We are so excited to begin the book of Philippians together! You can find the plan by following this link — but if you haven’t created a YouVersion account yet, be sure to do that first! After creating an account, you’ll be able to start the Philippians plan – just search She Reads Truth to pull up our current and previous plans. [If you're still having a difficult time finding the plan, each day's reading is available right here - Subscribe to #SheReadsTruth by Email ]
On this day–whatever day it may be–make a note in your journal, put a mark on the calendar. Mark this day.
And then ask the Lord to soften your heart over these next eleven days: pray that your heart would become more like His. More and more, each day.
This time? We’re doing it together.
Introduction to Philippians:
Paul writes Philippians from prison. Yes, you read that write. Prison. And this didn’t seem to slow down Paul’s ministry one bit – though I’m sure his accusors hoped it would. Nothing could keep him from ministering to others, encouraging the young churches, and rejoicing in his life in Christ.
We will learn a lot from the instructions that Paul writes to the Philippians, but there is just as much to learn from the life and ministry of Paul himself: rejoicing in his suffering, thinking first of others, encouraging his brothers and sisters in Christ as they endured persecution, and sorting out conflicts within the church as it was jeopardizing their witness to the world.
Philippians 1:1-11
In this letter, Paul is quite literally in chains for the Gospel. And yet, there is an overarching and very apparent theme of joy, gratitude and prayer for others in this passage.
Why do you think that is? What does Paul know that we, in far less noble chains than he, do not? He is thinking big-picture, long-term, Kingdom work. And on his heart is the business of encouragement.
He writes to the Philippians in verse 6, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (emphasis added).
Paul makes no promise that they will see the fruits of their labor now – that the Gospel-sowing work they are doing in the lives of their unbelieving loved ones will be theirs to also reap. He doesn’t tell them to expect things to get easier or better or simpler. He just encourages them where they are, with a sure confidence to remember the bigger picture – to persevere. That all the good that has begun in that community is pointing to something greater – the “day of Jesus Christ”!
How are you encouraging those around you today? Are you putting aside your own chains to lift up and love others?
Let’s begin our study of Philippians by being a Paul. All of us together, let’s set ourselves and our trials aside and write – maybe even hand write – good, solid, big-picture encouragement to at least one other person. And permission for plagiarism here: use scripture from this passage if you like!
Let’s all live today with the day of Jesus Christ – His glorious return – in the forefronts of our minds, “to the glory and praise of God.”

“Set Your Chains Aside ” really echoes loudly. Paul’s example is very encouraging because he is practiced what he preached. He was kingdom minded. That’s what I aspire to be.
"The joy of the Lord is my strength!" I thank Him everyday for the fullness of His joy and the desire to spread it like peanut butter. It is awesome to be able to share with other women of faith in this study. Let' let our lights shine. What we give out, we will get back, "pressed down, shaken together, and running over!" Joy. Need some? God's got it. Blessings to you!
After having a rough day this really encouraged me to step outside of myself and seek to encourage others. A lot of times it is easy to become so engrossed in your own life that you forget to encourage other people. Paul was in prison and encouraged. We find it hard to encourage in our everyday life. Time to change all of that.
Philippians 1:4-5
Paul prays with joy for them because of their partnership in the Gospel. The passion they share for sharing Christ brings him joy in his prayer and a fondness for them in his heart. He is not focused on what aggravates him about them or on who is getting more attention–he is focused on what they have in common and what is important: the love and grace of Jesus being proclaimed.
What a lesson to believers today of how to pray for each other and support each other in ministry! We are on the same team!
Hey ladies!
I love reading all of your comments! It's so wonderful to know there are people reading the same thing as I am and getting to share what we learned from it. I found verse 7 particularly important because I often find myself in the chains of my own worries. I am an overthinker, and it tends to have negative consequences on good things that happen in my life. The thing is, I do it to myself. If only I could let go of those chains and focus more on others and building the people around me (whether it be my family, friends, or the clerk at the gas station), I could find opportunities to bring others encouragement that I might otherwise be missing out on. What a blessing it is to have this community to learn from one another. I look forward to future readings!
My first day but not the first time of doing a women’s study on Philippians. I must say I was encouraged by the way you pointed out that Paul continued in ministry despite being in chains…that has spoken volumes to me…thank you for sharing.
Grace and peace to all my sisters in Christ! Just starting this plan today and i am already encouraged! I love the book of Phillipians! The kind of encouragement Paul gives is how i want to be toward others. I have a passion for encouraging others, especially my sisters. Exortation is one of my spiritual gifts and i am studying to be a counselor. From this plan i hope to gain a deeper insight in how to best use scripture plus my own experiences to empower others to keep moving foward in Christ despite what society says they should do. And it is my prayer that we all gain better understanding and continue in the ministry of Christ! Be blessed!
GM just started this plan this morning and already enjoying day #1 Phillipians is my fave books. I want to be able to help fellow future to be sisters in the spirit and also help other sisters and encourage them on/in their journey!!!!! I am a Deaconess in my church and I love to serve and help others!!!!! Have a bless day everyone!!!!!
Hello Ladies! I just joined this study, found it on my iPhone. I’m so excited to see what God’s Word says not only to me but to all of you. I love how relevant Gid’s word is, speaking to each one of us in such different ways! It speaks to us relight where we are. That’s the awesome power of His word! Let’s keep reading and learning!
Today is my first day and I’m very excited about the entire reading plan. Right away this message hit home with me and made begin to think of my own work as a follower of Christ. The love that Paul has for all people and the compassion is outstanding to me. I pray as I read more daily to become more Christ-like and truly be able to share this type of love with not only my family but my fellow church members and everyone else, I mean shouldn’t I care for the souls of people like Paul clearly does?. Great start to my first day, I’m excited to see what the remainder of this plan holds for me!
I am amazed by Paul. I have just begun to understand his background and I am stunned. This passage shows that he is now in prison a place where he used to send people who called Jesus as their Savior. And he is using this time to encourage others and bring them to Christ. Doesn't that just amazing you? There have been many times in my life that instead of using the situation to glorify God I complained and didn't seek Him. I look back wishing I had done it differently, and used those times in my life to honor God like Paul did.
It's interesting how God can show us scripture and then we see how it can be used somewhere else…we can see how it applies to what our Lord is trying to teach us. Two days ago I read this verse, "Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in the power of your hand to do so" (Proverbs 3:27 NKJV). Paul had a chance to do good for others and he did he did not "withhold" it. I think this scripture shows us that we must use our everyday situations as a way to encourage and bring good to the people around us. And we must be bold in doing so.
I am so thankful for this devotional. Today was my first day and I am looking forward to the other days! Praying that these scriptures will change me and that I become more Christ-like everyday!
It’s all GOD!! I will continue to encourage, pray, and believe GOD has a plan for others, just like he has a plan for me!
I want to be more like Paul today and everyday. I feel as if I stress over such petty issues when I think of Paul’s persecution. My hardships are composed of snarky comments from my family or losing faith because of material things. I need more gratitude and faith…
This is such a great opportunity to connect with other women.
this is powerful
Praise Him sisters! I love this book because its all about the letters of Paul and things we needed to do. I love to hear encouraging words, especially when I was a teen to my preadult years I suffered low self esteem. But now that I have Jesus I learn to encourage myself as well as others. God bless you ladies.
Danielle, I will pray for you and your town.
I love this devotional. ITS wonderful to connect with other sisters in Christ. Enjoy reading all the comments. I want a heart for others and to help all I can come to Christ.
