In Everything Give Thanks: Day 7

Weekly Truth

Today's Text: Psalm 9:1

We believe memorizing scripture is one of the best ways to carry the Word of our God with us wherever we go—to have God-breathed truth, instruction and reproof in our hearts and minds as we live unto Him each day.

The verse we have chosen this week is Psalm 9:1, and we pray that memorizing it will help us to be women who actively rejoice in the goodness of our God by giving Him thanks and praise in every season of life:

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.
- Psalm 9:1, ESV

  • Who painted this background?

  • Eelizabeth

    I realize even if I am not an outward sharer at times, that I must share the wonderful deeds He has done. Otherwise, how does He get the glory?! So I take this as a personal challenge and a honor.

  • I love this verse. It's easy to foget what "whole heart" means. To me, it means when I'm angry, when I'm sad, when I'm frustrated, when I'm impatient, as well as when I'm happy, and at peace. It means remembering that He is good, and He has a plan. It means being intentional about shutting evil out when it starts to creep in and create doubt. Those times, above all else, are when I should focus even harder on loving Him.

    I've been trying to memorize my scriptures. I find that I'm able to remember much of the Word, but not so much the reference. Any tips?

  • Wow, this verse really helps to shift my perspective! When I focus on all God has done – His wonderful deeds – (rather than on what I think is lacking, my negative circumstances, etc.) I make room in my heart to praise Him for all of His goodness. And that leaves me full of gratitude. God is good.

  • I will give thanks with my whole heart……..(from the bottom of my heart, I will remember, dwell on, repeat all You have done for me. Daily, not just sometimes, but daily.) Thank you Jesus.

  • With my whole heart – every bit of it. The broken parts, the bruised sections, and those that are full. Thank You, Lord!

  • Party Of Seven

    “I will give thanks to You with ALL my heart and tell of Your wonderful deeds,” indeed Lord! I have been blown away by God this week and wanted to give him all glory and praise ! I journal my SRT devotions everyday and Friday’s lesson on Giving Thanks in Stress led me to spend a longer than usual time of journaling as I began casting all of my cares upon the Lord (1Pet 5:7). I wept through every stroke of my pens as I laid these concerns at His feet. I finished with His words in Matt 11:28-30 that tell us to come to Him when we are weary and burdened and we will find rest for our souls. Not thinking anything more, I started about my anything but routine day. I received a phone call from a neighbor just calling to check on how my son was recovering from a recent illness to which I updated her and she offered to help by running by the grocery for me on her way home. Normally I would be quick to not accept such acts of kindness, but I stopped and thought for a moment that I truly didn’t know how I was going to get the few staples I was needing, so I graciously took her up on the offer to help. She showed up at my door with milk and bread and a few other goodies soon after and was blessed to do so. In the mail that day came an unexpected reimbursement check that was in the amount that was just enough money needed to cover travel expenses for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday so I was jumping for joy over that. Later that evening, we went to a holiday get together and out of the blue, someone pulled me aside and shared that the Lord placed it on his heart to pay off our truck for us! Needless to say, there are no words for a situation like that. To top the evening off, when we got home and looked in our bag of goodies from the party, someone had tossed in some cash. And it just so happened to be in the amount to cover a medicine and a dr appt copay my son was needing! Now no one but God knew about any of this!! And honestly, because of the fog I have been living in for the past couple weeks, it didn’t fully hit me until the next morning as I rose to spend time with the Lord and I read over my journal from the day before that I realized how quickly My Lord had came to my rescue. I began weeping for nothing is too big or too small for our God!

      Amen, Tina. Grateful for all of His wonderful deeds and gifts. I love the reminder to "continue to receive" from Him. For me, receiving can often be a challenge. But it is a very, very important aspect of being in relationship with God. To receive His grace. His love. His goodness. Beautiful.
