Advent 2012: Day

The glory of little bethlehem is foretold by the prophet micah

Today's Text: Micah 5:2-4

Text: Micah 5:2-4

Because of Jesus’ birth, life, death, and resurrection you stand secure. Because of His greatness, you can know peace and protection.

Imagine Micah, writing 700 years before the birth of Christ, in a town not far from where the Savior would be born. He wrote to warn about judgement, he wrote emphasize God’s love and justice for us, and Micah also wrote to affirm that God would restore His people – namely through Jesus.

If you feel unsafe or unprotected or unheld today, throw off those lies and praise God for the greatest Shepherd of all time. He holds you – the one who holds the universe. He holds you and loves you fiercely. Micah wrote in the midst of war-torn Israel/Judah and he boldly declared that “they shall dwell secure…and He shall be their peace”. Whatever you live in the midst of today, as one who has the great privilege of living after the Messiah has come – declare that over your life.

I shall dwell secure.
He shall be my peace.

  • Stephanie

Wow. God is amazing. To know that no matter what we have been through or are going through, praise God because he loves us and holds us through it all as the creator of the universe. If we ever feel unsecure, we immediately can thank God because he died for our sins. Security, peace, and protection-all through his name. Breathtaking. Our God is so great.

    I shall dwell secure.
    He shall be my peace.
    –My mantra for the week

  • Jemima D.

It’s comforting to know The Lord. I am so grateful for faith and for the freedom of religion. My desire is to grow in relationship with others and there are so many reasons why sometimes we shy away. I am glad I joined this community. I am encouraged by your testimonies And in turn encourage you through mine as I have experienced many of the heartaches you are feeling right now. I receive his peace and dwell secure in his arms. Lots happening in my life and the lives of those I love. Please pray for a loved one going through a very challenging time.

  • I needed to hear this today. I’m going thru some difficulties with my husband and its hard. Now, reminding God will always be with me and He’s my peace, I feel better. Thank you Kesus for opening my eyes and my heart to hear your word today. I love you!!

  • Heather Davis

I won't go into details it this devotional was exactly the reminder I needed that I am not alone and that our Father is in control.

  • I shall dwell secure. He shall be my peace. I will be walking around with this all day. I am obviously behind the others but I'm so glad I found this devotion. Today I woke up in complete worry. I don't stand secure in my current situation. I prayed about it and offered my worry to God and then I read this. Amazing! I needed this. I needed a word. I needed a reminder. Thank you.

  • i shall dwell secure
    He shall be my peace

So simple, yet so easy to forget. I am grateful for the reminder.

  • I have struggled with anxiety & panic, and know deeply what it is to fear almost anything. I know that it is a lie & I have & will continue to declare that I am secure in Christ, not because of anything I do, but because He draws me with an everlasting love, a love that is fierce and true – HE is my Shepherd, HE is my peace. Please help me in praying for those who face anxiety.

  • MisRyan Denay

I thank you for my peace Father….

  • Reading this after the string of disappointments my life has been over the past few years is a reminder from the Father. He is greater than all of these although I’ve allowed them to be greater than Him. I’ve listened to the voice of the deceiver and wailed in hopelessness. Yet he says he is our security and peace. I suppose I need to abide In and believe that.
We’re trying to get pregnant with the aid of clomid as I don’t ovulate naturally. Finished the first cycle with lots of hope as I had many follicles only to get a negative test. Even so Lord come. And now this second round, I struggle with the balance of faith vs expecting it to not work this time.
Thanks ladies for your honesty and making this a safe place to confide and praise God even tho our lives crumble.

  • Tahwahnah

What a promise – oh soul hear this and drink it in.
Holy Spirit bring this to our minds and spirit when we need to remember it most.
I love you Lord for all you have done. We as girls want a rescuer. We dream as a child to be a princess and to be rescued.
As a Christian women we can be assured that this has happened and that we are royality. For we are a child of the king, rescued and bought for a price. “PRICELESS”! :-)

  • leannepenny

"If you felt unloved or unheld throw off those lies and praise God for the greatest Shepherd of all time. He holds you – the one who holds the universe. He holds you and loves you fiercely."

This was just what I needed…

  • carolspahn

"He shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the NAME of the Lord his God. For they shall dwell secure for now He shall be great to the ends of the earth." This Shepherd is strong and majestic. He is no ordinary shepherd. His ways are above our ways, His thoughts than our thoughts. He is the One in Whom we are secure. There is no other security. He is faithful, unchanging, compassionate. When we trust in any other, we are going to the wrong source.