What I think of this is that we should all be a Paul in our lives. We shouldn’t bring somebody down because they don’t like us or we don’t really care for them. We should all be nice to one another and love one another because you never know what circumstances they are in in their lives. Just this past week two young men died at my school and a young lady died at another school in my county. And I thank God every day that even as enemies we can all come together and support one another and the families that lost their children. It is great to know that my town can come together like that. I praise the Lord even in this hard time because God does work in mysterious ways. And whoever is reading this can you please keep my town in Florida in your prayers? Thank you.
I needed to hear this! ! I have been going through an enormous trial, and have not wanted to encourage or minister to anyone. But Paul did while in prison, amd I see how God wants to use me regardless of my present situation, and I need to move out of my cloud and help others. Awesome! Thank you Lord!
This is my first day and am thankful that, as always, God has found another avenue to confirm what He has been teaching me over the last few months. I need to be content where I am and find ways to serve God from there. No whining and complaining because I’m in a bad spot (my small chains compared to Paul’s) but being obedient and serving right where God has me!
On a practical note, I agree with Erin: the gramatical errors make the devotional difficult to follow at times.
Lisa-so glad you're here! Thanks for sharing!
I appreciate the content of the day 1 devotional- great stuff! I just have one suggestion- there are many grammatical errors in the entry. Maybe ask someone to proofread or edit the passage before it is published. This would make it easier to read.
I am new to this as well and let me say- this has been such a breath of joyous refreshment! God planned it that I would just so happen to stumble across this beautiful community.
A friend and I were recently discussing how sometimes we find ourself comparing our problems to others and mindlessly making an attempt to "one up" their problem. Paul is a great reminder today that it is my job as a woman of Christ to encourage and uplift people in my life on a daily basis. Setting aside my problems and giving sincere attention and focus to others in times of need so that I am able to encourage and uplift them. How can we show God's love if we are so blinded by our own problems on a regular basis. I am going to make it a point to show others love through encouragement and have the faith that God will bring me others in times when I may need encouragement.
Amen to that Kelli! I too am new to this particular format. Decided to try it because I believe it is important for us Christians to encourage one another in our task of spreading The Word.
Let’s draw from one another, stay strong in the Faith and spread it far and wide!
Trying to learn to be less focused on me and situations and more serving and focused on the grand scheme.
Amazing!! Thank you what a great reminder and lesson. What better story to tell about real faith and perseverance than the story of Paul- he never takes his eyes off the big picture.
Does anyone else notice that whoever wrote this put periods in the middle of the sentence? lol I'm sorry, that's just the teacher's kid in me to notice something like that and for it to drive me crazy. I read this letter and I have decided that this is what I am going to pray for a friend of mine who has gone off to bible collage. I love the insight on praying and encouraging people while you are in your own chains. I believe that the key to unlocking your chains is to encourage and lift others up in Christ – with whatever gifts you have .. as for me I believe that God is calling me to a creative ministry (sign, poetry, writing, acting etc) this is what I love to do and I believe that God has anointed me to do it. When I read my poetry or sign a song in church, I am overwhelmed at the response I get from people. We all have gifts and talents and one way we can use our gifts and talents is to lift up, encourage, and inspire people who need it. I just pray that God will continue to use me in this area because I love it!
This Verse Is Very Touching , Im Jusy Beginning Tk Find Jesus And Move Into The Right Path. Glory To God !
This is my first reading of a shereadstruth devotional and I am so excited to see what God does here! Today encouragement is on my heart and i pray God will help it to grow others. Looking forward to getting to know all of you. God bless!
This is my first time to read along in a shereadstruth daily devotional. I am so glad to be a part, and I am looking forward to getting to know more of you!
Good day everyone!
I would like to thank God for platforms such as these to bring us women of faith together, with the beautiful honor to learn to be more like Him an be more FOR him. The past few weeks have taken on a new way of living for me- I can not seem to stop myself from telling almost whoever I see how much rededicating my life to Jesus, has donr for me. Although it might not sound like a lot – 3 of my friends have shown interest in becoming born again..they were happy to hear what the love of Jesus has done 4me,and since I see the changes- good changes they are going through_- I will continue sharing, and motivating more and more people to serve the Lord. It’s a beautiful thing!
A blessed day to all !
Praying for you Carol! God is a healer!!! Speak those things not as though they were. Speak his healing in existence.
This is my first day starting this plan and I must say the introduction has me hooked. Despite his own situation and his own chains, Paul was selfless. He found joy in the midst of it all and had a heart to encourage those around him. THAT’S AWESOME! I try to encourage at least 3-5 people everyday. With the new year starting, my goal is to double that. It’s not always about us, it’s about Kingdom building. No matter what your going through, lay your chains aside and help someone else get through their suffering. God was selfless by giving by giving His son. Paul was selfless by overlooking his hardships in order to give others hope. In 2013, my mission is to be more selfless like Paul and our Heavenly Father.
I am really enjoying the She reads truth plan. It’s a very exciting study and I am so impressed with Paul’s humility as he writes. Love this!
Good morning everyone and God bless each of you. This is my first time participating in a study blog. I enjoyed today's devotion and love how it encourages me to think of others and of the "bigger purpose". It's a great start. What a wonderful Savior we have who can give such joy in such dire circumstances.! Thank you for each of your input. I've been blessed by your comments as well as the study itself.
God bless you all!
It looks as though most people are on another plan, but we can certainly go through this one together.
I have just discovered #shereadstruth. I started the reading plan on YouVersion today. Is anyone else on this particular plan or should I start in the middle of the current plan?
I just discovered this plan this morning. i am just completing another plan in YouVersion and was looking for another. So there is apparently no "correct" time to start. This comes to me at a time when I particularly need encouragement. 2 days ago I found out that my 38 year old son has been diagnosed with cancer.
Carol, my prayers are with you and your family. I will continue on with this plan with you. I am also going through a family friend that literally has minutes to live. God's strength and love will guide my family and I through this time. We know all things work together for His good.
I find this very encouraging…I sadly cannot say I encourage anyone like I should instead others encourage me! I pray I can start with this lesson and continue to grow in God’S love and grace. He has brought so many people into my life that are loving, kind, generous, patient, and encouraging. I know I need to show more to others so that I can share GOd’s love more to others…
I am a leader in my church, new to being officially, and I have found myself getting bogged down by some of the things that come with these new responsibilities. I have been focusing on how hard it has been on me, when in all truth I needed to focus more on the people that I am leading. I needed this, my people needed this, thank you.
I thank god the love & the blessing he have give me
I believe this book will help me to evangelize more and to put my issues aside and help strengthen other brothers and sisters who need to hear about God.
I was raised on the word of God, but honestly I was a little confused by this passage. Before I even found this on uversion I prayed to God to remove my anger and sadness and I know its not an easy journey, but Im determined to pray and continue praying! Im asking all those who are reading to keep my family in your heart….Thank you fellow worshippers.
This is my first time and am really excited about embarking on this new journey with #shereadstruth.
I'm going through a difficult career situation and really liked v9 where Paul says, "I pray your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep growing in knowledge and understanding." I pray that through this journey I will know Him more and His love. By encouraging others like it says it shows us that putting others first sometimes helps us when we don't even realize it. I have always said my favorite verse is from Eph 4, to be content whatever the circumstances. I am reminded of this because of Paul's never ending commitment to Christ even in prison where he stops at nothing, at nothing, to continue his ministry and in life in Christ.
So encouraging and all of your posts are so encouraging. I am excited about a new and learning with you all.
