I will have to hold onto 1 Thessalonians 5:2 when all my friends want to go see Magic Mike on my birthday. Cultural toxins are some of the hardest things I battle with daily!
This is my first day that I'm taking part in alongside all of you, after catching up and its even more encouraging to be doing the lesson whilst everyone is busy reading His word and writing their thoughts down.
"TEST EVERYTHING, hold fast to what is good" {1Thessalonians 5:21}
This verse really spoke to me, I think we all sometimes do things that cause a little niggling thought in the back of our mind that whispers "this isn't right…too far." For instance, drinking that one too many glass of wine or when you're browsing in a bookshop, going back and forth over whether you should read 50 Shades of Grey because your friends are and all your colleagues are.
I've found that usually if I think it's a bad idea, it most likely is. It's keeping you from the Lord, it's polluting your being. My mantra for the week is to steer away from temptation, CLING to what is good, and by golly hold TIGHT.
{When I first sat down to take part in Day 1 of this study, I had NO idea how much having a community to encourage me along the way would affect how I relate to the study. I was shy and weary of who I could speak to about his Truth, I started out not having anyone close that I can share my Faith with and now – a mere week later – I've made some truly wonderful friends!
I'm really hoping we'll continue to take part in studies together when #SoulDetox comes to an end!}
Today when it asked the question "Why do you think it's so difficult to filter out cultural toxins in today's society?" I knew my answer was "Fear." I'm glad that last week it talked about fear, so it could prepare my heart for this. Read more about what I learned here: http://therighteousnessproject.ca/post/2488517486…

I am trying to throw out these evil-tainted thoughts that I have been trying to justify for years. I am being ripped of the ugly so Jesus can shine.
