now on!

  • Latisha

really love this verse! she reads truth is my favorite devotional and I am always blessed by it!

  • Cynthia

Light of the world, You stepped out into darkness. Open my eyes! Let me see…

  • Tochi Heredia

Matthew Henry’s commentary on this verse is beautiful!

“This proves him fit to undertake our salvation; for life and light, spiritual and eternal life and light, are the two great things that fallen man, who lies so much under the power of death and darkness, has need of. From whom may we better expect the light of divine revelation than from him who gave us the light of human reason? And if, when God gave us natural life, that life was in his Son, how readily should we receive the gospel-record, that he hath given us eternal life, and that life too is in his Son!

  • Praying!!

  • churchmouse

I did not march yesterday. I prayed. I will pray again today and every day that is yet to come. I pray that John 1:4 will become truth for those who are in darkness – whether they are on the streets or in the countryside or in the White House or in the Capital. Wherever. Jesus is the Light. He is the Way. He is the Truth. He is the Life. Jesus. That is the banner under which I stand.

I’m playing catch up on my reading, and oh how I had read this on Saturday. My heart was heavy and full of anxiety all day. Instead of praying, I worried myself into a crying mess. Thank you, Churchmouse, for your words. ❤

      Praying for your Husband!

    • Sheryl

Becky, I am lifting your husband up to the Lord, that he will turn to Him and run with arms wide open! Open his eyes Lord.

    • Leslie

Dear Jesus, SRT stands with Becky as she lifts up her husband. Lord let him see that you alone are the Lifegiver, the truth, the way. You love him and desire him to be in fellowship with you. You are not there to condemn him but to walk with him all the days of his life. We know that you do the work of changing hearts. We trust that you will open his eyes, his ears and his heart to who you are. Amen.

    • Mari

      Just prayed.

  • Amen! Alive always!

  • Light of the world!