Reading this passage has really set some things clear for me.Ive always found myself thinking of others and waiting to give them some words of encouragement regardless if I know they are going through anything or not.But when I do,I sit around and respect a response and if I don’t get one I tend to get upset. But I’m learning that I have no reason to and that God didn’t bless me with a caring heart to expect things from others.I have to whole heartedly allow God to use me in spite of my own situation to be an encouragement to others around me especially working as a residential youth counselor. It brings me so much joy when I can put myself aside to try and hep others, just have to remember to always keep joy in my heart no matter what.
I enjoy the study plans. I am a born again BA y Christian and this is my only connection to church at this time. I like being able to refer to the devotions as well as the Bible any time if day on my cell phone. Im Nuremberg to this but glory be to God and may you all be blessed. LOL my comment wouldnty post cause it was to short. So is that God telling me I have more to day. Im scared to praise Gd around people
Boleg. I have been judged most of my life.n now that I am changing my life I am more scared if coonviction than ever. This verse is reletive to the chains I’ve punt myself in. I have Azores much to say and share. Testimonies that could possibly began to save the next life but im scared o.’e the one God keeps calling me to be.
Paul is so focused and dedicated to the furtherance of the gospel! I dont think its lime “look at me…i am so much more dedicated than you” its more like…come and join me in the work…even in this day…he speaks to spur us on. I pray that God will empower me to do the same…no holds barred! I have been a a long time and sometimes I often wonder…am I doing what I can? Most times I feel like I am not really on track but laging in so many areas and ways. Good help me to stay on track and work well in what Good would have me do…
I will echo so many of you in that I M encouraged. By reading what has been shared and looking forward to this time and place to share and encourage and challenge one another.I started this plan today and at first I didn't really get it. I have read this verse before highlighted. It but after rereading and reading through some comments I see more! I have to stop focusing on my chains and prison and reach out to others to encourage them; in doing so I lift my sight off my prison and set my eyes and fix my heart on Chirst and His kingdom!!!
My name is Phatima Laster and this is my first day as being apart of this Bible plan. I have been very grateful for my blessings and even through my trials and tribulations I’ve always put the thoughts and needs of others before my own. Today is Thanksgiving day and I am thankful for my family and friends that I’m blessed to have.
My sisters in Christ Jesus, its a blessing for such a time as this. I get teary eyed when I think about how strong and convicted Paul is to spread the Gospel of Good News of Jesus Christ under any and every circumstance and opportunity. Paul is unselfish & always expressing his love for others. I ask God to remove my selfish chains, so that I serve my co heirs in the Kingdom. With Love, Your Sister in Christ
Here in this passage, I can truly relate to Paul being locked up and still ministering to the people saying and doing what the Lord commands of each of His children that are in Him. You have to be in that type of situation to truly grasp the meaning of Paul's words to the Philippians. No matter where we are in life Jesus need us to get the word out there for all the world to hear. Jesus said to be doers of the word and not just hearers of the word. So I encourage you ladies, as well as myself, to get out there and spread the Gospel and let it known that Jesus Christ is Lord! I love you ladies and God's Grace to you all.
I startes the she reads truth today. I need all the help spiritually on my journey to be mire christlike. I am eager for the work God has in store for me. I want to carry out his will better and be more like him towards others especially in my own home, especially towards my mate whom I have gone through a lot with over the last fifthteen years which includes his betrayal of our commitment to one another
I think that not only are Pauls word encouraging but his circumstances make his words so much stronger because he’s praising God in a place meant to break, you down mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. I learned that whatever my circumstances are God ahould be praised because there it is a test to show me something that I need in order to grow, and the opportunity to testify and evangelize his grace. People are not inly looking at the ways in which you live daily, but how you deal with the hardtimes as well.
I started to read the plan today, and realized how thru my tribulations at this point in my life I’m caught up in the problems and not my problem solver. I’ve been traveling so much I was only really giving God time and not his people. Who was I actually being of service to? At this point I feel so battered and bruised that I need an overhaul and I guess I tried to start Sunday with volunteering at a church I attended that was feeding the homeless.
Hello sisters!
Starting this plan and reading the first day has made me realise that maybe I’m not doing all I can to encourage others of Christ. I Look forward to reading the rest And I pray that God can just make my heart like His xxx
How do.we get rid.of the fear.of upsetting someone with our woeds? I often hold back and don’ t want to say anything because of that. Sometimes when encouraging we fall short._
That is so true…Paul encouraged others despite how he was feeling or his circumstance….I love that he never had an woe is me attitude. My prayer is that I can live a life for others encouraging, serving, and full of love and as God shines through me souls are saved! Thank you Paul for your humble obedience despite your circumstance
I came across this website via twitter and I am soooo glad I did. It is exactly what I have been looking for. So I an looking forward to growing in God with a bunch of like minded women.
I started my Philippians plan today. I found Paul's words so encouraging and the main scripture that jumped out for me was Phil 1:4 he who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. I am so thankful that what happened when I came to Christ he has me on this journey and he is changing me to be more and more like him. He is NEVER going to give up! :)
I also am amazed by Paul's character throughout this chapter. How many times do we when faced with trials and tribulations begin a pity party and cannot seem to get our eyes of ourselves and our problems. Yet here is Paul, imprisoned…praising God and giving thanks and encouraging Gods people. This has made me look closely at my own life and how I react when things come against me.
I also love the three qualities of Paul in verse 20: EARNEST EXPECTATION, HOPE and BOLDNESS!!! That God would be magnified in ALL circumstances. I pray for and thank God for increased expectation, hope and boldness in Him that when disaster strikes I am shouting his praise and sharing and encouraging others and taking my eyes OFF me.
Instead of pulling away from people and Gods church I can support others and stand fast in one spirit, with one mind, striving together for the faith of the gospel (vs 27).
So encouraged! :)
Thank you so much for creating this study and app. I was so blessed this morning, first day, by Paul’s words of encouragement and his reminder that God has promised that He will complete what He has started in my life. Sometimes I stutter and fail, but He is always there to bring me back to center. I look forward to learning more about our faithful Father through this and upcoming studies. Bless you all.
Reading this passages lets me know alot about not only the Philippians but Paul himself. Through the chains and four walls Paul still did Gods work and still loved God and the Philippians. No matter the punishment Paul worshiped God i love that. It teaches me to cont to encourages others who are going through and not be selfish and feelings as though others may not understand. Im honestly glad im writing this and read today because my soul needed a outreach and here i can and encourage myself and others. Have a blessed day people!!
oh today I needed this. My heart has been so heavy lately and really trying to talk to pro- lifers about the amazing and miracle god gifts. I have been praying to find a way to talk to these people out and of love and not an ill heart. It is so easy as a human, to turn away when things are rough or even take it out on others. God softens the hearts of his children who reach out to him and want to make a difference. Thankful to be part of this wonderful bible study and excited to see what else is in store!
Would love a prayer partner! It was a God thing to come across this through my Bible app. I’m at Kelly.radigan(at)gmail(dot)com. :)
I found this plan and community through YouVersion. I have been wanting to be part of a Bible study recently as my church community is quite widespread across London (England). I am hoping to really participate in this site. I have had a real stirring in my spirit lately and more of a hunger for the Lord … Reading Phillipians today really took me back to when I first became a Christian .. Especially the passage … 'He who has begun a good work in you will see it through to completion' I am looking forward to what the Lord is planning to do in my life. Be blessed today everyone.
I thank God for this devotional in the book of Philippians. One thing I've notice in my Christian life is our lives become more enriched when we learn to encourage and be an encouragement to others irrespective of what we might be going. I pray that many of bus will desire to be like Paul in that the face of our difficulties we will look beyond our plight and encourage someone also going through a difficult time.