One of the steps to freedom is to not be deceived. We are secure in Him. Job said, :"Though worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh I shall see God." In other words, this life is short in view of forever with Him after this brief earthly abode. If we are forgiven and have our trust in this Savior, Jesus, who was promised in Gen. 3:15, as we have read….then we will live with Him in that day when the lion will lie down by the lamb. "The Name of the Lord is a high tower. the righteous run into it and are safe." Prov. 18.

I am so encouraged to think of His majesty and strength in our behalf because He loves us. We are covenant people…all He has is ours, and all we have is His. May God be your safety today and your wisdom.

  • I shall dwell secure.
    He shall be my peace.

Like others, I don't always feel this peace and security. But I do believe God's word to be true. And so I will choose to believe it even when I don't feel it. Thank God we don't have to live by our feelings.
Christina, Jessica and Jade I am praying for you. Peace and love to you.

We all so often go through our lives wondering how we are going to handle this and how we are going to handle that and the truth of the matter is that the Lord has us at all times. We can count on Him and His promises to take care of us.

    ~ I shall dwell secure
~ He shall be my peace

I can be at peace knowning that I don't know all and I do not have the power He does.

  • Bless God! Such an on time Word!!! & I am so blessed by the reminder of how blessed we truly are to be alive after the Messiah came! Great privalege indeed! Yes!!!

  • I love that he loves me fiercely!

  • What an amazing devotional today! It is a great reminder for us, even if we are going through the most difficult time in our lives, GOD is WITH US! We can stand strong, secure and have peace.

  • Father, I rest secure in the knowledge that you love me beyond anything I can comprehend. You are my peace. Thank you for your gift of salvation, your Son, Jesus Christ. Without Him I would truly be lost.

  • I am writing through tears right now. We are trying to have another baby. We lost our first baby, and then it took 8 painstaking months to get pregnant with our son. We have gone into it this time with ovulation tests. I should be pregnant, and I am late. But I just took a test and it's negative. I was overwhelmed with emotion. The same feelings from getting pregnant before have come rushing back over me. I am scared it will be another round of grueling months of negative tests and emotions running high.

Then I opened this devotional and my Bible.

Praise God for giving me just what I need. Praise Him who is my peace!! No matter how long it takes, I will never be alone, my heart will never be empty, and He will give me peace.

    • Katie

Oh, my heart goes out to you, Jade. I can't tell you how many times I've burst into tears with a negative test in my hand. My husband and I have had two losses. It took 17 cycles to get pregnant between the first and the second. It's been over a year since our second loss, and we just started trying again this cycle. I'm scared to go through it all again, but we have always wants to be parents…

Praying for your comfort. There is so much hope available to us, God's beloved daughters. He knows the desires of your heart. And His timing is incredibly perfect! Hugs to you.

    • Rachel

I had a very heartbreaking experience as well.. When I had my miscarriage. I allowed God to console me and I continued believing and praying for a baby boy. He then blessed me a year and granted the desires of my heart. I now have a baby boy. His name is Noah. God is faithful and everything happens for a reason. Hang in there God will never leave you nor forsake you!

  • What an awesome reminder. The one who holds the universe holds ME, loves me, even though I am far less than deserving. With all the uncertainties in our country and world today, I needed to read this. Thank you.

Christina, you’re in my prayers. God is holding you, sister.

  • If you are anxious, worried, or don’t know what to do, try taking some time out to just meditate on his presence and ask for His peace. You’ll bre surprised by the peace God gives to his beloved child.

Behind every black clouds are white clouds, behind the white clouds is the Sun. Even if the sun us blocked by the black clouds, but know that the sun is always there. In the same way, you may not feel the peace, but God is there looking after you! Jesus loves you!

Ps I just felt that I needed to share this, and I know that this would definitely speak to someone out there!

  • I shall dwell secure.
    He shall be my peace.

One thing I do not understand if someone could guide me…

The coming of our Savior Jesus was foretold by Micah and others. Why is it that the Jewish still do not see him as their Savior? Are they still waiting?

Sorry, it’s just a question that I have yet to come across an answer.

    • claire

Yes Jesus was not the saviour they expected and they are still waiting

    • Sueso

Some do know Him but of course others still don't see the truth. Part of that may be that they have just the first five books of the Bible so we can just pray they WILL see Him in us or in the Pentateuch …those first five books. Like Claire said they expected a king, a great warrior, not a man on a donkey.

  • Elizabeth

Thank you Lord that I can rest securely in your arms today. You are my peace and Your joy is my strength.

  • Kimberley O'Rourke

Thanks, Sheshe! I learn something new every day. I was able to reset my plan back a day so I am on track with everyone else. =)

  • Patsy A Harger

Peace comes to us through the Holy Spirit, and it is always there for us, but, sometimes we have to actively exercise acknowledging and receiving it.

