1 Peter: Day

The great send-off

by

Today's Text: 1 Peter 5:12- 14

Text: 1 Peter 5:12- 14

It’s closing time.

We’ve read Peter’s letter the last two weeks. We’ve dug into the meat of the letter and now full, we feel ready to push our chairs back from the table. But if we think the last few verses of 1 Peter are just an attempt to wrap things up with nothing important to say, we’re wrong.

Peter wants to bless us. He wants to infuse us with power and confidence. He wants to motivate us to act boldly right where we are and to be who God calls us to be. It’s not an ending, it’s a beginning.

And like Peter, as we finish this study, we want to encourage, equip and edify you as well.

So as you go forth, may you set your hope and your eyes fully on His grace and may it be yours in abundance.

May you love one another deeply from the heart, being sympathetic and compassionate.
May you humble yourself, to others and to the Lord, so that He may lift you up.
May you cast all your fear and anxiety on Him, and may you feel His strong hands lifting the burdens from your shoulders.
May you be, in your hearts set apart, living as you’ve been called, so that you may inherit His blessing and taste that He is good. Oh so good.

Friends, peace to you.

To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Same Day Delivery Says: This is very nice post. It seems that we have made a tour by reading it. Great…..

This 1 Peter study has just invaded my everyday life. Every day this devotional has made its way into my personal life. During this study he has been speaking to me in the areas of submission, gentleness, trials, tribulations, suffering, and humility. And “God Knows” I’m going through the same things with persons I can’t cut out of my life. I’m going to pray that beyond this study that I don’t forget what I’ve learned here and that I will start to apply it to my life and to these persons, all believing and unbelieving, family and friends, etc. because it won’t be the last time I’m challenged in this area of paying them back with kindness.

When is the next one supposed to start? I missed doing this one so I can't wait to dig into the next one

I was traveling yesterday so while I did the devo I didn’t take time to post. Thank you SRT writers and sisters for another great journey. Looking forward to the next! Xo

  • Thank you SRT for opening up the Bible to me and for community. I feel blessed. Some thoughts from the study that I will continue to attempt to follow: there is freedom in submission, stop-breathe-pray, tell the Lord how it hurts AND wait for a response, past is over so make the rest of your life about this. Lord, help me to love someone a little more today. Amen.

  • This was the first SRT I have joined in on. I was really feeling the need for the Word in my life. I live abroad and often find myself feeling lonely and missing the community I had built where I lived previously.
There were so many reminders in the scripture, particularly the one about humility and submission as my marriage is at a challenging place right now and I'm looking to work on myself and my contributions to our relationship.
SRT has provided a respite during some otherwise very hard days and reminded me that there is someone out there who loves me no matter my faults, but still wants me to be the best that I can be.
I'm excited for the next study and to contribute more as I've really benefitted from everyone else's comments. I hope the Lord will continue to guide us all towards Truth.

This study did a number on me and couldn't have come at a better time. A few themes I learned about myself from this study is that I need to REALLY learn self-control (highlighted every time I saw it…), humility, humbleness and submission. It's very hard for me to just let go of things that hurt me, whether in the moment or in the past whether intentional or no- I probably take things way too personal, and this study really helped me to put things in perspective. I've never really read through 1 Peter before, just knowing a few verses here and there, and I think this is a book that I'm going to read once a month as a refresher and reminder of who I need to be and keep myself in check.

Thank you SRT and to the SRT community. You all are amazing, uplifting, and encouraging! Can't wait to share in each other's lives in the next study!

Praying for you. Keep Eph 4:32 in mind. "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you." That is so hard to do for me sometimes. Especially if this person is a family member.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you respond in love, He will!!!! Set up boundaries, and decide how you will respond before there is an incident. When there is one, take a deep breath, pause and say a quick prayer that your words and responses will honor God. You will be blessed.

  • God knows

Good night sisters I know its late but if anyone is awake I’m asking for a quick prayer tonight. My soul is sore from getting treated like crap by someone and I don’t know what to do anymore. I want to cut the person out of my life completly but that’s not christ like. Please pray that I don’t hardened my heart to this person and the Lord helps me to forgive….thxs in advance

    • tabithahannasmith

Hello, I'm awake because it's morning here! Praying for you!

    • amykelly213

I am praying for you! Christ would want you to cut away those things– and people– who keep you from Him. That includes people in your life who make you feel less than who you are. God made you, God loves you, and no one should take that security away. What Christ WOULD expect is that you show them love even when they are showing hate to you, which is not easy. You cannot always cut people completely out. But as you separate yourself from this person, continue to show kindness and love. God will deal with them in His own time. Hope this helps! Praying!!!

Sweetie, I've been there and I know how you feel. I'll be praying for you! You can lean on us anytime! <3

Thank you SRT or this Devo, its been an amazing and often time, challenging 16day journey, but glad to have walked along with you. I say Amen to every word of todays study. Thank you again ladies. I pray God bless each and every one of you abundantly in all you do and are. You have been a quiet blessing to me. . .

  • I love you guys. This study has been great, and although every day was not an intensely emotional one, it did pull at my heartstrings. Through reading this book I've become content with whatever happens and whatever choices I make- I do not fear suffering, because it will just pass. It will just go, with time.
Please be praying for me- there is a lot in me that I need to reflect upon. Pray that God's love, peace, and purpose for me and my life would transcend all doubt. Have an amazing rest of your Tuesday!