Seed time, harvest time. If we sow encouragement we will definitely reap encouragement. It is more blessed to give. Men will give into our bosom pressed down, shaken together and running over encouragement.
Today God has showed His love by just His touch and presence I am so thankful that even when people friends or friends let me done He never will. So excited about this plan and the Word in this plan. Remember the Lord loves all of you dearly. <3
Hi all! I’ve just begun reading this plan and sounds like its going to be very good. I have to be honest I’m not familiar with Phili. But I sure do hope it sinks n my heart
Just want to say thank God for the many ways to expierence him and his word.coming across this app i thought of my eldest sister whom i dont have much contact with.i do desire to work on this and renew my relationship with her .keep me in prayer as i you alll.GB
I am encouraged by the statement… he encouraged them where they are…
Awesome…. sometimes as ministers we feel we have to give promises…
Sometimes we just need to meet a person where they r. Encourage them.
The big picture is Christ and what he wants…..
Hello ladies just want to share a lil something wit u all. As I was scrolling down in my phone looking for a new plan in the “you version” I came across this plan “she reads truth”. At the same time my heart was really heavy at that moment and I was blaming God for the misfortunes happening in my life. But as I began to read the introduction and the bible verse from the book of Philippians I realised that no matter wat situation we find our selves in we need to continue praising God. It was like The Lord was ministering to me through this reading.i hope u all have learnt something my fellow women and may God continue to bless u all…:-)
Good morning community!
This is the first time ever for me to start a bible plan through Youversion and a chat group. I'm truly excited especially because of what I'm faced with at the moment has me needing the word even more and discussion outside of my own interpretations. The reading today encouraged me to write a letter to my sister who's ways I truly have issue with and so, I'm encouraged to encourage no matter how frightening it can be based on the people we choose. Thanks She Reads Truth for holding me accountable to address TRUTH!
Great plan
Something how He lines things up–I have been on a journey to encourage others and to out my stuff aside and this morning He has allowed me to find this reading plan I will study. Looking forward to more discussions and meditating on Gods word!
Morning ladies!!
I’ve been insanely blessed reading all your comments and am super excited to be a part of this – just in awe of how God is bringing his daughters together from all over the world! :D
So so encouraged by Paul’s situation and his strength and faith in a mighty God, that he was able to forget about himself and remind others that a good work was being done in them and WILL be completed.
Wow. Just wow wow wow! God is doing a work..in me? In us? Yes!! Yes he is! Thank you Lord that we’re not too small to be used for your glory and your good work!
♥♥♥ Hi Love your cheerful positiveness you encourage me ♥♥
I went thru instagram pictures for #shereadstruth and i am encouraged! The essahe translation of Phil 1:9-11 is absolutely beautiful:
So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much bt well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover’s lufe ci
This is so awesome because yesterday I was thinking of how at we have to lay aside the things we go through and take time to encourage someone else.in their walk with Christ.Paul is a great example of this.He was in prison.but still had a heart and mind to reach out and encourage some one else.
Good morning beauties,
I am very new to the She Reads Truth community, and I just want you all to know how very grateful I am to have been lead to this wonderful group.
This is great and I am so excited about the plan and purpose God has for all of us as His women. It is so encouraging to discover a place where we can share our knowledge wisdom and hearts freely without out fear.
My pray over the last few weeks has been to be divinely connected to women who would help keep me on track. Hold me accountable and impart treasures into me as I do the same. God is so good and loves us so very much that He refuses to leave us in there state that we are in.
So as instructed, my encouragement to you ladies is to go through it with confidence and joy no matter the situation be absolutely steadfast and immoveable in Christ Jesus because as we are going through er ate coder to getting to the Promises fulfilling the purpose and plans He Himself has for us. Remembering we aren’t going through alone or in vain because the people God is preparing us to minister to will be impacted in such a powerful way the the praise on our lips should be continual. We are going somewhere ladies and we shouldn’t be afraid or hesitant about it.
Whether you are a babe or heavily seasoned in this journey know that Yes you were createdon purpose. For a very specific purpose. You matter and now IS the time.
Father I thank you for Your Unfailing Relentless Pursuit and Love for us your Daughters.
Have an amazing day ladies.
So excited to have found this! I am looking forward to sharing this experience with all of you. =) I had just made the realization yesterday that I have drifted away from focusing on bringing encouragement to others. And here I am now! God always shows me the way when I don't even know I am lost. =)
This study is already helping me to be more humble in all that I do. Knowing God will finish his good work in me. I want to have more of a heart like his and have a servants heart. Someone may be going through more than I could ever imagine, so being able to discern that, putting aside my problems to uplift them is having a heart like God and showing someone his light.
Hi ladies I see some of you just started as well. I am glad to be like minded with other ladies who want to dig deeper into God’s word. As Joyce Meyer says get it off the page and get it into your life.
Hello everyone! It’s my first time here and I’m so glad to be here. Looking forward to rubbing minds with women of like minds.
I just started this plan this morning and i am looking forward to 11 refreshing days in God presence! I pray that God will speak to us in new ways.
Very refreshing devotional and I am excited to be among a community of sisters who also are believers. Will be praying for all of us to reap a great harvest from the seeds sown through God’s Word. :o)
New here but looking forward to reading Philippians and for the accountability.
The one thing that stood out to me was "making requests with joy." How often do I plead, or make requests to God but I sure don't feel joyful most of the time when I do. Often it is because I am worried about something. Look forward to more.
I just found this plan, and my o my what encouragement!. I have often heard the Holy spirit speak to me about seeing my many trials as a stepping stone to draw nearer to the Lord and ALLOWING the things He is showing me in the word through the pain and struggles be food to others.Yes we need to set aside the chains that holds us bound and remember "God's word is not bound." GOD BLESS EVERYBODY.

Welcome to the SRT community! So glad you are here!
Thanks for this & for all of your encouraging comments. This is the best way to "draw near to God & He will draw near to you".

Just wanted to say hi! I’m new to the “She reads truth” bible series if you will. My goal is to stay consistent for the next 11 days. Rarely do I see a bible plan to the end, abd its usually because I find a way to over complicate it so I’m keeping it simple. 1 goal, 1 focus. God bless us all ladies!!
Mia-
So glad you found SRT! Praying that the Lord grants you the grace to meet your goal! Thanks for sharing and welcome!
Hello, I am new to she reads truth. I was touched this morning by the reminder that regardless how bleak our circumstances, we are always to do the work of our Father and encourage others. Also, when you work with joy, your work becomes enjoyable and joy/happiness is contagious.
Maquita-
Thanks for sharing and welcome to SRT!
How awesome to find this site. To be sharing a read about chains today. I have definately has some heavy chains, cancer. Even though Paul’s are prison chains, any circumstance in life that tries to hold you down and steal your joy is a chain. Every day we must remember that when we are weak our Lord God is there within us to carry us through giving us His joy. I praise God for His constant mercy and goodness in this joyful life. I just started this group lesson today and it is a wonderful reminder to not let anything or one steal your jou
Wow… it’s amazing to come across a group of women who strive to follow Christ rather than worldly desires. The reading in Philippians was very encouraging. I was inspired by reading about how we should put our own chains and/or hardship aside in order to Bless and encourage someone else. I truly believe if we turn our pain into fruit, we will definitely overcome! By taking the pain and frustrations that comes our way, and instead turning them into joy, hope, love, gentleness, kindness etc., we are sure to overcome as well as be a Blessing to others. As I encourage myself, I also encourage you….yes you! “TURN YOUR PAIN INTO FRUIT”
Good morning! This is exactly what I needed and am very excited to begin this plan and see what God does through this!
