Advent 2012: Day

All nations shall find peace from the God of jacob

Today's Text: Micah 4:1-7

Text: Micah 4:1-7

What name do you walk in? What flag do you fly? What cause is your banner?

When we encounter Jesus – when we START to see with human eyes and human hearts, the scope of what it is He’s done for us – we should walk in one name.

Not our own, not our cause or our opinion. Not our tribe or our comfort or our ability or our religion. We will walk in the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.

Lord, let it be.

Got my first letter yesterday! Loved it. I feel like I am a piece of something fantastic that is just starting to come about. Feeling a strange feeling of community around it all. Maybe you happen to be on to something here! Who would have ever imagined that people would basically print out words on paper just to have it sent throughout the mail to another person’s mailbox. Next thing you know, peoe is going to be growing their own food and walking or riding bikes everywhere. It’ll by no means get the job done, damn progress.

  • Still many believes that this earth is created by a supernatural power, which they called God and they were not ready to believe the scientific proofs and theories related to the evolution of the earth.

May I find a way to show everyone I meet my love & light shining everyday in some way! Especially my two young adults facing the world!

  • Oh praise God for new Christians who encourage us again and help us remember our first exciting days walking in the Spirit! The Holy Spirit literally opened the Bible up for me and I almost had a hunger to learn all I could over thirty years ago now! The funny thing is that at times I still do! Just lately I've been more consistent because of YouVersion Bible app. Everything is always fresh and new! It never gets old! God bless you Ellen as you travel this road of hope and faith. I'm so glad you are my sister in Christ!

Thank you for your prayers Mindy! I need each and every one of them, and I’ve taken it to heart to praise him for bringing me closer. Praise and gratitude that my heart and mind be open to his word- Thank you Lord!
Charlie, you can’t know how much I appreciate your encouragement! It helps to reinforce the choices and changes one makes to truly walk with the Lord. I’ve always said if you “talk the talk”, you need to “walk the walk”!! I wasn’t ready to make the total commitment that entails until recently, and I didn’t want to be a hypocrite about it. I take it very seriously, and of course now I wish I’d done
It sooner! Any thoughts, tip, or recommendations anyone has is greatly appreciated- I”ll take all the help I can get!! (:
Hope your day was everything you hoped and prayed for! I’m getting ready for a little reflection and bedtime prayer. Please know you are included when I’m thanking God for all the blessings he’s bestowed on me! Goodnight!

Hi Ellen ! I am so thankful that you have chosen to accept Christ as your Lord and Savior.

“For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9 (NLT)

May the Holy Spirit continue to guide you during your walk and fellowship with The Lord! I know how much of a great feeling it is to feel renewed once you accept The Lord as your Savior! I am so happy for you! And I pray that you continue to find devotionals, readings and fellow Christians to help you with your walk! I too had stumbled upon this app when I first started my fellowship. It has been very helpful! But this devotion in particular has really helped me this Holiday season! I am so thankful and blessed to be a part of such an amazing and spirit feeding community! If you are looking for other things to read to help you I highly recommend The Book, Unmerited Favor! Joseph Prince is the author. :-) Merry Christmas and Blessings to you!

As I am recently new in my walk with the Lord, I stumbled across this devotion on my phone app. I would like to say that this study is amazing, and even more so the unique, insightful comments from such intelligent, articulate women! I find it truly inspiring, and cannot wait for future studies with this supportive community. I feel as if I know you already and am thankful that by reading your comments you’ve encouraged me to keep going, so that I too, will have peace and faith while developing my relationship with my Father and my Saviour,Jesus Christ.
Bless you Ladies, praying for Peace and all that brings you Happiness, Today and Always!

    • Mindy

      Blessings to you Sister!!!

I will be praying for you as the Holy Spirit moves in you and opens the Word up to you! God is mighty! God is awesome! God is your Abba! Praise Him for drawing you to His side.

Wow what I great message for today. Really gets you into the right mind set for Christmas!

  • It is a blessing to walk in the name Jesus. I do not take it for granted. It is a privilege to be called a child of God. I have felt His mercy and been given His grace. That’s why I exalt Him. I worship Him, and humbly give Him all the glory. My God how great you are!

What The Lord has bought me thought have given me faith. The moment I realized this and accepted The Lord as my Savior , I also accepted that I did not belong to myself. Ever since I have tried to do better and become better. I fall and I feel horrible after but I learned to pray during those times! I walk in the name of The Lord because I know through Him I can’t and won’t fail! I am His Servant. Still growing in my faith and in the word but after all I been through I am a firm believer.

So lets not look at how we fall short lets look at how far we have already come. The fact we have joined and been part of this community says a lot about who we represent and serve. Don’t worry about being perfect, long as you see progress… Be blessed ladies, love you! :-)

  • I was automatically thinking of two songs in my head. FUN.’s Some Nights. The chorus says. What do I stand for?
    What do I stand for?
Most nights I Don’t Know Anymore.

And then U2’s Still Haven’t Dound What I’m Looking For it says:
    You broke the bonds,
    And you loosed the chains,
Carried the cross of my shame,
Oh my shame, you know I believe it,
But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.

Well FuN. Is a totally heathen group. Most songs absolutely void of God if not just openly dismissive of it. U2 is a group that at the beginning was very much more a group devoted even if technically secular. But we see them openly grapple with this idea of God not being enough. On one hand I respect that they are so open in the struggles an the other hand disappointed. Because we see Bono as a great humanitarian but Christian? Not really. And it got me thinking. What is his banner? What is my banner? What do people see as what I stand for? Are they noticing what my doubts and my grappling with doubts or my political views and stances on the world or simply just a la putting my family above all else. Or is my banner first and for most and plain to see that my banner is God. And then the rest take a distant second. I hope it’s God.

My God I don’t have to do it all! I don’t have to have an opinion. As the old song sang. .. Jesus paid it all , he paid it all just for me… in him I live… in him I breathe.
This morining I pray that I begin to walk n The name of the Lord.

  • Coming from Northern Ireland where flags are such a political issue, it is so good to be reminded that there is only one banner worth flying. May there be, for each of us who believe, as the old chorus says, a 'flag flying high from the castle of my heart' this Christmas.
Thanks for all the encouragement of these Advent. Readings.

I have followed thru the readings each day and looked into the meaning of what I was I reading – thank you for the daily devotions. I sat at our churches carols & readings service last night and actually did a reading myself (unheard of me reading in public!) each reading meant so much more and I understood them as we had looked at nearly of them so far.
This morning I am reminded that rather than watching us fail from afar God took a human form and was born onto this earth as Jesus – he chose a young girl and humble beginnings. He walked this earth and struggled and suffered ridicule and disbelief – he chose to live as we live. Finally he offered himself as a human sacrafice to take on all my sins and wrong doings so that I may be able to live for ever in an eternal paradise.
    Wow what a Christmas present!

Thank you Lord for it all x

He is Lord of all, before returning to heaven to sit at the Father’s right hand, He prayed for His church’s unity!
How much do we grieve Him when we concentrate on petty inter-denominational fights instead of concentrating our energies on fulfilling the great commission He gave?