  • This one came with perfect timing for me today. I was just journaling to The Lord about how fearful I am of a doctors appointment I have in an hour. I'm trying not to worry, but I have not had the best experience with doctors lately.

I asked God to show me His presence to me today and then opened up today's devo. What an immediate answer to prayer – I shall dwell secure and He shall be my peace. Amen. Amen. Amen!

  • I have to express again how much joy it gives my heart to read and see God's promises and know the fulfillment of them! It allows me to stay strong in my belief that God is faithful. He doesn't forget His people, and always – always – fulfills His promises and completes His work!

  • Christina I am praying for you

  • Amazing peace. I love how God shows up in our lives and provides grace and peace in the midst of joy and distress. He is faithful.

  • Jesus is truly my peace!! Sometimes I struggle to get through the day with being a busy mom of two boys one who is Autistic and working full time but I always find my way to Jesus’s embrace and he comforts me and calms me. There is no way I could do all the things I do with a sound mind without the presence of Jesus in my life so I truly give him all the praise and glory. He is so faithful!

  • Christina

I needed to read this Scripture today! I find out if my baby has passed away or not during my ultrasound today. I know God’s holding me now. I can feel his peace and love.

    • Caitlin

I am so sorry for your loss! Sending prayers your way!

    • Beckey

Father God, please be with Christina today. Keep your hand over her to give her strength and peace as she learns what your will is for her and her baby. May she feel your comforting love surrounding her today. In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen

    • Missy

      Praying for you right now!

    • Katie

Praying for your comfort today. I know that, by now, you have had your results. I have been through an ultrasound like that twice… It's very difficult. Sending big hugs to you, Christina.

  • Wow!
How relevant is God’s word. I watched the news yesterday about Syria readying chemical and biological warfare to use on their own people!
It was unsettling to hear. Especially for the people in the Middle East but I was fearful, as well. But Praise God, the Spirit knows what brings us peace and comfort and by His word this morning, I am reminded of God’s faithfulness, His promises, and I rest secure in His peace which enables me to face another day and to pray for ways I can help others who are struggling.
Praise His name!! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!!

Ps: Kimberly, you may be able to reset your plan to be on the current day :)
    God bless everyone.

  • Thank you for your peace, I love you Lord

  • One of my favorite passages is where Jesus tells his disciples that He is peace. I didn't realize until today how that was foretold by Micah. This truly gets better and better.

  • Kimberley O'Rourke

I'm loving #shereadstruth. So glad I found y'all and love all that you're about. My YouVersion app has me a day ahead of everyone, so I may hold back a day and start viewing online, but I loved yesterday's Advent reflection on Jesus being our Peace. I focused many times throughout the day on Jesus and the Peace He brought to the world and the Peace He continues to bring. I reflected on the verses from the day before in Isaiah where the lion will lie down with the lamb, how Jesus's Peace is for every living creature, not just us. An infant can play at the hole of the cobra. I can one day go and hug a lion and all of that will be because Jesus is my Peace. Reflecting on that all day was so good for my soul. I loved sharing that with my kiddo in the car on the way to school too.

  • I shall dwell secure.
    He shall be my peace.

Powerful! I know the strength of Jesus but this was needed to hear today.

  • I feel such great peace reading this. The Holy Spirit truly does bring us His peace that is beyond understanding. During this busy time of year, I need to slow down, get away from all of the distractions and experience His peace far more often.

    • Helen Piwiec

Amen sister, I am also thankful for this timely word today. I also need to slow down and become less distracted by lesser things and abide in God's love and peace. Thank you Jesus.

  • Just what I needed to hear today! It's amazing how he loves us!

  • Brittany

It's amazing to know that He loves and holds me and the entire universe at the same time. So grateful. Thank you, Lord, for your promises, protection, and LOVE!

  • God loves us- an amazing reminder. We have to hold on to that truth every single day.

    • A Stevens

      You are absolutely right :-)
Sometimes it is a necessary reminder of just how much God loves us.
This truth and how we carry it to others is how we get through the days praising God.

  • rocknitat55

    I shall dwell secure.
    He shall be my peace.

I thank God for his word this morning. How empowering yet humbling to know that God’s got my back! I am secure. Come what may I am to fret not!
When all hell seems to be breaking loose the Lord is my peace, my constant.
Thank you Jesus that I am never left empty.
    God bless this community…

  • Thank you Lord for your promises. Thank you for being faithful God that always be here for us. I am nothing without you. You have pulled me up and accepted me as I am. I am a new different person. I am your daughter. Thank you Lord!