Good morning ladies! I’m super excited to be doing this plan and digging deeper in the word. Same thing happened to be as it did Rhonda…just kinda stumbled upon it when I was doing my Joyce Meyer Devo a few minutes ago. I can tell I’m already going to love it!
Emily-
Welcome! Glad you stumbled across SRT!
I needed this today. I stumbled across this study by “accident” as I was doing my regular Joyce study and it was what I needed to hear in this very moment!
Rhonda-
Glad you found the SRT community! So glad you are here!
Today word is really true, we get caught up in the rig more of situations that we forget God till we can’t handle it then focus on him. I need to learn to leave it him and encourage others and be a paul
I just joined but today was such an encouragement. Right now I’m. Pregnant with twins and emotionally I’ve been a total wreck. With no peace and joy for days sometime, especially when thinking about birth control option or prevent another unplanned pregnancy. I’m finally ready to let joy and peace come into this pregnancy and this was great telling me to lay aside every chain.
Queen-
What a blessing! Twins! Congratulations!
Praying that the Lord will give peace and show you His will for your life and the lives of your sweet babies.
Thank you for sharing!
Glad that I’ve found this bible study! Look forward to learning with y’all.
Welcome, Andrea!
One thing i like that paul said which was follow me as i follow christ………. that’s what i tell ppl
Kinda late posting but I just began the bible plan, just trying to catch up:
Verses 9-11 resonated with me. The Message version reads, "So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover’s life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God."
Amazing lesson that Paul gives us. Our love should flourish and we should love well! To discern and listen to our feelings. To live a life daily that Jesus will be proud of. To live a life of abundant love, giving Christ all of our praises. To encourage others to join in our praise to Jesus!
It looks like I have stumbled upon something good. This is my 1st time participating in She reads. What is speaking loudly to me is the call to set aside my chains for kingdom work. I am being led through a rough time, but I don’t want to lose sight of my goal. This devotion is right on time!
Classie-
Glad you stumbled onto the SRT community. Thank you for sharing what the Lord is doing in your life!
What an awesome time it is this season in my life and in the lives of us all. I want to encourage everyone in this on this site. God loves you so much that He gave His only begotten Son. He is our refuge. He is a friend who sticks closer than any brother or sister. He supplies all our need according to his riches in glory. There is nothing too hard for God
“with a sure confidence to remember the bigger picture – to persevere”
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1:6 ESV)
Lord, to have this assurance, this confidence, this trust in You… I desperately cry out for it… Teach me to trust you and place my whole heart and confidence in You and Who you are and what you’ve promised… So that I’m not distracted by the trials, but that I keep my eyes on You, at all times, and persevere, knowing You hold my world in Your hands and You know what is best… Nothing is impossible for You, God… Help me cling to that truth…
Good morning ladies,
While looking for a new reading plan I found this one and felt this is a way to connect with others. This is a new experience for me that I believe will be rewarding.
God is truly awsome. As I read the scripture I kept thinking this is so familiar and when I reached verse 6 it came to me I use this as part of my email signature. He who has begun a good work in you will finish it… is how I end most emails.
I am looking forward to fellowshipping with you ladies.
Loretta-
This is a GREAT way to connect! So glad you are a part of the SRT community!
Lets get it ladies ;P All for Him.
Grace and peace,
Jas
Btw… I’m a newbie to the group. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.

Welcome!
“Chains” can be any form of bondage or distraction–they don’t have to come made of steel and require a key to open. They may even come with a keyboard or the latest ringtone. Worries and fears can also easily take the form of chains. Paul says to put them aside. And let’s face it… Paul had more to “worry” about than I do. It’s time to think bigger & let joy and gratitude abound regardless of circumstances.
Hello ladies,
New to she reads, and it has been such a blessing already . I battle my thoughts on what I should be doing and where I should be in life daily. Today I realized my chains that I need to set aside and understand that it is Gods will his time . That I’m merely a vessel to spread the gospel. Tht it is not my eyes I should be looking thru but Gods Devine purpose . Having faith Tht everything is in its proper order. My prayer is for God to continue to direct my footsteps and to remain present in my life . So that I know who I am in him . Also to give me the ability to view others as he views them and with the same heart.

So glad you're here! Thank you for sharing!
hi everyone. i will be joining this group in two days when my other study is over. thanks for your paulian efforts. :-)
Hi ladies
This is actually my second study I just finished the study of Galatians and I was so blessed. I went back to look for another she reads study and I am overjoyed that I found one. This study hits home because. I’m in a place where I have to remember that God has begun a good work in me and He faithful to complete it! Blessed to be in this wonderful community of women from all over the world.
Hello ladies, like a few others I started a couple of the SheReadsTruth plans and didn’t manage to keep up. I am hungry to know more of God’s precious truth and I love how this community stands alongside each other, so I’m trying again. In this passage I love the way Paul says ‘it is right for me to feel this way about you all because I hold you in my heart, for you are partakers with me of grace.’ Holding people in our hearts for the sake if the gospel is huge and so important. Reading Paul’s words causes me to bring to God the people I hold in my heart.
I am just now joining the She Reads Truth community and I am really excited to delve deeper into God's word!
Since the passages are a bit shorter I am finding it really helpful to reread the passage in a variety of different versions!
To have Paul's convictions and deep faith! That is what I hope to get out of this particular plan :)
loving verses 9-11!
Knowledge brought me back to our discussion on wisdom from Proverbs and discerning what is of value makes me think I need to get rid of those things in life that take away from the important things: cut down the Facebook stalking, don't stress about wearing the "right clothes", embrace my new vocation of motherhood. Giving my all to God instead of false idols like money, technology, etc.
I am so very excited to start another of Paul's amazing letters! I thank the Lord for bringing us all together.
I am moved and strengthened by the idea that we can throw off our own chains by lifting others out of despair.
This particular passage grips me
"Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover's life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved int the glory and praise of God." (1:9-11)
I think that verse 7 really speaks to the purpose and joy in coming together to read and study: "I have you in my heart, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you to share Gods love with me." No matter where each of us are in our own journey, the mere act of sharing our thoughts, experiences and revelations is spriritual and sacred. Looking forward to reading and sharing more!
As I was reading through these passages and through the comments you all have made I decided to take a closer look at my “chains” and what keeps me from joyously proclaiming the gospel and shining my light on others. I am brought down by thinking I deserve the best and anything I want. I’m not sure if this stems from the loss of my mom 4 years ago or the environment I am in, but it doesn’t matter. I deserve NOTHING. I have done nothing to completely glorify God or put others and Him in front of myself. In a nutshell, I have been selfish. Jesus suffered and died for me even though I am a selfish sinner. Life was unfair for him and will be unfair for me. I must not let those trials and tribulations drown me. I pray that God can teach me to accept them like Paul accepts his and that I can use that peace and joy of acceptance to show Gods glory to others and help them to find that joy.
Hello all,
I'm also new joining this group, and I'm really liking the feeling so far. I am slowly working my way into spirituality again, and for the past few years haven't even really been identifying as a Christian at all, even though I was raised in church. Lately, though, I've been feeling a pull to re-investigate the faith that I put aside, so I joined this group to see where it leads.
What stood out to me this evening was the concept of "constantly praying with joy," much as others have said. I'm a graduate student right now, and this week in particular is the week where something major is due in every class and it feels like the whole world is about to collapse on me. Reading this really refocused my mind to being joyful in any circumstance instead of giving into the incessant desire to complain about how stressful my life is. It is much more rewarding, though more difficult, to encourage others and try to be content (and even joyful!) with my own circumstances and remember that there are far more people like Paul in the world whose lives and circumstances are much worse than my own (and they still rejoice)!