Peter closes with a benediction, a blessing, an invocation of divine blessing, an expression of good wishes.  Don't ya'll feel like we've had CHURCH for the past 16 days?
Worship, Scripture exposition, Exhortation, Encouragement, and yes, even Communion with our Lord and each other if not the actual elements.  Peter closes by acknowledging both help from a fellow Christian and from Christ.  He draws together all he has written as he raises his hand over all of us, who have poured over Peter's letter from God the past 16 days. He gives us marching orders, stand strong, greet each other with love and then he blesses us with the Peace of Christ….and leaves us wanting more from this apostle who spent 3 years with Our Lord before his death and resurrection.

So ready I am to receive again Peter's second letter and dive in.

Thanks SRT Team Great Study as usual!!!

How do I send pictures from my Instagram to she reads truth Instagram feed?

    • Sarah

Christiangirl84, at this point we are not posting content from readers on our actual Instagram account, but we would love to see your photos! If you mark your Instagram posts with the #shereadstruth hash tag, they will be searchable by everyone in our community. thank you for contributing!

  • Thank you SRT writers and contributors! Looking forward to locking in on the next one! Lots of love! :)

  • This study has been such an incrediable journey. Thank you for taking time to do this and ladies for all your wonderful comments.

  • Thank you, #SRT, for this study on Peter, and to all you blessed ladies whose comments are what bring me so much more insight. This sight is truly a treasure stamped with God’s approval!

I have been following along everyday, but not commenting much. This was mostly because I was with my daughter in NY, awaiting the birth of her first child, and helping out my other daughter who’s had a sick 1 yr.old who is finally getting better (prayers for both would be wonderful). But being able to open up the study and immerse myself in His word has been the perfect breath of fresh air that renews me. In His presence I find strength and peace, and an outlet for the worries of a grandmother! The baby is due anyday, and I know it is all in the hands of the God who planned it all before creation. I am blessed.

And so dear ladies, ‘May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His Face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His facetoward you and give you peace’ Num 6:24-26

  • I don't know what it was but this study touched me so much. It pulled at my heartstrings. At times I found myself emotional and filled with so much love for the Lord and others. It makes me want to be the best person I can be and through my actions, lead others towards Him so they too can feel what I am feeling right now. I pray I never forget this devotional and I keep it in my heart and when I falter, I will go back reread I Peter. Peter wrote that he wrote this letter to encorage us, to tell us how kind God really is and so that we would continue having faith in him. Well your letter worked for me. This devotional was truly a blessing and came at the right time. As always, thank you she reads the truth team.

  • Thank you so much for this study and this community of women! I don't post very much, but I am so encouraged and convicted as I read through the comments. This is a great way to study God's word together! How do we find the next study? I usually end up following later than when they start. Thanks again! I will be praying for you ladies!

  • Elizabeth

I can always use a reminder to show more of a gentle and quiet spirit, and even more so, to do everything in HUMILITY, as I am too good at looking for ways to get people to look at ME, when I need to show them HIM. This study was a great reminder of this.

  • apandabear91

    loved this study!!

  • Candacejo

A rousing "Ditto" to all of the comments! Thank you SRT writers for another fabulous study! My heart overflows!

It's not an ending, it's a beginning! Amen!

    Awesome study.
Lord thank you for speaking to us thru your word. Bless the vessels you have chosen to deliver that word. Bless those whoose hearts have been pricked, whose minds have been stimulated through this study. Lord help us not just be readers, hearers, of the word but doers. Amen.

So moved by this call to act…

May you love one another deeply from the heart, being sympathetic and compassionate.
May you humble yourself, to others and to the Lord, so that He may lift you up.
May you cast all your fear and anxiety on Him, and may you feel His strong hands lifting the burdens from your shoulders.
May you be, in your hearts set apart, living as you’ve been called, so that you may inherit His blessing and taste that He is good. Oh so good.

Ladies have a great day on this thankful Tuesday.

  • "this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it". v.12b. I want to recognize Your grace today Father. Not take it for granted. I want to show Your grace to those around me. I want to stand fast in it. In Jesus Name. Amen.

  • Great study! Looking forward to journeying through the next one with y’all! Hope all you ladies have a great day! May you be blessed and be a blessing to everyone in your life!

  • Ruth Rouchard

Amen. That was great. This is the body encouraging the body. So grateful to have found this community. Can’t wait to forge ahead with SRT.

  • This study of Peter has really spoke to me and I have enjoyed it so much! The call to be humble, to submit and have a quiet and gentle soul is something that I need to work on and seeing those calls repeated throughout Peter have solidified the importance of those in my heart. Being humble is more than just being quiet, it is about submitting yourself before others. Whether they be elders, your spouse, or other leaders, humbleness seeks to replicate the tiniest amount of Christ. Every time we submit and humble ourselves, we are outwardly showing others our reverence to Christ and our acknowledgement of Jesus' humbleness and submissiveness. Naturally I like to be the leader, the center of attention, the loudest and funniest in the room. Nothing is bad about that per se, but quieting my soul, humbling myself and letting others take the reign is something this study has taught me and something I hope to continue working towards as we move forward!

    Excited for what's next!

  • BE THE GLORY!

  • DrShanWalks

    Amen!
