The Second Sunday of Advent

by

Today's Text: Isaiah 9:6-7

Text: Isaiah 9:6-7

One way we make room for the coming King is by storing His Word in our hearts. This second week of Advent, let’s memorize the second part of Isaiah 9:6, so we will have the full passage of Isaiah 9:6-7 memorized in its entirety by Christmas.

Save the lock screen below to your phone as a reminder throughout the week, and rejoice in the One who is our Prince of Peace.

And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
- Isaiah 9:6b NIV

You lost me, friend. Get real, I imagine I get what youre saying. I am aware what you’re saying, nevertheless, you just appear to have forgotten that might be other sorts of folks from the world who view this challenge for which it happens to be and might perhaps not go along with you. You might be turning away much individuals who had been lovers of this website.

  • Having grown up in the church, I confess that I can become numb to these words. I gloss over them without stopping and forcing myself to meditate on what these attributes mean. I forget the power that comes with them. Thankful for an opportunity to reflect and allow my heart to be renewed as I meditate on the majesty of our Savior.

  • Each of these aspects of God are about a relationship….this is comforting and encouraging.

  • For anyone looking for a wonderful explanation of the candles of advent, Ann Voskamp has an awesome series of videos for advent.

The app scripturetyper is really great for memorizing God’s word!:)

  • I’m just so thankful for the consistency of this devo and for the easy to understand truths! I’m in a seriously HUGE area of transition in life right now. She Reads Truth is such a big help to me. Thank you!!

  • Prince of Peace. My HEART. I’m not sure the world needs anything MORE than a Prince of Peace right now! Imagine what happens when a prince enters the room. A hush falls over the people, maybe some whispers among the crowd. He enters the room, and with this Prince of Peace comes an overwhelming sense of comfort, fullness of joy, stillness in the depths of our worried hearts, unexplainable peace. This Prince assumes the throne and invites us not to be just spectators, but to COME, boldly approach His presence and to ask for what we need…and receive.

This is our Prince. We are His bride, invited joyfully to approach Him and receive the fullness of everything He is! Come, Lord Jesus. Flood into our thirsty hearts, Prince of Peace, this & every season. We are so overwhelmed by You!

  • Something that jumped out at me today was Wonderful Counselor. God wants council with us. He wants to walk with us through trouble and through victory. He wants a deep relationship with us formed on trust. The God of the universe wants that for us. Amazing.

Indeed Jesus is everything I need today. I could use some wonder in my life. It’s so easy to become cynical and jaded as I age. I’m thankful He is wonder-full. I’m watching our granddaughter full time while our daughter works so I surely need His counsel. And… A 62 year old is no match for the energy of a 19 month old: I need His mighty strength! Everlasting Father : this gray haired little girl inside of me never had much of a relationship with her earthly father BUT GOD is more than enough – He is my forever Papa! Warms my heart every day to know that. And… The news reports bring me daily to my knees to pray for His peace in our world. It does not come except through Jesus. Praying that all would know and surrender to the Prince of Peace. Yes. Jesus is everything I need today. And every day.

Amen Churchmouse, He is everything we need today & every day! & I’m praying for you, that you would have strength & energy as you watch over your sweet granddaughter…she’s blessed to be in your care! ❤️

For what it’s worth, Churchmouse, this 33 yr old finds deep comfort and inspiration in your testimony! Have a peaceful Sunday, and may He grant you the vigor you need to keep up with the little one.

  • With a 15 year old daughter, Wonderful Counselor, is who HE is for me these days. I am constantly seeking Him for wisdom and strength. Love all His names but for today that one I cling to as I go thru this chapter of motherhood. Please pray for my Daughter to find Godly friends. Thanks!

    • Robin

      Amen.

    • Kylee

Prayers, Judy!! We have just a foreshadowing of this as our daughter is only 8. But what has helped us a lot is inviting her friends to church with us. The ones that come, regardless of what their own households believe, are usually the friends my daughter gets along with best. If you guys have a good youth group, maybe inviting some of your daughters friends would help! But I will definitely lift up your daughter & you during this phase of motherhood!

    • Midge

Praying for you as I end the day!

He is my peace, my hope, my joy, my love. It’s so cool to me how these words bring different blessings, yet at the same time are uniquely woven together. The love of our Everlasting Father brings peace. Our Prince of Peace produces joy and hope knowing we have all that we need in Christ!

  • I have spent my whole life chasing a father figure and turns out He was right here all the time. Everlasting Father…my father! Praise Him.

  • I love that He is so much ~ wonderful, everlasting, mighty and yet peace. So much my mind can’t comprehend but so much that it all means peace.

  • Iill piggy back on Sarah- my favorite name is Prince of Peace. I have recently turned back to God because I realized how much I need his peace in my life.

    • Joy

That’s wonderful Toni… I’ve been thinking of His name Prince of Peace as well. I’m so grateful that that is part of who He is, bringer of peace.

  • Sarah York

My favorite of His names in this passage is “Everlasting Father” …we are children of God! Adopted into His family. Think about that and all the other names – Wonderful Counselor. This is our awesome God!