I am very happy to have found this website all the way from Québec.
I am excited to start this journey in Philippians with all of you. I think it's wonderful to study with women who are hungry of the word of God.
Blessings,
Becky..
Hi ladies… as the rest if the ladies before me, i am beyond excited to brgin this new plan with you all, ive been wanting to follow along since she reads truth first began and allowed myself to drown in “busy”. i NEED this!!! to be connected to women with like hearts for Christ.
The verses that stood out to me were the following…
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return. (Philippians 1:6, 10 NLT)
I want more than anything to truly grab hold to what really matters and live that pure and blameless life. And to be honest, I get overwhelmed as HE reveals more of his purpose for my life to me. But this was a great reminder that what HE starts HE finishes and that HE is with me and will see me through it all. What a comfort :) can’t wait to get to know you ladies more.
Just a little FYI, when things get rough, I disconnect and that is one bad habit that I am desperately seeking to change.
Would love a little accountability :)
Syreena
Hi Syreena,
I complete relate to you when you said about disconnecting from others. I mentioned this in my own post. When things get tough I clam up and go to God. But in doing so I then reject others for fear of showing my weakness, insecurity, fear of being hurt. Or it's just like the shutters come down. And this is with my own brothers and sisters in Christ.
I am glad now that in MY weakness, HE is my strength. I have been going through something of a rough season and came out the other end so much stronger in him. But during I pulled away from the unity of my church. Nursing my wounds? ;) anyway God dealt with that and now I am back with those who love and care for me. Please note I never physically pulled away so much but more emotionally. Make sense? :) it's something I also have to change but I believe God has already given me break through in that area……hey and I thought it was only me! Glad to know there's others. I will keep you in prayer :)
God bless,
Wendy
Hello Ladies! I’m so excited to be starting this new study:)
When I first read the question about putting aside my “chains” and encouraging others, I thought, “well, sure. Why not?” But then God laid it on my heart how quiet and reserved I’ve been lately, which is pretty out of character for me. I’m a non-traditional college student, 28 years old and happily married for over 8 years now. I’m amazingly blessed, but also quite stressed with school work, house work, financial stressors, etc. I’ve found myself thinking a lot lately, “Wow! I’m dealing really well with all this stress!” But as I was reading this study it hit me how Paul was in PRISON and he wouldn’t let that stop him from encouraging others, yet I’m dealing with comparatively small stresses and shutting down.
My prayer tonight is that I would truly cast my cares on God and reach out for His glory!
Crystal-I am new to SRT but already feel a connection. I too thought I was dealing with my stresses even though anxieties sometimes take over. I think one important point I am taking from this lesson is "I" am trying to deal not God. Ouch… Anxieties are chains, my chains. I need to give them to God. I need to encourage others not with just words but through my example. Christ "living" in me.
To lovely Kim,
I know what you mean! Something I found really changes my reading of the Word is before I start I draw near to God so He will draw near to me as I read His Word. I keep my focus on Him and what He is saying. I close my eyes and I focus on Him, where is He, far away, close, behind, beside me and I ask Him to speak to me. Kim know that His word does not return empty and He sees your heart and your desire for Him and His Word keep pressing on and into Him and His Word will be so richly in you.
Be blessed love your sister
Melissa
Thanks Melissa. I will try this going forward :)
~Kim
Oh so filled with joy to be apart of this amazing group of women in love with the word oh God. I await every morning for my email and to read His word and be apart of a conversation about it. I am filled with joy rather than isolation as I read. I am living in a foreign land serving Him away from family and friends and doing this is just like doing bible study with friends. I make a cuppa and sit and be refreshed and filled anew. Thank you my sisters as we encourage each other all around the globe….. Love
Hello Again Ladies,
I would like to know how to better connect with the Word. When I read the Bible I sometimes get frustrated because it feels as if I'm just reading words. I really want to feel the connection that others feel when they read the Word. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate the feedback.
Thanks,
Try praying before you read your bible. Pray for answers to your questions or to help with something you are going through. For me personally, my heart is aching with a worry and I need God. His word helps comfort me. That comfort means everything to me and I’ve never found anything more reassuring than God. When Jesus says he will provide rest for my soul I believe him. I guess what I am saying is create a relationship with him.
Hope that helps. :) happy reading !
I’m grateful to God for allowing me to find this website. I’m excited to be apart of a group of bible believing women who are eager to devour the word of God!
This is my first day starting #shereadstruth! Really excited about the journey ahead, digging into the Word, and being a part of this community! Thanks for putting this together ladies!
Hello all, I am new to SheReadsTruth! I have issues! I need to be restored and what better way than through the Word of God and as it is presented at SRT. I am believing in the cleansing Word of God to transform my heart and the way I respond to life – all its challenges, complexities and joys. My focus is to be whole in Christ and to live my life without fear but in the God-kind-of-faith. I am already blessed and inspired by the posts I've read here.
Chapters 1-11 made me think, "how about encouraging someone else and get the lens off of you! So, I plan to act on writing a letter/card to a few persons to just encourage them as Paul encouraged the Philippians while in prison. Hmm…God is awesome indeed!
Many rich blessings!
Hello Everyone! My name is Kim and I have just joined the Philippians reading plan. I am so happy to have found this community. I am currently without a home church and haven't been to church in over a year. I desire to learn the Bible and develop a better relationship with God.
I really appreciated the intro to today's reading because it made me more aware of Paul's purpose in writing to the Philippians.
I am going to send an encouraging email to a good friend of mine who is dealing with some issues at her job. I also plan to reread today's scripture when I get home – it can be hard to focus in an office setting.
Is it not wonderful that in lifting others up we are so to lifted! Amen!!!
Yes! Yes! Yes! When I am pouring out to others, He is filling me back up!
Today, I am going to let Love pour out of me, I am going to set my chains aside and I am going to let God use me in ways that I can't even begin to imagine, I am SO excited for this study, Philippians is one of my favorite books!
I’m so glad I started this today. I’m looking forward to being a part of this community going forward. Today’s reading hit the mark(no surprise) as our family is going through a very difficult time with our 11yr od son with anxiety. We have received many heartfelt words of encouragement from fellow believers. All of which have been right on the mark in what we need to hear. As I have acknowledged God’s provisions during our struggles I have still felt like I’ve been playing the victim. Point is that just like Paul, I need to focus on rejoicing in the struggle and the rest will come.
Paula, I am lifting your son up in prayer! My grandson (12yrs) is going through anxiety, also. He has missed school and is always feeling is sick. My daughter and I have prayed and she is taking him to a Christian counselor. One thing we have found helps is when we had a talk to him about Jesus and Satan. We told him that Satan is just wanting him to have anxiety to keep him from looking at Jesus. It has calmed him and we are starting to see more smiles on his face!
I am praying God gives you the right words to say!
I so Love this verse Paul even though he is in Prison and facing death he still has the confidence to preac.H
What I loved most is his heart for people I just pray that God will give me such a heart of Gold.
This was so nice to read this morning. So many little things sometimes hinder my prayer… a cold, business, emotions, etc. But I need to get all that in check and realize that Paul was in far worse circumstances, and yet he prayed with such JOY!
So happy for this study!
Putting our chains aside allows us to see others sufferings and need for encouragement, but most importantly their need for "growing in understanding and knowledge", the best encouragement we can give someone is His word, His truth, the good news!
