Advent 2015: Born Is The King: Day 28

Grace Day

Today's Text: Philippians 2:9-11

Text: Philippians 2:9-11

Take this day to rest in God’s presence. Pray the prayer below, then read and reflect on the scripture that follows.

Almighty God, you have given your only-begotten Son to take our nature upon him, and to be born of a pure virgin: Grant that we, who have been born again and made your children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by your Holy Spirit; through our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom with you and the same Spirit be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.
- from The Book of Common Prayer

For this reason God highly exalted Him
and gave Him the name
that is above every name,
so that at the name of Jesus
every knee will bow—
of those who are in heaven and on earth
and under the earth—
and every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
– Philippians 2:9-11

Thank you all for a guide to walk me through this holy season. It was pure joy to read the scriptures that foretold the birth of Jesus. Your devotionals each morning helped me to process and pray.
    How blessed are we! ❤️

  • I am finishing up this study just a few days late in my typical fashion. I loved the scripture for this day, particularly the segment that states, “At the name of Jesus every knee will bow.” It really made me think! How often do I think my own plans are better than God’s? How often do I actually stop to bow before God? Praying today that God will humble my heart and that I will submit to God’s plan for my life. I feel so much more peaceful already!

I agree!! Such a great reminder to stop, take a breath, and praise Him

  • Like many others I have been so blessed by this advent devotional time. It really helped me to stay focused. I became a couple of days behind but the Holy Spirit continued to tug at my heart to finish. Thanks to all who contributed!

  • I have never commented before, but have loved this site for awhile! I just wanted to say that I truly enjoyed this Advent Study. It was fantastic and I thank you for the time everyone put into it. I also enjoyed reading through the comments and seeing others thoughts on each day. Thank you again! Looking forward to the Genesis study! :)

  • I’ve loved the book of common prayer! Is that something I can pick up at a store?

    • Churchmouse

Yes most Christian book stores will carry it or you can order it from Amazon.

    • Kaite

I checked a copy out from the local library :)

  • Jessica Allred

This study made me focus purely on waiting for the birth of Jesus. Therefore my expectations for gifts were low and my joy just climbed as I realized how blessed I am. Thank you for this study!!

  • THANK YOU for this series. i loved it so much. God is so good!

ps also loving the common book of prayers (we don’t do that in our church). such powerful words to pray.

this advent study really enhanced this time of year for me. it helped me focus on Jesus and God’s big plan instead of me focusing on earthly reasons why this season stresses me out. I am so thankful for SRT because it keeps me motivated when I don’t feel like reading and it helps further my understanding when I want to dig in and not stop.

  • This reading plan has been so helpful for keeping me consistent with reading and really engaged in “real” Christmas. Where do we go from here? Is there another plan for the beginning of the year or do we just choose an older plan?

  • So loving this today! Praying we will all have a wonderful season as we continue to reflect on the goodness of God! Merry Christmas one and all, may we all enter the New Year with even more enthusiasm for the Savior Jesus Christ and God the Father.

  • Such a beautiful and unique study! It’s so refreshing to find a group of women with genuine hearts for what God is doing and helping us dig deep. Praying we can all get a fresh vision of what God would have us do in the New year! Merry Christmas ladies

  • My husband has this whole thing with “therefore” — life is like in math, x happens, therefore y exists, nothing is happening by accident, it’s always a precursor to another thing that couldn’t have happened if not for the “therefore” . …So he’s not usually shaken by life’s circumstances, because it’s all the “therefore” that leads to something else, something better… Seeing this today, “therefore”, after everything Jesus had been through — being born into humble means and into a human body to better understand us, the very mockers who scorned Him; dying a terrible death that we may become born again & dead to sin; being raised up by miraculous measures to overcome the grave — all of this, “THEREFORE, God has exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” See, God always has a “therefore”. Every single event in the bible is a necessary precursor pointing to this moment, when THEREFORE our King would reign. Hallelujah, therefore, to our God! Praises be to Him and the Lamb who was slain to sit on the throne!! Therefore, this morning, I sit in utter gratitude for the gift of Christ who first gave us Christmas. We are so thankful!!

Amazing perspective! Glory to God. The more you mature as a child of God, life becomes more understandable and things take us less by surprise. So grateful for all of you here. Blessings.

  • Caroline

Such a powerful verse! Every knee will bow!

  • Thank you so much for this Devo. I am sad that it is over. I read it every morning right when I woke up and I was so excited each morning to read it. This Devo helped me so much through the Christmas season. I kept my focus on Christ and it made the season more meaningful and peaceful. Praise God for his word and for his plan!

  • I’ve never done advent before but this Christmas has been so much more wonderful and meaningful now that I have. I loved this!

  • Catherine

Thank you SRT for this devo! With so many distractions during this season, the advent devo helped me surrender daily and stay connected with God so that He remained the focal point of Christmas. I realized how much I need this and what a blessing it was in my life so that I could be light to others. Merry Christmas!

  • Thank you so much to SRT for a great study and to all the women who wrote comments that helped me to connect even more to God’s word. I did devotions daily for the first time in 20 years. Merry Christmas!

    • Dianne

This is the most consistent I’ve been. I missed a few days here and there, but quickly caught back up. I really enjoyed this!

  • Thank you for this study! Because of this study, this has been my most favorite Christmas season of all in 50+ years.

  • Churchmouse

God always has a reason. There is a purpose behind every thing He creates, being every promise He speaks and behind every person He puts on this earth. I have a “so that.” I’m here because of GOD. I’m here “so that.” I’m not a random cluster of evolutionary DNA bouncing through this world, come what may, until one day, poof, I’m gone. Oh no no no. I’m here “so that.” “So that” those with whom I cross paths would one day confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Amen. Amen.

    • Kylee

Yes! Amen Churchmouse! “So that” I can be the difference in someone’s life; “so that” so many things!

  • This was a fabulous study — my Christmas season was transformed. Thank you!

  • Thank you for this Advent study. I enjoyed it and learned a lot!
