John: Day 6

Grace Day

Today's Text: Ezekiel 36:25-27

Take this day as an opportunity to catch up on your reading, pray, and rest in the presence of the Lord.

I will also sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will place My Spirit within you and cause you to follow My statutes and carefully observe My ordinances.
- Ezekiel 36:25-27

  • So needed this grace day and His grace today! Amen!!!!!

  • Janine Benda

I love this , Needed this at this exact moment as I struggle with the bitterness of others who I thought were friends and loved me . Moving forward and trusting GOD to soften their hearts and l ad me on my new path

  • Emmalie Ellis

This was such a beautiful reminder to me! Today, I felt overtaken by the world and busy as can be- when I saw today was grace day, I knew it was the Lord telling me that his grace is abundant and covers all of my stress and unbalanced-ness.❤️ His timing is PERFECT.

  • Janell Sorensen

This spoke to me this morning as food can have such a strong hold in my life. An idol of sorts. I am SO thankful that God loves us enough to cleans us from our idols and impurities and give us the Holy Spirit to walk daily with. It is His love that leads us to repentance. ❤️

I’m working on taking my thoughts captive and meditating on God’s truth as negative thoughts are “triggers” for me and not healthy at all. I’m making a box of 3x5s with verses of God’s promises. Victory in Jesus! #gracefortoday

  • Lillian Gochee

Lord give us the spiritual awakening that we all need.

  • Yes and amen, Lord. Continue to remove the stones in my heart and help me love the stone-hearted to You as only You can change our hearts to flesh. Amen

  • Lord, help us to rest in the finished work of the cross!

  • Alexandria

This is my first time ever really READING this passage that I can remember. Truly inspiring!

  • Katy Tucker

Wow…so amazing that God didn’t just “fix” our sin problem but gave us COMPLETELY new hearts for the Spirit of GOD to RESIDE in US. Amazing!

  • Take away my hard ❤️ and let me see the good in ALL people!

  • Heather Fringer

I love being reminded that I am cleansed from all of my impurities that the world may see in me. He will give me a NEW heart and a NEW spirit. Just a good little pick me up read today. ❤

  • A heart of flesh so I will follow his decrees. Here in China welcoming our new little one. This is what He did 10 years ago. He softened our hearts and we began to desire after what His heart was about. Thank You, Jesus!

  • Hey….where did that come from?
I know I’ve read this before, but never noticed it: “I will cleanse you from all your impurities AND FROM ALL YOUR IDOLS.” Thank you, Jesus!
I need a new heart and a new spirit because the old one stubbornly clings to those idols.

  • I have a friend that is hurting me by always asking me to help her with problems yet never giving back to the friendship. I am sad, hurt but also angry. Lord I need to remove her from affecting me the way she does. She does not realize that she is doing it but I also don’t feel like I need to tell her or maybe I just don’t want to. Anyway my biggest problem is I don’t have really any other friends… so I feel like I should move beyond her and begin to look for new friends. I have lived in this town my whole life but I don’t have any close friends. Lord heal my heart and make it god willed. Teach me how to be a friend and how to make new ones. I pray for that person or people. Thanks Jesus!

    • Rachel

Kelly, I have been there too and it is not an easy thing to deal with. When a friendship is unbalanced like that it can be hard to know what to do. You want to keep loving and supporting because you know they need it and that they might not receive that from anyone else. It can seem like the wrong thing to do to take a step back because we have been called to love and support one another. But our capacity to do so is diminished if we are exhausted and aren’t being poured into ourselves. I don’t know your exact situation or what the answer may be, but you are not the only one who has experienced this isolation and frustration. Let this be the place where God meets you and supports you.

      Heavenly Father,

I come to you to pray for Kelly. Draw her closer to you to find the rest and restoration only you can bring. Give her comfort. Support her and bring alongside her good Christian friends to walk with her through life. Give her the wisdom, compassion, and restraint to be there for her friend in the manner in which you would have her be. Give her strength in this time of restlessness and hope for change. Amen.