And what happened to me this weekend is perfect example, I went to the Race for the Cure event here and had to pick up my package at location, there were 20K people participating and the line was pretty extensive and very slow moving, as I started to get a little impatient, I started a conversation with the lady behind me who proceeded to share with me that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and was getting a mastectomy on Monday (today). WOW! Really? Here I am thinking about my "waiting time" and this beautiful lady is here 2 days before surgery on the walk of her "life"… Thank you God for moments like this as I was able to talk to her a little about His love and His grace, got her email, prayed for her and will now be able to spread the Gospel with someone that is in so much need of it.
God's ways are just perfect! Please join me in praying for Isa's health. XO
I love this book!!! It’s my favorite. :D I’m so excited to read it with everyone!
I love verses 9-11, and for me, I’ve written this down replacing “your” and “you” with “my” and “I”. It’s a prayer I have for myself to coninue to learn to love others and grow in that love :) and to also grow in my knowledge of God. ;)
I found this website last week by accident but was so excited to find it. So I am a newbie to this kind of format. (I have done the video/book formats.) Looking forward to diving into Philippians.
I have been in a cancer battle for almost two years, I had surgery followed by radiation. I had a long recovery and now that I am getting stronger and coming back, I find myself looking for "what's next". I believe that what I have gone through will be for God's good. So verse 6 really spoke to me. I may not see or know how my life has touched someone, but know that the good work will be completed in God's time.
I also focused in on the comment about encouraging those around me. I have been encouraged by so many people, I need to start paying it forward. I pray that I can be an encouragement to at least one person each day.
Thank you,
LaVonne
Yup! I think we ought to stop worrying about own stuff, and focus the energy on helping people. This way will not only bring our mind off the troubled matters we are suffering, it will also makes us more positive and our troubled stuff will not seem so tough. Furthermore, with a positive mind, we will be able to shine like Jesus! All Glory to God. Thanks for the wonderful encouragement!
Good Morning All! I am really excited to be involved in this blog/bible study. I was looking for something that would help me get into my Bible more and a forum to discuss it. This is truly amazing to me.
I really started getting immersed in it at v7 as Peter discussed being in his chains. I began to think about what my chains are; basically, the things that are keeping me in mental and spiritual bondage. I took it a step further because not only do I need to put my chains aside, but I need to break through them. Ultimately, pray for healing and breakthrough in certain areas of my life. In order for me to be there totally and completely for those that I love, this is going is going to be necessary.
At v9: "And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight" (NIV). I had to look up the word 'abound'. For me it means to occur or exist in great quantities, ultimately to be rich. As I gain more knowledge of Jesus and more insight into Him, my love will be rich. This is the type of richness I desire to have. As a person who often feels that I want more and more, Jesus spoke to me as I read this saying that I am already rich in areas that this world cannot give to me or take away.
This passage truly blessed me and I look forward to reading tomorrow.
I love that we are encouraged to think of others, and how to lift them up instead being chained down by what bothers us. It's something that I've had to work very hard at when I'm at work. My violin students still deserve my very best as their teacher. They deserve to have a fun creative environment that encourages them, and helps them learn. None of those words describe the environment in the building where my studio is. Despite the way my employers make me feel, and the fact that I want to run away as soon as I get to work my students don't deserve to get caught up in all of that. Today's reading was a great reminder of that.
Welcome new and already friends! Excited to hear how Christ is working in your lives, to me that is one of the biggest encouragements there is. In sharing our testimonies I believe we do love each other and lift each other up, knowing I am not the only person thinking or wondering the same questions.
I'm excited that I am setting aside time to allow God to come into my life and minister to me through you. Thank you for doing this and taking the time to help us focus on what is important.
This is my 2nd reading plan and it has really brought me to God. I grew up going to church every Sunday. But honestly it wasn’t until recently I could honestly call myself a Christian! Wow what a huge difference it really is!!!
It all started when I started searching the bible for comfort. I don’t know if anyone has ever had any anxiety problems in their life but man what I suffering. It was hard to do anything. First verse I read was Matthew
11:28-30. Right then and there I felt that Jesus was the rest I desperately needs! Any ways I’m going off on a rant here sorry. But what I getting at is the “chains” that Paul talks about in this reading I feel like are my anxiety, my fear, my emotional pain and my guilt that has kept me bondage for so long. And Jesus has truly freed me! I know Paul was actually in jail but I think even if we aren’t behind bars some of us are in some kind of prison. I honestly believe wherever we are on life God wants us to feel the joy!
Thank you so much for sharing your testimony. It really caught my eye and heart. Like you, the part about Paul being in chains while he is praying with JOY!!! We all do have some sort of chain as you said, but God wants us to feel his joy :)
Good morning, ladies!
I have been sporadically following She Reads Truth since this past summer but somehow always started the reading plans several days after everyone else had. I am so encouraged and excited to have stumbled upon this one on the official Day One!
My question to you based on the intro: How do we balance “putting aside our own chains to lift up and love others” with taking care of ourselves/our needs?
Laurin, my daughter and I were just talking about this same question! I think when we are totally given over to Christ and think of others before ourselves God meets our needs! It is the most amazing kind of love! When I am out there ministering to others (pouring out myself) God has someone (or He does it) filling me up! It is very self-less–not something we as humans understand without the Holy Spirit showing us the way! I look to Jesus as the #1 example–when He was on earth He did not worry about where to stay or what to eat–someone was always there to provide that for him! He always put others first and he was always taken care of!
Hi Laurin,
Sometimes when we can identify someone who needs encouragement, light, love, and a nice or friendly voice that brings a smile to their face and we actually give that to the individual, then at that moment, we have put aside our chains; we just have to know and trust that God will take care of our needs. Just as He sent us to someone, He will send someone to us. I hope this helps. ; )
I'm looking forward to growing further in His Word in this study with all of you lovely ladies, I want to soak in the pure joy that Paul feels day-in, day-out, even when in chains!
I long to pass on the joy of Christianity to others over the next few weeks, that I can learn to not only love and encourage, but to do it WELL.
Welcome, Debi!
This format is fun! I think of it as a way to re-purpose my devices that typically distract me from spending time with the LORD. Making my ipad first and foremost my means of spending time in the word. Or my phone for taking photos of my time in the Word rather than just scrolling through instagram and facebook mindlessly.THEN it can be used for other things…like catching up on The Office and mindless facebook time. LOL.
So glad you are here!
Hi girls!
I love starting out new books and working through them all the way with everyone. Reading all the insights is super encouraging! You always bring out things I didn't quite see, myself. :)
Just as always, God knows what to have me read to convict my heart. Yesterday I was a pretty selfish person. It was kinda ugly and not at all a bright light shining for God's glory. I want to learn to have my heart be soft and moldable. Not just having "usually encouraging" days but having them be my lifestyle, like Paul. I want to speak truth of the Bible regularly, not being afraid to step up there and give someone a hand and bring a smile to their day.
Now, to find 'encouragment victims.' I need to put this into practice like never before. ;)
I am so excited to be joining you ladies too! This is such a neat way to find fellowship and encouragement from the Lord ALL. Day. Long! I love and cling to the part where he says God will complete the work he began in us. I trust this promise for hope in salvation as well as hope that he will complete the little things he has set in place for me to do. I think about this all the time when I don’t see immediately the fruits of my labor, like sharing the gospel with a friend who doesn’t know Christ and waiting waiting waiting for the Holy Spirit to open their eyes. sometimes i feel like i must have failed, or didn’t say the right thing but he promises to complete the work, even if I never get to see it. i find a lot of rest and hope in that!
Morning,
This is my first time hearing about the group and joining the daily bible reading. I think this is great for me since I don't always make the time to read God's word on a daily basis. I desire to apply all of God's word to my life and grow in his grace.
Hey Sandra! Welcome to the SRT community! So glad you're here!
This is my first time following a She Reads Truth study. It is such an encouragement this morning to read this passage. I think that there is an ongoing daily struggle because we are so bound by chains to the things of this world. This passage is clearly telling us that there is something within us that is of God and that we can nurture it and cause it to grow within us. We will grow in knowledge, wisdom and understanding that comes from Him. While He is not promising us an easy road, He is promising us rich blessings that will come out of the overflow of this work that we have cared for. When we fix our lives on what is truly important {Him}, it brings honor and glory to Him and we will be richly blessed in doing so. So the question for me today is what am I fixing myself on and does it glorify Him?
Hi Sarah! :) So happy to see you here!!! It will be great to go through this with you too. :) Praying for you and your family today!
Thank you so much! I appreciate it!
For starters, Hello Ladies! I’m glad to be joining in on this study. This is my first time participating in a ladies Bible Study in this type of format and I’ve already been blessed by your insights. I got here via my web browser on my phone- YouVersion app is locked up. I’ll be checking for updates shortly, but list me among those having problems. Technology is wonderful, but imperfect. Yet how wonderful that we can come together today from all over the world and hide Gods’s word in our hearts!
I’ve been blessed by you ladies all ready- thank you! Great introduction, looking forward to tomorrow.
I love the opening to this letter. I am the youth leader at my church (volunteer) and as I read this morning, I felt myself wanting to pray this for my youth group. Whatt a beautiful prayer for our students and young adults.
When I started reading the introduction I was in a bit shock. I had forgotten that Paul was in prison. I see that while he was in prison he had such joy and thanksgiving that he wanted to encourage the other believers. He really put his "chains aside" which is a wonderful example of Christ in him. An example that I believe God wants us to be when it comes to our trials. That we must not become selfish and worry about ourselves. I have decided to grab an enevelope and write an encouraging letter to a friend that is in college in another state. I am truly blessed to be able to do a study with other women and being able to share what we learn and how we can encourage each other. May the Lord continue to guide us in his truth. Also, Philippians 1:9-11 is amazing! Paul encouraged them to overflow in love more and more. Also talked about their character and that it should glorify Christ. It reminds me that even if we have trials that God may use us to remind them other people to stay strong and continue to have joy. Specificly joy of the Lord. God bless you all :)
Good morning friends!
I started SheReadsTruth months ago when it began, then fell off the wagon – now I am starting back up with yall to read Philippians!
I find it so much easier to get in the Word when I can discuss it with other women, and also hear how OTHERS are applying these precious words.
Excited to be here :)
Hi Emily!
It's great to be in this community..I look forward to this time every morning. Welcome back!
Welcome back, girl!
Thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. This is my first time linking up with She Reads Truth.
It’s been a long difficult season for me of waiting and trusting the Lord. In the midst of my hardship, it’s easy to feel abandoned by the Lord, even forgotten. I was reminded today of something I desperately needed to be reminded of. “He who began a good work in me will perfect it until the day of Christ.” He really is faithful to work in me, change my attitude, perspective, self-centered-ness. He doesn’t get tired of His work in me, or give up when I screw up. He doesn’t freak out when I doubt His plan or struggle to trust. My present hardship is more than about right now. The work he’s doing is much, much bigger. It’s not just about me now. I was reminded to the big-picture, long-term, kingdom perspective Paul had. I feel so encouraged. Thank you so much!
Julie-
Welcome to the SRT community! A community FULL of women that He is working in. To change our attitudes, perspective, self-centered-ness, etc. :) To make us look more like His Son.
Reading your comment made me think of something a friend said to me once: "The pain preceeds the promise." That verse often makes me think of that phrase…thanks for the reminder and the encouragement!
So glad you are here!
Such hope in that one verse…and your insights of God's faithfulness to us, regardless of our responses is great encouragement!
Amen, you took the words right out of my mouth. Ph. 1-6 is a very important verse to me, every time I fail it seems hopeless, but that verse reminds me that Christ will prevail in me.
Julie,
I have felt the exact same way. But now I have my focus back on God and His great love for me! I know He will not leave me or forsake me and that helps me to get through each day!
Cathy
The devotional for today within YouVersion appears to be a combination of the Ephesians and Philippians day 1 intro. The link to today’s devotional is not working in YouVersion either. Just wanted to let you all know.
Thank you so much for putting these studies together! I am enjoying each study and look forward to learning more during our time in Philippians.
I see that too, Von! Working on it with YouVersion now – thanks for the heads up!
That happened to me, too! I went into the plan settings, stopped the plan, closed youversion and then started the plan again and it was fine. Hope it works for you, too!
Steph,
Research for Phillipians and start that plan :) I started the other day and was confused then researched for that plan, as skipping ahead won’t get you to it, you must start the new plan.
I am having trouble finding today’s reading in the plan on Youversion. I just signed up the other day, so it has me in Ephesians, and I can’t seem to skip forward. Ideas?
Hey Stef,
Try just following this link. You can be following more than one plan in YouVersion at a time, so it should be no problem for you to also begin Philippians. Let me know if this doesn't work.

You can also search She Reads Truth under the plans and it is the third one listed.
Hey Stef! Were you able to find the new plan?
Never knew an introduction could be so good! I love verses 9 & 10. After looking up some of the words in the dictionary I came up with this paraphrase that speaks volumes to me! "This is my prayer: your love may abound (rise in waves) more and more in knowledge & depth (intermost part) of insight (the ability to see & understand clearly the inner nature of things), so you may be able to discern (recognize clearly ) what is best & may be pure (genuine) and blameless until the day Christ comes back."
I love the fact our love should abound–to rise in waves! It says to me when I am going through hard times I need to pray for enough love to cover the situation! I need to constantly be in touch with God and be praying for His love to get me through. When I do, His love rises up and covers that time–next time I pray again and He covers again! Also, I need to pray for understanding because when I do God gives me insight and I can recognize clearly what is going on!
I continue to THANK God for the insight He gives through reading scripture!
thank you for this! it's amazing how much MORE we can get out of the beautiful Word if we look further into the words written and their full meaning and potential. (:
Stephanie, I love your insight! I love it when He talks about covering us or lavishing us with his love!!!
Do you ever reference the Amplified bible? It is so great, it does something similar to what you did with your paraphrase. Breaking down parts of the scripture and making it more a little easier to identify.
Nicole, thank you! I have every version but the Amplified! I want it but I get my Bibles from goodwills and not found one there yet–one from a book store is $85. not something I can afford–am praying one shows up there! :)
You sound like me! I am a bit if a bible hoarder! I will pray an amplified bible makes it way to you.
I love the word picture of love abounding…"rise in waves" as that is exactly what it is like.
i feel really grateful for your explanation, i am just starting getting back into the bible after many years of being lost. i know God guided me right here:)
I love your insight into those verses. I am going to take it with me today! I just started this plan today and already know I going to be blessed. Thanks for sharing!
I want to say how much I love this community that is here brought together through this website. It seems that the authors of She Reads Truth are very much like Paul – writing to encourage and give hope to all of us the readers and subscribers to She Reads Truth.
What spoke to me in this small, but mighty, section was Pauls abundant love and tender compassion for the Philippians. I was also struck by his urgings for the Philippians to continue to grow through knowledge and discernment because that is often what I need a great deal of – discernment.
I love that Paul was praising God and accepting his chains (and thorn in his side later in life) with joy. This is something I need to be working on constantly – accepting my situation with joy and humble heart. To be still and focus on Christ and not what I'll say next or what have you.
Peace to you ladies as you go about your day,
emilysophia.