  • I feel like every time I read this verse, my heart always lingers on the portion talking about creating a new heart…Today, something else spoke to me. It says, “I will place My Spirit within you and cause you to follow My statutes and carefully observe My ordinances.” If I continue to study God’s word and immerse myself in His Truth, then making decisions that bring him glory will become second nature. When I create a relationship with him that inspires me to make decisions that won’t disappoint him, I will begin to think of others instead of myself. Thank you God for showing me exactly what I need to hear at the right time.

  • so thankful for grace days giving me a chance to catch up. In need of a new spirit and new heart today. One that doesn’t get frustrated at a poorly 2 year old and clingy 5 month old. One that just loves and hugs and seeks to know the Lord more. Thankful to come to God afresh each and every day!

  • There is no deadline to become new again – thank GOD! I have been struggling with some hard questions. I have made a lot of mistakes. A LOT. Thank you God for grace. Thank you for my NEW heart and spirit!!!!

  • Jesus, this is my prayer for this year. Lord give me a new heart and a new spirit. Renew me and restore my relationship with you. Remove my heart of stone, and give me Jesus a heart of flesh.

  • These verses have become such a blessing for me lately. For some reason, for the longest time, I thought it was my job to clean my act up and obey God and looked at it like a difficult (perhaps insurmountable) struggle/task. I’m not saying it’s easy, but how quickly I had forgotten the grace of God. He has done it all for us and he will bring change to our hearts and help us to follow and obey him. We will never be perfect, but He is working through us.
    Dear gracious and loving Father,
Let us never forget that you walk by our side. That you share our burden in everything. That we have received your Holy Spirit that we may be filled with you always. We can do nothing of our own power. Help us to turn our faces towards you in all that we do. Amen.

    • Cecilia

    • Randi

Yes. This exactly! To go along with that…today is titled ‘Grace Day’. If you read up a little in Ezekiel 36:22 it says “…I am bringing you back, not because you deserve it.” Nothing we can do makes us worthy of God’s love and forgiveness, yet He does so willingly.

  • Just got back from my run (thank goodness it was only a light rain). Bekah, yes we were never meant to carry our burdens alone. Love that! And Sam so glad you shared. I enjoyed reading your story! And yes HE loves our messy hearts!

  • Many prayers and much love to all you beautiful women. Thankful for Christ’s unconditional love and his gift of cleansing.

A few years ago, the Lord gave me a picture of my heart like a hard plastic heart you might buy full of little M&Ms. He showed me I was trying to fill my heart with things and even stuff tissue paper in all the spaces to cram it as much as I could. But there were still spaces unfilled.

And then (in the mind picture) He came and took that away and gave me a fleshy heart–literally looked like a piece of steak with a cavity in it. He poured a sweet smelling oil into it that filled every millimeter. He showed me how He can fill every small part and desire. How much more can liquid fill a space than solids! Our loving Father longs to give us a heart that can beat and move for Him and be filled by Him, so we can pour out His love and sweet fragrance to the lives around us.

It is a simple picture but I can’t read this verse without remembering that time.

  • I’m so in awe of the Lord this morning. Two years ago on a retreat, I truly received and understood His grace for the first time in my life. During quiet time I remember writing pages and pages to the Lord. I was finally opening up about my past struggles with depression, alcohol, promiscuity, and self harm (college was kind of a mess for me). I was done hiding in the dark. I brought everything into the light for the Lord. I was done hiding, even though you can never truly hide from God. For the first time I felt and knew that His grace meant He loved me, even with my mistakes and messy heart, He loved me. Reading my bible that day during quiet time, I didn’t know where to start so I picked a random page and started reading. Guess what God’s first promise to me was? That He would give me a heart of flesh and put a new spirit in me. That day, I truly gave my whole life over to Him. So today, after struggling with some doubt lately, seeing this verse on a GRACE DAY, had me on my knees, in tears, praising him. He is so good, and he knows us all, and He really loves all our messy hearts of flesh. ❤ this is long, but I needed to give Him the glory in this connection.

  • This verse!

  • Mari I completely agree. When I put my focus on the Lord or on the service of others it takes such a weight off of me. Dwelling on my own circumstances and problems will run me dry so quickly and it’s so easy to do. We were never meant to carry our own burdens, our Savior is always at our side waiting for us to lay them at His feet.

  • I too enjoy grace days and agree with Amber that grace days are the days we go back and read or reread any days missed. My intentions were to get up just before 7 to do this and then go for a run. I NEEDED sleep! Going through a lot and needed that sleep. My heart aches and have lots on my mind. I’m so grateful to be here with all of you and it helps to get my mind off myself and put it on others. Praying for you Barbara and your friend.

Today I realized that for almost 20 years, God has been in my life. I have had a heart of flesh, not of stone. I have a new Spirit that is always with me. God is ALWAYS with me. There is never a time when He is not. How amazingly cool is that?!? The creator of the world is with me on a daily basis. He never leaves.
For all those years I haven’t always remembered that. I have not used my heart of flesh to its full potential, probably even sometimes letting it sit dormant like a heart of stone, but my God is still there.
Yes, life might get hard, but HELLO, God is always right there. What an eye opener today.

  • Katalina

When it says catch up on reading, what exactly is it suggesting?

    • Amber

I think they are suggesting that life doesn’t always go as planned, and our times of study can often be interrupted for all kinds of reasons. Grace Day is an opportunity to go back and read or reread any days we may have missed.

  • Time for letting God craft a new heart… Lately, I’ve felt the insistent call in my frantic life to “make space.” Space for God, loved ones, and my own needs that I so often choose to ignore. 2017 will be the year of choosing to navigate perfect grace, rather than trying to force my way to control. So thankful for a community of like-minded women. I’d love for some people to be held accountable with! I wrote some some more thoughts on the journey to God’s grace, thanks for a safe space to share the deepest part of my heart.

    • Jessica

      Hi Olivia ,
I really enjoyed reading a few of your blog posts. Very inspiring. Do you know of any apps that are for blogging? I really did inside me. You have great New Years resolutions for 2017. Some that were brought to my attention on how I am as well…and what I should be doing to change. For example, listening more and less talking.
      Thank you for your post.

      • Olivia

Thanks so much for your time and clear thoughtfulness! I’m so glad God is moving in you this year too, and it’s nice to know we’re not in this alone. :) I use and they have a great (free) app, but I know of several people who like Blogger as well. I hope this year is full of growth for you!

  • So glad God loves us enough to clean us and to keep us!

  • I love that God not only gives us a new heart but removes our heart of stone. He doesn’t leave us with the old but removes it. Thank you Lord for cleansing us and removing the old!

    • Pamela Jo

Yes, Jenna. I love that you pointed out that He removes our hearts of stone. Thank you Jesus.

  • Mercy Me

Barbara, praying for you. Casting Crown’s song “Praise you in this Storm” I find a great deal of strength in when I am feeling low.

    • Pamela Jo

I just turned on pandora for some worship music to pray and meditate and Praise You In This Storm came on. Yes, so beautiful.

    • BarbaraH

Thank you! And for this encouraging song.

  • Kasey Summers

One of my favorite passages of Scripture!! God did everything to secure our salvation!!

  • A much needed grace day to catch up on the reading, and it was an inspiring reminder that God will wash away our sins, giving us a fresh start, a new heart, when we choose to follow him.

  • Praying for you and your friend this morning Barbara. I am thankful for God who knows all there is to know about me and still wants a relationship with me. Thankful that He is changing me and shaping me into the image of my savior Jesus Christ. Overwhelmed by His never ending love. In awe of Him today.

  • I needed this verse this morning. My time with a work experience is wrapping up this weekend that has sapped me of all physical and mental strength for several weeks. I raise my hand, eagerly hoping to receive a new heart of flesh today from the Lord as I transition to a bit more peace. Though I don’t quite know what is ahead, I cling to Romans 8:28 and His precious promises. “I will cleanse you from all of your impurities and all your idols.” YES! So thankful that because of Jesus, we are continuously cleansed, continuously forgiven, continuously renewed, and perpetually refreshed.

I will say it again and again – thank you SRT for existing. Thank you to each of you for being here. Knowing that there is this brave and beautiful community of women who show up each morning as a fertile soil upon which we can pour out our hearts and prayers is such a beautiful thing and such a sacred space that I am overwhelmingly grateful for each and every day.

  • I cannot do it alone in my own strength. Thank you, God, for replacing my heart of stone! I also can’t rely on my own feelings. I frequently pray that God put a desire in my heart for him and his word, because I don’t always have the energy on my own to seek Him.

  • Alexis Maycock

These passages in Ezekiel again remind us that it is God who saves us, who cleanes us…we cannot save ourselves. That is a good feeling to know that His provision of love…His grace is more than enough.

  • churchmouse

Grateful for grace days and the reminder that God replaced my filthy rags with a robe of righteousness and that He replaced my heart of stone with a heart of flesh made tender towards Him. Because of Him, I have His Spirit within me. That is hard to grasp when I know my daily failures. Yet I trust His Word as He draws me back to Him to press on to follow His way. Humbled to press pause this morning and just say “thank you, Lord.”

  • Elisabeth

Last sunday, our pastor preached about v. 26, because it is the verse of the year in Germany. What I found most impressing on me was the fact that it is God who is active in this verses: He will cleanse me, He will give me a new heart and a new spirit, He will cause me to follow His statues and observe His ordinances. It is not my own doing, it is His.
It is also not said that God will give me the perfect heart instead of a heart of stone, but a heart OF FLESH. Flesh is often regarded as being quite negative in Scripture, as weak and as sinful. God knows this because He Himself gave us this heart. He knows we are not able to perfectly follow Him – yet. But one day we will be – because He makes it possible. I am so grateful for that.

  • BarbaraH

Sisters, I’d value your prayers. Like so many of you, I’m struggling with depression. I’m trying to hold it all together, though I know only Jesus can. I’m facing an operation next week, and trying at the same time to support a dear sister-in-Christ who has massive problems – but am running out of strength. Please pray that I, and she, will know God’s arms supporting us, and be able to trust Him in the weeks to come. So grateful for SRT!

    • Dana

My prayers are with you both. Peace be with you.

    • Pam

Praying for you. dear Barbara. “The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” I am praying that God’s peace and His presence will overwhelm you and your friend in the days ahead. Much love to you, sister.

    • J

God’s tender heart towards you and your friend, dear Barbara. Praying for your struggles, your surgery, and your strength, and for both you and your friend’s peace and deliverance this morning. My heart hurts for you as I understand on some level what you must be experiencing. I admire you, you are not alone, and may God bless you and provide for you on every level during this trying time.

    • Lynne

Father God, I pray for Barbara and her friend. May they both feel your strength and peace. May they be blessed with your healing and encouragement. Thank you, God, for all you do and have done for us!

    • candacejo

A very present help in time of trouble is our God! May He give you that peace that passes all understanding and strength that comes only from Him. ♥

    • CJ

God I come to you today on behalf of Barbara and her friend. I ask that you will be their divine strength. I come against the spirit of depression and heaviness and ask that you give them peace of mind and heart. Give them endurance for the journey ahead and help them to know joy on the inward parts. Help them both to lean and depend on you and keep them in your care. In Jesus’ name. Amen

    • Elisabeth

Offering prayers in your name Barbara ❤️

    • Katalina

I’ve definitely fallen at the hands of the enemy with depression. I’m only 20 years old but I know just how draining and destructive it is. You’re in my prayers and remember God’s power is far greater than anything else!

    • Sam

Praying for you! I have gone a few rounds with depression myself, so anyone struggling is close to my heart. He will carry You through. Anyone weary can go to Him for rest. Rest in His arms, He will carry you. I know that right now nothing feels okay, and knowledge of God doesn’t always help. The storm might be raging now, but He can calm it in a second. Sometimes when He doesn’t calm the storm, He calms His children in the storm. So I pray that His peace will surround You and give your heart rest.

    • Joanna

I know this daily well. I’m praying for peace for you. You are protected by the Almighty !

    • BarbaraH

I’m in tears of thankfulness for the prayers of my SRT sisters, for God’s goodness. I can say that His peace overtook me today, and my friend too. I know that there will be more battles ahead, but I am so grateful! What a gracious God, and how faithful He is! Thank you.
